I don't deny there are bad things in the US right now, hell, 51% of the country to be exact. But god damnit, our country being fat is NOT a problem. I do't give a shit how fat people are. hell, fat kids are harder to kidnap, that means our country is safer.

Been posted many times... Go to goodwill or any type of second hand store. Irons there are about $2. Try to get one without holes, but if there arent any, no big deal. The only objective of the iron is to get the wax melted so that your base can absorb it.

If you want one actualy made for waxing skis, check out ebay because they usualy have a few cheap ones on there.

The goodwill iron is a good idea if you want to burn the shit out of your base, even if it is inadvertantly. The temperature varies so much on those things even if you have it at its lowest setting on some of them they will still be capable of not only melting the wax, but melting the ptex.

Tognar does have a basic flat iron for sale for under 30, http://tognar.com/wax_tools_hot_irons_corks_brushes_ski_snowboard.html#SPK-IRON

^Youre an idiot. You wait till the iron smokes, then turn it down until it doesnt smoke anymore. This isnt rocket science, and its quite tough to MELT ptex. Even a flame takes time to melt it. Go cheap, i use my moms old iron, and have NEVER had a problem.

You can use any iron. When we raced, we picked ours up at yard sales and such. It's not an important piece of equipment. It just has to be hot enough to hold a stick of wax to, so the wax drips, then run the iron over and spread the wax. Don't waste your money on a waxing iron.

You guys are seriously misinformed on this subject. An iron is one of the more important things in tuning, and one of the only things that can make your waxjob beter without changing your technique. I guarantee you guys that if you tune your skis with an iron you bought from goodwill, ski on them for a week. Then tune your skis with even a midrange iron meant for waxing you will find a considerable difference in the speed of your bases.

And to twintipskiier, yes it takes quite a bit of heat to melt ptex when its in the "stick" form, but the thousands of ptex hairs that are all over your base melt VERY easily and just above the temperature at which most waxes melt.

To most of you, no it won't make a difference, and it wouldnt make a difference to you if you didn't even wax your skis for 4 or 5 weeks. But if your trying to do the best tune you can, having a decent iron will make a considerable impact on the results that you receive.

Flynn, I am SO SURE UR A RACER, like my sis, she wax her skis like every weeks, i wax my skis like once or twice a year, here in the east its icy, so no need waxing, I dont thing a special iron makes a better job, ITS FUKIN WAX THAT MELTS, you cant semi melt or sometjin, and anyway, you scrape most of it after, so who cares if its not perfect.

actually, if the iron is too hot you can burn or bubble your base which makes it real slow. also, different temperature waxes have different melting points, so it only makes sense to use an iron with adjustible temperature so that you dont burn the wax as you drip it on (iron smoking).

I actualy have never raced. Just work in a shop and have learned what works and what doesnt work, what helps and what doesnt help.

For skiing park, it doesn't make any difference.

For racing, it would.

Rails and boxes ruin your skis anyways, so why does it matter if your waxing is slightly better.
