I snagged a gortex jacket and have worn it about 3 days. Theres so many black stains on the back it looks like ive worn it for 3 years straight. whats up with that? i have worn my saga and virtika jackets on the exact same lifts for years and barely get any black marks.

is gortex literally a sponge when it comes to grease and dirt? ive tried tek washing it multiple times and the stains are still blatantly there. pretty pissed off the jacket is looking pretty ruined having used it 3 days.

any other experiences like this? tips to prevent more staining??

Gore Tex is the membrane that’s sandwiched between a face fabric and a liner fabric. So the stains you’re seeing are probably a product of the face fabric’s DWR coating. They really have nothing to do with the Gore Tex. What brand of jacket is it? And have you been skiing somewhere different with greasier chairs? I struggle to imagine a world in which any of this is Gore Tex’s fault.

That would make sense. was really just making a unique title for the thread rather than blaming gortex.

its a 686 jacket, brand new last year (blue), used twice at targhee, once at pebble. I should have known better to not wear anything nice to pebble, but targhee i wouldnt have thought twice :\

Scrub the stains with dish soap, laundry detergent or even tech washes do nothing for grease stains which is what I'm guessing you have.

Did that 3 times already with dawn, letting the soap soak for a bit each time and used a soft tooth brush to massage the soap into the compromised area. I’ve read you shouldn’t use laundry soap as it wrecks the dwr coating so I haven’t used traditional laundry soap yet.

didn’t phase the stain much :(
