WSI Big Air Format.

As you all know, the Big Air is back in the Village this year and to prevent a switch 10 contest (like every other one this year) I have a suggestive format that I would like to throw at you.

Every athlete is paired up with eachother. Then out of a hat the pair draws a rotation (360, 540, 720, 900 or switch 3 5 7 9...)

that pair of skiers must then compete between eachother to move on, pulling the best looking trick in that rotation. It gives the comp some style points and doesnt make it a spin to win event. What do you think?

thats a pretty good idea, i don't know if they'd debut it at the WSI just cause it's such a huge event, but i love the concept of it.

hard to judge? you have two skiers doing a cab 5. who's looked better? simple as that.

Narrow it down to the top 4 or 6 and then open'er up.

BEST IDEA EVER

Seriously, man, this is a FUCKING SICK IDEA. I can't tell you how awesome I think that is. That would be the sickest competition. DAMN, good idea. Please, for the love of god talk to the right people to make that happen.

it sounds good but i feel like it prevents creativity and limits the athele too much. what we really need is a judging system thats not looking for "spin to win" bull shit if the judges started giving high scores for new innovative tricks like new grabs and more points for style over number of rotations. i think something like a switch rodeo 9 should win by far over a corked 1080 if it looks better. thats what big air is about looking cool not rotating as much as you can and if you can throw a 540 that looks way cooler than a 1080 than you should win thats just me

oh ya killer idea, but i think that maybe it should be its own "style" comp, just like big air is its own event, then slopestyle would be the in betweeeeen????

I like it a lot, but its not quite dialed, there something missing, I think there should be some kind of freedom to allow the riders to go Big in the Big air comp. You know, rise up

There's a couple Ideas on the table, one if best of 2 then top 5 have a bag of tricks contest, the other is a much better idea

10 guys best of 2, top 5 qualify then the top five have a Best 5, Best 7, Best 9 and Best 10 contest, total of 20 jumps in the final and since it's ski and snowboard at the same time this year (about time) it'd be a total of 80 jumps all night, would be SO sick!

BT, Not a bad idea though

i think all this would change is people complaining about judging. i mean, ifyou look at any big air, even though it is lots of cab 10's there are always discrepencies on which one was the smoothest, or which one deserved to win. it would mix up the tricks, however i feel the same problem would still arise. i think it should be all about rider judged contests

That would be pretty cool, and to help with judging you can also focus more on the distance they go down the landing.

i think the rotation idea and pulling them out of a hat is very SICK!!!! but I think the athelte should have his choice of what axis or invert he is going to choose.

it would be fun, but for most big air comps i would want to choose my own trick. its kinda taking the free out of freeskiing for me. it would be really fun to compete in it if they had it in addition to normal big air

It would be sick if when they picked a rotation you could do any variation you wanted. Corked, Bio, Misty, Rodeo, Natty/Unatty.... There would be plenty of room for creativity.

No, that's not the idea. Both guys would be paired up and one trick would be drawn for the both of them to do and depending on who does that trick better moves on.

^why its not simply just a 'style' contest, the WSI isn't a fashion runway, but its a contest to show which skier can put together a combination of style and technical ability the best
