Ok, so i did category search for punk on limewire just to see what would come up. ASHLEE FUCKING SIMPSON is one of the artists that came up. WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?! true punk music needs a new name because the word "punk" has been contaminated to the point of no return.

So yea, im trying to thing of a new name for real punk music to separate it from the shit thats being associated with it today.

OOPS POW SURPRISE! OOOOOHHHHH!!!

i read an article about the possibility of cbgb's closing. what a sad sad day. i fucking hate it when i see people wearing that shirt that they got from hot topic. don't even get me started on that store...

^you know what's even worse? It's probable that CBGBs doesn't get ANY revenue from those shirts.

Bahahaha... or, you could call it the 'elitist snob' cult. Anyways, my family already owns a country club, so no thanks.

no, in the article it said they made about $2 million from merchandising. still, most of the people that wear those shirts have no idea what it is.

it's funny how a country music hall all of a sudden because punk and everyone worships it...

My weiner is probably harder than yours.

go to local punk shows. and dont deal with all the shit like ashlee wearing "punk" t shirts along with the rich bitches at school with bright green and pink ramone shirts that they got from abercrombie. they never listened to them in their lives. f u c k them. punk is alive. just know where to look. and dont give into the hot topic. if you want to represent, buy online. or dont wear their names at all, because in seeing you, chances are another, wanting to be cool, will just go, not listen to the peticular band your representing, and buy a shirt too.

i used to get down about this, but think of all the teenagers, with their first guitars they got from a yard sale, in their rooms, playing "blitzkreig bop" with the amps as loud as they can go and not caring when mom tells them to turn it down. it wont die. just fuck the new "punk" from bands like simple plan and think of that as pop. look harder. if you cant find it, break out the turntable and buy a copy of "London Calling" on vynil.

rap is worse. no one has died in awhile besides the rap itself. no major rap artists. there are 12 year old girls, taking down their nsync posters and putting up the 50 cent poster that they ripped out of their J-14 or tiger beat magazines. rap was the streets. people got shot over NWA. it was all about hard to hear lyrics, mixed by the best dj's out there, shady contracts and production, and lyrics alive with power and how THEY felt. not what their manager think would be successful. "FUCK THE POLICE". it isnt even heard anymore. now its "girl you be shakin that ass". public enemy and nwa talked of killings. run dmc was all about feeling good. now its all about making money and appealing. such as allowing 50 cent and the game oull out posters in kids magazines. RAP IS NOW POP. POPULAR MUSIC.

i recently had an experince with this. in a car on the way to this school thing, a 13 year old girl in this car, who was wearing aberocrombie shit and had never missed a meal in her life, went APESHIT when 50 cents "disco inferno" came on the radio. she knew every word. "shake shake that ass girl" she probably has never had a boyfriend.

punk is in deep, as i said before. car commercials and tv shows are all ramones. "what i like about you" and "blitzkreig bop". the only lyrics that count are "hey ho lets go" or anything that will help sell cars. the spirit is gone. the money has won. iggy pop is selling carnival cruise lines. people got stabbed to those songs. think 1977, underground new york, in a club, getting stabbed in a mosh, going home to your friends basement instead of the hospital because you dont have the cash. having that friend sew you up with some string he found and pouring vodka on the wound for sterilization. then the next night going back to that club because the sex pistols are doing an encore show. that was punk. that is dead.

but you arent. and others are like you. and you keep with the old shit and dont get phased by the new (and punching one of those good charlotte loving shits once in awhile when he decides to show up at one of the local punk shows).

pretty sick

I fucking agree. punk is dead. not the music, but the word. i am starting a clothing company for skiers and boarders, but it is musically influenced. its called Anthem. I want clothes that you can wear to a concert and not feel like a poser. that is my goal. I got the name because everyone, and everything has an anthem, some song that makes you feel stoked, that makes you feel alive, and true to your thing. I just hate the posers.

Buy Anthem Clothes!! ask me how.

