WTB: Volkl Karma maybe Salomon Foil

I'm looking for 177s, maybe 169. If you have a pair, or have any suggestions on where to look (for last years) post away. I may also be interested in a pair of 174 Foils
 
I'm telling you as a 5'9" 165lb. owner of 177 Karmas who's been skiing for 20 years that you definitely ought to shoot for 169's, but that despite how great a ski it is you'll probably have a lot more fun on the Foils at your size (which is ~120lbs. right?).

Do a multi-region search on Craigslist using crazedlist.org and keep an eye on the tetongravity and epicski forums. It can't hurt to check eBay every couple days either.

 
Thanks for the suggestion. You got the weight correct; about 5' 10" and around 125lb. I'm leaning towards the 177 because I'm hoping I'd be able to get a season more than if I got the 169. Both the Karmas and Foils are pretty expensive so I'm trying to maximize my investment. It also doesn't seem too great of a decision to go from a 164 to a 169, too little difference. I guess I'll start looking more seriously at the Foils. The 174 is a compromise, and hopefully I'd still be able to ski them next year.
 
I don't recall what you've been skiing on, but going to a 169 Karma isn't a bad choice unless you plan on gaining a lot of weight.

They're just a much stiffer ski from tip to tail than a lot of the twin tips out there. If you were closer to 160+ lbs. and a strong skier (which you may well be) I'd have nothing but praises for going with the 177 Karma, but because of the stiffness I think it'd be a bit overpowering regardless of the fact that your height may indicate you could be looking at a slightly longer ski than the 169.
 
I was skiing on 164 public enemies last year. There is nothing wrong with them, I just started looking at new skis and began wondering if mine were too short.
 
i predict that u have never skiied foils and are simply jumping on the bandwagon because they are sick!!
 
I'm so jealous of people light enough to ski foils! They're so light and have a super fun sidecut and hella poppy and shit. at 125 they should be perfect for you.
 
and just to clarify in this thread, whatever skis i get will be used probably 90% mtn 10% park. i thought i was going to get into the terrain park last year, but found i was a sissy. i haven't given up yet, but want a good all mountain ski
 
$300 was how much the craigslist offering you gave me was. i probably would've gotten them but he had them on ebay ending this morning. it only ended with one bid, so I probably could've gotten them for under $350ish. i found another pair of new 174 foils on ebay with a one bid for $300 ending in 5 days, so i'll watch that.
 
right now there's 2 auctions i'm looking at for 174 07 foils. both have one bid, the first auction for $300 and the other $350. are there any sites that will sell the foils for significantly less than the $550 retail? i like to just buy the skis, and not hastle with bidding
 
yeah, the karma is my top choice, but it's too expensive for me. because of the price, i would get the 177s so i could at least get a few years out of them, but because of my light weight, they might be too stiff for me. the foil has also been recommended and it also appears to preform well all mountain. it looks like i could get the 174, which is a compromise on length, for under $400 .
 
if i were to get last year's karmas i'd get 177s. i haven't found that size online, and a pair that just ended on ebay went for $485
 
volkls are in really high demand it seems....hard to get any for a low price now, esp gotamas
 
well the foil auction i was looking at jumped up to almost $400 and the auction isn't over yet, so with shipping it's going to be more than i want to spend.

any other ideas on where to look?
 
ok, so i've probably ruled out the karmas since i can't find them cheep enough. so now i'm looking at the foils and 07 public enemys, both size 174. which would you recommend for mostly all mountain and very minimal park?

it looks like i can get the pe's for $365 shipped on ebay. there are two auctions for the foils, one for $350 and the other for $305 - both with $30 shipping. a pair of foils ended for $300, but the last pair i saw ended at $385...

174 07 pe $365

some other ski, which is the comparable rossignol ski?
 
I would say foil. Just a more exicting ski overall. But you'll be totally happy with either. (that's the great thing about skis).
 
greenskimonster, just because they aren't race skis like your used to, doesn't mean its not a good ski. racing and freeskiing are alot different bud.
