Wu Tang - the ultimate bandwagon

Pretty much every stereotypical skier you see now in days has a wu-tang sticker on their helmet, but in all honesty, who the heck actually listens to wu tang? they kinda suck and i doubt many people rockin the wu tang stickers actually like the group. Anyone else think this is complete bandwagon?

1998, me, crew, dimebag, dutchy, '93 jeep. Enter the 36 and Forever on repeat on the disc changer. Enter Bobby Digital. doodoodoodoodoodoo. Shit was turnt up. End Scene.

Do I have wu stickers? No. But, I did have one or two pieces of wu wear clothing in high school and I did/do like Clark's wallabies. Have they become a trendy group to name drop? Absolutely, but there are a lot of people who love WC.

Wu for me was a gateway drug to hip hop slightly left of center. Kung fu, sci fi, bizarre biblical references, no one was doing that shit. The whole back pack, conscious rap scene is in debt to Wu.
 
Yeah I'm pretty sure most of the people on here wouldn't have even heard of Wu if it wasn't "newschoolers approved".

The first time I listened to them I could kinda take it or leave it, but came back to them in the past year or so and I can honestly say inspectah deck's verse in Triumph is one of my favourite pieces in hip hop. I'm more of a Method Man fan though, personally think Tical trumps most of Wu Tang's other material
 
21 yo now, been bumping wu-tang for myself since 7th grade (2003?) I started listening to them regardless of skiing. People love the Wu cause they spit the realness like most other successful artists, also i dont really know any skiers or people that rep the wu W that dont actually genuinely enjoy their music, this thread is stupid
 
I'd prefer that the skiing community has a boner for Wu and not Drake or Chris Brown or some other shit that's actually horrible. Are there better hip-hop artists out there? definitely. better groups? maybe. But Wu-Tang and it's individual members are still pretty damn good.

That said, B and E could use a little less Meth and Red dick-riding.
 
Can't stand when I see people with Wu Tang stickers and I ask "What's your favorite song?" 90% of people say "Creams sick man, cash rules everything around me". I cry a little.
 
I hate the bandwagon of people who constantly bitch about what other people wear when they ski.Shut the fuck up OP. It's one thing to have a dislike for people who wear certain things, but making a hate thread about people wearing wu stickers on their helmets is just a cry for attention. Eat shit.

How many people wearing Sarah Burke stickers do you think actually knew Sarah?
 
I like Wu-Tang, and I've done that since I was like 12-13. That was in the racing days, before I got into freeskiing. And I actually don't have a W-sticker on my helmet, or anywhere else for that matter.

But if I ever get into the FWT, I'll most def rock a yellow W on the dome piece. That'd be dope.

He changed the way people processed drums, and the overall rawness of his production on 36, Liquid Swords, 1st albums by Rae and Ghotst is unreal. When he started OD'ing on the cheesy midi keyboard beats and getting a little carried away, yeah, a lot of those beats were horrible. His sampling in the early days was always heavyweight.

Shit, the Ghost Dog score alone is legendary. You're hating, sir. He's got too many classics to count. Super simple beat, an instrumental from the movie and it fits perfectly

Primo, Pete Rock, Dilla, Dre, Hi-tek, Kanye, El-P, Alchemist, Doom, Quik, 9th, RJD2, and a handful of others, but any best producer list has to have RZA on it.

What don't you like about his best production work, and I'd love to hear who you thought was making better records in 93-94.

 
i could not agree more with this thread. SO MANY PEOPLE ARE ON THE BANDWAGON AND THEY KNOW 1-2 SONGS. I love wutang. i dont even listen to most of their group songs. I enjoy their individual albums more. I think most people are on the wu bandwagon because it makes them look "thug" with a sticker on their helmet. in other words they do it for looks.
 
And to add to this thread, anybody who says that Wu-Tang is indebted to hip hop and that there was never a group like them, do a lot more research. You will find that the Wu-Tang was completely based off of EPMD's Hit Squad, and when they fell apart was the only time that Wu-Tang could come out into the mainstream. Hell, believe it or not, Erick Sermon of EPMD was offered the position that RZA is in. It is all here, in this interview:

Iron Flag and Wu-Massacre are where it's at, i like the older stuff but like a fine cheese, the Wu just gets better with time.

I actually enjoy wu-tang, most of their songs relax me and I can just chill or ski to them
 
I'm not saying they aren't very talented, and if you like them, power to you, but I'm saying if the Hit Squad would've survived all the internal conflict, the Wu-Tang would definately not hold as much weight as they do/did.
 
this thread is crap i saw the wu last christmas and they came 8 deep and put on a show. anybody who's going that hard 20 years later is good no matter what dick riding goes on.
 
I will agree that there is some bandwagon effect with Wu-Tang...... BUT there is a lot to be learned and taken in by Wu-Tang, and it goes much deeper than most kids rocking the sticker realize.

I took a African American Studies class my senior year at UConn specificially devoted to the Wu-Tang Clan and their Social, Political, and Cultural Impact. I'm not going to get super specific about it unless people want me to. But I will say if anyone goes to UConn DEFINITELY try to get into this class with Dr Aggison. And no we did not just listen to rap all day every day, I probably learned more in that class than in any other class I took in college.

honestly pretty much all i listen to is wu and 213. but no i dont have a wu sticker. and ur right, go to a mountain and 95% kids have those stickers and probably 30% actually listen to wu
 
There's just no comparison.

Without Wu, there wouldn't have been jedi mind. Listen to Violent By Design. Then listen to Enter or Forever. There's a lot of similarities there that run beyond the merely superficial.

And, that's not a knock, I love Jedi Mind, grew up in a Phily suburb, seen them several times, I ride for the home team, but man......Wu-Tang is legendary. Above and beyond whatever bandwagoning is taking place (after all, squares always try and fake the funk), Wu has a place amongst the greats forever.

And, what's with everyone saying Wu is super thug? As far as mainstream rap goes, they're pretty out there in terms of content. Really only Rae and Ghost are waving the coke boy flag, otherwise anyone else is as likely to rap about greek gods, and parallel dimensions, and kung fu. I just don't understand why there's that association with Wu when pretty much every single mainstream rapper is more in step with all that shit.

I mean.....I've never....NEVER met a black Wu-Tang fan.