I totally agree with Skogenjake on the punk idea. Go to shows at you local community center and pretend that the commercial shit isn't happening. Go buy London Calling and Nevermind the Bollocks and self-titled Clash album and fuck what everyone thinks. Goddamn it I wish I would have lived in Britain in 1977-79 instead of New Hampshire in 2005.

no major rap artists? jay z, whether his stuff gets a ton of radio aritime or not, is a lyrical genious. so is talib kweli. his stuff is not about girls shaking thier ass, he has songs about how the birth of his children has changed his life, and how 9/11 affected the world in a positive way. and then there's the roots, who instead of using a generic background beat like any one hit wonder rapper, play all their own music, and do a very good job of it. and they've been around for over 10 years.

you missed the focus of what i said. its that the edge of it has worn off. its about money. he came out of retirement to release. that is about money. he has his own shoes. alot of rappers have their own shoes and energy drinks. rap wasnt about that. now its a big part of it. people should listen to what makes them happy. its what music is about. so listeners of jay z are in no way wrong. the post was about how the essnce of the rap music the came out of those basements in hollis, queens, in the 80's isnt the same music out there today. rap is now rap-pop.

pretty sick

Congratulations on finding an exception. Still I dont think the 13 year old Abercrpmbie chick knows the hook to any of Talib's stuff. There will always be the true artists and then those in it for the money. The differece is that the true rebel spirit never fades. 50 Cent and Simple Plan lack emotion or dedication to their art. They will soon fade away as quickly as they exploded onto the scene

PROTECK YA NECK!

its pretty sad. i miss when punk ment something. i looked up to bands liek the clahs and sex pistols as i grew up. now its everywhere, so sad.

the clash, pistols, ramones arent that out there. most of those who say theyre into it actually arent. you just listen to it if you like it. thats what its about. dont let those fucks cheapen it. if they truely like it- cool. but the ramone t shirt girls that dont even like it, they just like it cause they think it would help them socially, well they arent doing shit for it. theyre going to get caught in their deciet and end up getting burned. the punk music, not the pop punk mentality embodied by that youth today, that music is what should make you happy. now people believe "punk" is a word deserving to fit anything related to a rebellion. it is a mentality. punk was the music. this is a something different with a skewed relationship to what came out of '77 CBGB's. it isnt wrong to like the music these pop punkers make either. music is about enjoyment. if a little goldfinger makes you happy, go with it. dont deny it and hate it. hate the so-called "punk mentality of the 2000's".

pretty sick

No offence to anybody but do people really know what Punk really is(or was)?

The truth is, Ashlee Simpson would pbly fit more into punk than most other artists would. The original Punk, Blondie and the Ramones, was meant to be only fun music. Music that was supposed to revive rock & roll from the pretentious rock. It was supposed to be superficial and meaningless eg "Blitzkrieg Bop"(until Sex Pistols changed it up with their boat tour on the Thames) Most bands even claimed that they were "really bad musicians".

Well, Ashlee Simpson is not a good musician, and a lot of people would find her music "fun", and everybody can agree its totally meaningless... Then again, she is not a male prostitute(which is what Punk really means), so yeah.

And I'll tell you one more thing: I faked every orgasm!

a club. alot of the punk bands of the late 70's played there, got started there. its famous. its punk music history.

pretty sick

your first mistake was searching for music based purely on genre...that doesn't work out - ever. if you actually want to find GOOD bands to listen to, listen to bands you already like, and find out who influences them and stuff like that, then you're golden

"true punk is an endangerd species" - on the cover of one of the lower class brats or unseen albums.

punks not dead, they just dont play it on the radio. go to local shows and support your local punk/ska/technoindiemathcore-whatever scene.

,',',',',',',',',',',',',',',',',', stickers dont stick after they've been stuck

PUNKS NOT DEAD!!!... just not very good anymore. haha. Oh well. punk used to be a bunch of society outcasts, now that it is becoming main stream, there are many punk bands trying to make a difference. Whether it be in politics (both left and right), or the environment, or whatever. A lot of punk bands didnt have such a large influece on people to take action in previous decades. (yes there still was influence, just in different ways, and not as mainstream.) Take the pros of the progression, and forget about all the crappy bands, just dont listen to them. so put in your favorite band's DIY album and go crazy with floorpunching and windmilling everything thing in sight.

what we have now isnt really bad for what it is. it is not punk really, but a new pop fast rock concotion that is different from the punk music that is "good". so punk it still good. the old stuff, the only stuff, that is good. this new stuff that calls itself punk, personally im not a huge fan.

