SIMON DUMONT WINS THE FIFTH ANNUAL WORLD SUPERPIPE CHAMPIONSHIPS

PARK CITY, UTAH (March 11, 2007) – Park City Mountain Resort is proud to announce that Simon Dumont has won the men’s skiing competition at the fifth annual World Superpipe Championships, which took place March 11, 2007 in Park City, Utah. Dumont , with a top score of 97.67, won a $15,000 prize purse as well as the title of 2007 World Superpipe Champion.

“The clear sky was the perfect backdrop for the high-flying skiers at this year’s World Superpipe Championships,” said Krista Parry, spokeswoman for Park City Mountain Resort. “The amplitude and tricks off the 22-foot walls of the Eagle Superpipe were bigger than we’ve ever seen before.”

Dumont, last year’s second place winner, had a stunning second run to dethrone Tanner Hall, the 2006 defending World Superpipe Champion, from the top spot in the men’s skiing competition. Hall took second place with a top score of 95.33 followed by Mike Riddle (92.33) for third, with Jossi Wells (90.0) and Stefan Thomas (86.0) for fourth and fifth respectively. However, it was the twelfth place finisher, Scott Hibbert, with a high-altitude, double back-flip, who received the biggest cheer from the crowd.

The World Superpipe Championships hosted by Park City Mountain Resort invites the world’s top skiers and snowboarders to compete for a piece of the $90,000 purse in the Eagle Superpipe, the world’s largest superpipe and the site for the 2002 Winter Games. On Sunday, March 11th, the best skiers in the world battled it out in a best of three-run format. The World Superpipe Championships is free to the public and includes live music, food, and giveaways. dude, dumonts 12 was sick, he grabbed tail for at least 2 full rotations and was going the biggest out of the pipe then anyone, he deserved the win. thalls run was okay, but lacked the wow factor like others had. (the run he did you've seen him do dozens of times, except for the ugly 12) riddle and wells did fucking amazing.

no, no, no... haven't you guys figured it out yet? simon or tanner wins. the other takes second if he's competing. some other dudes fill in the top five, and then symms gets seventh or something. accept it. it's best for the sport... and the scripts have already been published. DUMONT VS. THALL: SKIER PIPE'S EPIC BATTLE.

hell yea simon, hes made so much money this year. all his comp winnings plus a couple of his big sponsors match his winnings. that means hes probably made 300-400K this year off competitions, jeez

i took this photo of simon killing it the WSC today. it went simon, tanner, riddle, jossi, stefan. excellent competition to see. tanner was doing 12s first hit, grabbed, simon had them dialed for 3rd hit grabbed as well. big shout to tucker perkins from attitash he was going huge, but was unfortunatley not able to lay down a full run. same case with justin dorey, who slayed it but didnt lay it all down. great height from both those guys. proper props to dorey for the largest alleyoop flat ive seen since chriton won the pipe best hit contest in whistler. hibbert did back to back 10s (right side 10 on left wall to left side switch 10 on right wall, wow!) followed by a dialed laid out backflip. did i mention his first hit double back to fakie!? all in all it was a great contest and the level of competition was super high. dumonts height was rising faster than my BAC (no thanks to utah three point two's) and the overall excitement was off the hook. the whole event went down to the tune of dj kuncklz, coordinated smoothly courtesy of red bull. it was a sweet event, thanks to park city for pulling it off without a hitch and showing us how a legit pipe comp should go down.
