Wth is the controversy with Dope Snow?

Why is there so much hate for dope snow?? Isn't it just an average ski brand startup that's done well?

I didn't know a brand created in 2008 by a conglomerate which specializes in creating soulless ski oriented clothing brands purely to make money was considered "startup"

because you look like a npc, people who wear that look like a fortnite default skin default emotes they prolly hit a shifty or safety the whole way down the mountain.

And they don't really give back to the community, they just advertise.Taking steepsteepon all these trips is just an advertisement

Here’s the real answer: it’s basically a company that uses cheap materials and drop ships from China. It has seen huge explosion, mostly from casual skiers who think it is the greatest.

Dope snow jacket, cringe black balaclava, soulless skateboardish helmet, disgusting factions mounted with squire, cringe yeehaw shouts from the lift, retard drops in melted south faces with no bag, comments every steepsteep video

people dislike it for a variety of reasons but for the most part its because the name is dumb and the cloths are ugly but also they primarily promote the brand through social media and and short form low effort content as opposed to companies people like which run events in the community, sponsor people because they are good at skiing not because of there social media statistics and release long form video parts.

Makes sense. And Finally, a reply that isn't telling me to delete my acc lmao.

Ok I'll bite.

- First off, a lot of people don't like the name. (dope industries is better anywayhttps://www.dopedealerdistribution.com/)

-Many people prefer brands that have more of a history in skiing/snowboarding. For example, Saga also had bright colourways but has been involved in a lot of well-liked projects over the years.

- The quality is reflected by the price. Dope jackets are never gonna be the same quality as a Patagonia jackets, which admittedly are more expensive, but they are an investment since they can last for years and are worth repairing. This leads me to my next point.

- Dope pumps out loads of different styles in the way that many fast fashion companies do. Imagine you're a ski influencer. This would be the perfect brand for you since the jackets are relatively inexpensive so you can buy at least one jacket per season while using the bright colours to stand out on people's feeds. Some people would rather not invest $700/800 on a patagonia/arcteryx jacket when they can buy multiple jackets for the same price. The reasons for concern that many people have regarding waste should be apparent.

- This is very much a social media brand. What I mean by that is that Dope and its influences/ambassadors have a large presence on instagram while it is quite rare to see people wearing dope in actual videos. Yes they have some bigger names (Jesper, who I actually like) riding for them but if you look at most people who ride them, they probably have a very different perspective on skiing than you do. That's ok, but it's important to understand that many people, such as myself, want to buy stuff from brands whose perspective of skiing is more aligned with their own. A lot of people resent the way that skiing has largely been represented in social media, especially in the last few years. If you feel that way, you're not gonna buy dope snow.

- If you go to their website and look at one of the jackets, there's not a lot of information about the materials they use. Maybe it's available somewhere, but I'm not very impressed with their lack of transparency

- Some of their reviews are also very suspicious. A lot of reviews posted at the same time that sound like they were written by bots

God I can't believe I typed all that out. I definitely missed some points but I hope this clears things up for any people who don't understand where people are coming from

this. They successfully cut into the cheddar bisq of many long established and higher quality outwear companies through short form content and a mainstream social media ads that they were able to run at a loss because of their conglomerate backing.

Once there were signs that they were gonna be profitable, they twisted the knife to sponsor insane skiers and snowboarders (to appear core) while also forcing the industry into short form social media content to stay relevant to compete with them.

All while allowing Ashish to perpetuate this myth that their "hand picked" fabrics will hold up when it's snowing 2 inches an hour with some rain on a cold rainy night in Stoke.

Ultimately, they are cannibalizing the ski and snowboard industry and make companies that make high quality gear irrelevant while having Montec and Dope be the brand you see everywhere while not supporting what actually makes skiing and snowboarding what it is - people sending it at your local midwest dumpster fire hill to the backcountry in the wasatch.

I watched succession last night so take my opinion for what it's worth.

To be fair, while companies like patagonia and arcteryx use better materials, they do the same shit. Their jackets are made in Vietnam and other southeast Asian countries where workers have limited rights and barely get paid shit. Not exactly dropshipping, but the gear is absolutely not getting manufactured in the US.

From Supply chain managment review:

"Today, Patagonia manufactures outdoor apparel by working with 45 suppliers andfactories. It sources from 14 countries including Vietnam, Thailand, China, Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh. The brand runs a complex supply chain."

All their stuff appears to be outsourced. I'm using patagonia as an example because they have a good reputation, especially in regard to environmental concerns.

Some of their gear is apparently made in the US.

"we work with factories in the United States as often as we can: In Los Angeles, we continue to work with a variety of suppliers, while at the same time we have long-term factory relationships in Texas and North Carolina."

Patagonia is american fraud, atleast thats what all the people in europe say. They advertise european brands a lot though. I'm talking not only skiing, but mountaineering aswell. You might have heard about the torrentshell 3L. Yeah, it sucks. Not breathable at all, feels like a coat. And the sizing only works for ppl with like 30% bodyfat. So many better jackets that just arent marketed enough, but the real mountaineers know them. Same thing with Dopesnow. I would say in europe atleast Patagonia is like the dopesnow of mountaineering.

Now about patagonia's ,,enviormental concerns". Man, talk to some real mountaineers - european ones. Read a bit about patagonia from a non-biased source. There is a reason patagonia is only popular in the USA and not anywhere else. They have amazing marketing, not gonna lie, but their customers are all either noobies who just read off the internet and dont talk with pros or the americans who pack 3 jackets, every single one for 600 dollars, just to trek the same shit an average good mountaineer can do with a fucking poncho.

Because kids here prefer to buy from (((CORE))) made in Asia companies rather than (((NOT CORE))) made in Asia companies.

It's just a trend thing. If dope snow did a limited drop with Photoshop copy-and-paste prints and one trust fund kid from slc that skis urban the kids would eat it up.

I mean, I hate dopesnow but...

I mean, yes? If a company makes stuff that looks cool and they sponsor street skiers I’m much more likely to support them, I don’t think that’s a bad thing