Actually skogenjake, music history is my minor in university, and next time, dont just post "you're wrong" without backing your shit up.

If you want i can reference the papers i paraphrased ; James Wolcott, "Lou Reed Rising"(entitled The Rise of Punk Rock), Village Voice, March 1st 1976.

Robert Christgau, "A cult explodes" October 24th, 1977, Village Voice.

All of these articles and more can be found in this book "The Pop, Rock and Soul reader. History and Debates" By David Bracket, Oxford New York, copyright 2005. Standard reading for the new musicologist. In other words, FUCK OFF, I KNOW MORE THAN YOU.

And I'll tell you one more thing: I faked every orgasm!

most likely. and i got served. but yeah i have my own opinions. but i had someone say "great post" and you have no one.

im kidding your right. ive read a fair share of biographies and such, along with books about music study. but your in college and if studying what happened to punk is your job, then your theory or whatnot is most likely more valuable.

but mine was cooler.

pretty sick

what has happened is that there have been more and more bands coming into the scene making the scene multiple scenes. hardcore, ska-punk, street punk, pop-punk, emo of the early 90s, emo of the present day, emo core, blah, blah blah, you get the idea. a lot of kids from each scene hate each other and all try to say whos punk and whos not. others think scenesters are stupid. there are some who just like the music (which is what is about anyway right?)

oh my god yes. the locals bands, especially in Flint are great. the flint local 432 stage has great acts, but its like in the center of a bad part of flint and it not unlikely to get carjacked and stabbed. flint is a stabbing town. go onto purevolume.com and search for bands in michigan.

My brother keeps saying that emo is punk. Emo isn't punk its gay.

Stuff like punk rock and street punk is real punk, not Asley Simpson.

Responsability,what's that?

i have the never mind he bulloks, and london calling vynals (sp?) hanging in my room. thats punk. it wasnt really what your music sounded like, it was the lyrics. now all of a sudden any fast music is punk. i say to show your punk if you are. another thing. if we look back to when i was getting my grade 5 hepititis vaccinations a long time ago, they gave you a choice for whish bandaids you would like, a plain one and a powerrangers one. i chose powerrangers because evryone else was choosing the plain old one. i got beat up for it. now in days you get offered a powerrangers bandaind, its the shit. see mainstream now is sort of teh anti mainstream look. its hard to explain but ive thought long and hard about this. so fuck the antimainstream look, lets go back to 1998 and wear what the did back then. thats real "anti mainstream"

you make good points. its cool you have the vynils. so do i. turntables fucking rock. back down a notch on the clothes.

huckster:

I agree with your opinion of the music, but why do you feel the need to stand out? I'd forget all that bullshit and just be you.

KILL WITH POWER

im not trying to say "stand out and look punk" but im just saying that after the actual music itself, its about behavior, and how you treat and look at different issues (politics, corporations, ect.) and a good way to express that is by clothing. like i said before, you dont need to dress ther part or stand out, but as someone who listens to punk it sort of comes naturally to dress a certain way. you dont say after listening to the ramones "lets go to the gap and get some new baby blue overalls. you feel like rooting through your closet and finding something that expresses how you feel about these issues im talkin about, whether it be black, green, blue, whatever.

machavok.com

yeah i think bands like good charlotte and simple plan are killing punk there is no way that shit should be called punk. Nowadays the typical so called punk song is basically a fucking self pitty party. my girlfriend cheated on me, i'm a loser, my parents beat me, please accept me. that is basically todays so called punk

about the bandaid thing, nelly doesant do it that way :)

oh and add Agent Orange, Circle Jerks, and Bad Religion to my list.
