WTF!!!! 1,000,000 Strong for Halfpipe Skiing NOT in the 2010 Olympics.

i hope it doesn't get in the olympics, i dont want to see tanner advertising totinos and mtn dew on MTV.

keep skiing low key, let snowboarding have all hte bandwagon gapers

but having skiing in olympic gives so much more money to so many more athletes and companies meaning more skiers can aford to ski all year round n get that much better

I think skiing needs more publicity. However I don't think xgames is the way to go.

Do we really want 10k more gapers who think they're good because they saw tanner in half pipe?

no, fuck that. Keep skiing how it's supposed to be. If it does get into xgames, cool, if not no big deal. (half pipe of course)

If tanner becomes the next shawn white I'll disown him as a skiier.

the olympics is like the most prestigious sporting event ever. why wouldnt you want half pipe skiing to be in it. it would mean so much to so many poeple.

ya that grp is a bunch of bullshit.. 30 members haha. they should all die.

also, im almost positive that the top pipe skiiers would put on a better show then snowboarders

WTF??: "lets not have skiing in the Olympics because it'll get mainstream and they're will be more gapers"

1. yeah I know it's cool to hate on mainstream stuff sarcasm meter: 10

2. more people getting into skiing is dope, and gapers can be educated (not all of them, but there will always be gapers in every sport

3. hp skiing in the olympics doesn't mean tanner advertising mountain dew

4. look at snowboarding right now, I don't think getting the mainstream attention destroys creativity, at least not if the riders are committed to the love of the sport: see all the companies making progressive shit, snowbord movies for example

that's my opinion

peace

truth.

if it gets too "mainstream" in North American suburbs, then we'll just have to rely on Europeans and Aussies to progres the sport..=)

hahah don't get worked up over this shit. the group has a total of 30 members. its a little ways off from its goal of 1,000,000.

btw does anyone know what exactly is going on and how likely it is that skiing will be in the 2010 olympics.

then why the fuck don't the athletes and companies try harder to get themselves signed up for the big o instead of leaving a bunch of kids to make online petitions and facebook groups for their eventual benefit

I dont' want skiing in the Olympics it'll be the Biatholon all over again. Used to just be core and underground then it got commercialized and everyone started doing it and I was like whatever I followed it even back in the day when no one knew about it. Then there was just too many posers claiming they Biathaloned and I was like whatever poser dude, your just a poser. They ruined the sport. I have yet to cross country whilst shooting since thus moment in my life.

yeah but who carres, look how far skiing has come in the last 5 years WITHOUT the olympics. who says we need to be in them, it's just for the fairness of competition that skiing should be there too. i dont see what everyone thinks will advance so much faster if there was halfpipe in the olympics, ya it'd be awesome to watch cuz i'll be there... but it doesnt do much else for the sport besides streamline halfpipe skiing, and mainstream it, and who wants that. i like how special skiing is. who needs ten thousand pro skiers.

Honestly, if you are good enough, how sick would it be to have the ability to receive a gold medal in the Olympics. That's probably one of the most satisfying feelings in the world: representing your country for something you can do for them. If I were as good at pipe as Tanner and the rest of them, I would be pushing for Olympic glory as well. Plus, I don't think its a bad thing to get a larger audience stoked on skiing! I think it's kinda selfish to restrict the sport we love to only ourselves.

I hate to say it cause I love that skiing is a very core group right now but we NEED the bandwagon gapers.

Right now there are SO many kids that deserve to be sponsored but can't be because there isn't enough money in the industry. And you can say that's not a big deal but if you're serious about the sport and want to make it as a professional you're going to realize at some point that it's damn hard to do. It's not enough to be one of the best skiers in the world. you have to somehow find the money to get to competitions or photoshoots or whatever it is that you're gonna do to make people see that you're that good. It's damn near impossible to save the money to travel to these events and still be able to train often enough to not get you ass kicked when you get to these events. thing is once you finally are sponsored it's not like it's going to help out that much, cause it's still gonna take you forever to convince the sponsors to give you a travel budget.

If skiing were in the olympics it would be so much easier for athletes to go to companies (outside of the industry that can actually offer them some decent money) asking for some support so they can acctually focus on training.

Sorry for the rant and sorry if I discouraged anyone from wanting to become a pro skier but it's the reality of it. Skiing is one god damn hard sport to make it in right now

true.... but i agree with the rest, the olympics would rule and all but there are some major downsides to the sport selling out ...

it would be sick if skiing was in the olympics, the x games has attracted so much attention that skiing in the olympics wouldn't be new to anybody

as long as pros who end up in the olympics stay true to the sport and do it NOT BECAUSE OF MONEY then its fine. Once they start selling out for sponsers and publicity I'll have a problem. I agree that the industry needs more money to help sponser kids who really deserve but don't have it, but I also feel that it can get to a point where this sport turns away from its roots and becomes the next skateboarding, a capitalized way for everyone to make money with very few innvovaters and true people in it.

I swear to god if they bring back jonnhy mosleys mad tricks....

have you been reading the NS features lately? a lot of people are pushing for halfpipe skiing to be in the olympics.

JEA CED! and to the kid that was like "let it have more money blah blah blah" who the fuck are you? who cares if it has more money, your probably never gonna be pro anyways. Were skiers cause we love to ski, we dont care about money, if i cared about money i would have kept playing fuckin hockey.

i totally dig that, and i think if it made it in, it would start off with the hugest bang any sport introduced would ever see. and i think it'd turn into the new biggest thing in the winter olympics, honestly. and i dont know if they're ready for that change, so i dont think it's that simple. i think the media enjoys alpine skiing events more as the primary display of skiing seeing as the racing industry has more change dumped into it and i believe firmly that ski companies enjoy that balance. but why they wouldn't explore their op's for expanding the industry WHYYY i dont knoww. i'd love to be able to watch the halfpipe at cypress and see tanner or anyone else take home the gold, that'd be a great day in life right there.

and even more so, it'd be amazing if 20 years from now, i could tell my kid i remember the day halfpipe made it to the olympics (sounding like an old guy haha)and by then it will be just ridiculously advanced and so prominent as a winter event and will appear as if it were always there and you'd have to be crazy to not think it was worthy. i pray that days on the way.
