The change in earnings for if a woman has a child or not has a dramatic change. For waiting to have your child 10 years later life, you could make up to 125,000 more dollars. To choose not to have a child at all you could be making up to $913,000 compared to the $625,000 or 750,000. That statistic surprises me. To think about it, though, to wait ten years, you will have a better reputation and history with your company and most likely salary rises. With all those in consideration, you will most likely be more able to take your maternity leave and not be as worried or in money troubles when you are on leave and return back to work. Also to factor in is that when you have a child you need to pay for all their expenses; if you are just starting out at a company your pay will not be as high as it will be in ten years, so you would have to live on less to support your child.
The situation; the question to ask is my personal thoughts on the situation. Well, almost everyone is going to have to deal with it. Whether you plan to have children or not, it could happen. You might also not know the age it happens. With all the statistics you show and the hypothetical situation; I will most likely still have children. I am hoping to be married before I have children. You can never plan these things at my age though. Yes, I can hope that I get married at the nice age of 25 and have 3 lovely children later on, but this is reality. Things never happen how they seem and rarely happen how you’ve dreamed about them. Day care costs are also out of the roof. It costs hundreds of dollars to send your child to a decent child care service. The stress of it all takes a toll on you as well. Not to mention if your child is sick or if your child is not healthy at birth, you have to factor in medical expenses as well. I don’t think that all those factors are going to make me not want to have children though. Having a child and raising one is one of those experiences in life that you don’t want to miss the chance.
