your hand/wrist is ALOT stronger when making a fist, hence get into the habit of clutching your poles when you fall. Works for me and no busted wrists yet ... it also helps when trying to pick your shit up off the hill after you bail

Wrist guards work pretty well, once you get used to your wrist being fixed. But it doesn't prevent fractures, just makes shure you don't break your joint but further up the radius. This heals better and doesn't leave loss of use of your wrist.
