WP, Prophets, Poaching, 05/06 Public Enemies, etc...

So yesterday we went skiing at Winter Park. The park was closed for one of their local slopestyle comps. The snow wasn't that good, so we skied the upper park, which wasn't that good either. I was on Prophets, so I was a little apprehensive about skiing them on ice and groomers. But they were the best ski I've ever used. So easy to control, and surprisingly quick edge to edge. The only bad thing about them is all the comments you get from tourists in the lift line. Last run of the day, I convinced Mike and Dan Broadbent to poach the slopestyle course while the comp was still going. They bombed it, and both had better runs than any of the competitors. Dan finished his run off with a huge corked 7. On another note, we just got the 05/06 Public Enemies in stock. MSRP is $500, but we're selling them for $399.99. They have p-tex topsheets, pretty sick.

i hate how winter park holds their comps, 3/4 of the competitors are snowboarders who can't even clear the little jumps, and they close the whole freakin park

hmmmm i don't know about a dspin 7 being better than a cork 10 that a kid threw...

Except for the fact that all the kids in that comp never attempt to grab their tricks. WP is probably the most lacking in style of any resort I've been to.

^Spriggs is AMAZING. Kinda funny though he was the only competitor at the US Open Big Air that threw a switch 12, but he didn't score well cuz he did not grab (There is an actual rule that subtracts 30 points for not grabbing, terrible rule). I think he is one of the most under rated skiers around.

terrible rule? i think it's a great rule.

^Why? Cuz u think it will turn into arials? i dont think a grab is the only thing that makes us different from freeskiers. We worry about our image way too much. The whole purpose of freeskiing is that you do what you want to do, NOT what ppl tell you to do.

No ones telling you what to do. You simply have to grab to get a higher score. Do it, win, dont, lose.

spriggs didn't do the winter park comp he was busy getting second at the paul michel comp and getting a spot in the gravity games. spriggs is way ill now- his segment in bermans new movie will be ill

Grabbing is not what's important, it's the controlling of your body that matters. Tanner does some real smooth tricks with no grabs, and those are sick. It's when you start throwing 1260's with your arms spinning all over (spriggs) the place that you shouldn't get props. Pros came out on NS and said that it looked like shit. I agree with their decision.

Nope. His arms were not all over the place. He was holding a grab and spinning in a ball. He got screwed. Especially since he was stepping it up and going beyond everyone else's switch 10's.

I agree, but Spriggs was not throwing smooth no grab 1260's. He was a tornado of fists and elbows.

when we were at winter park last weekend a kid (luke) was doing sweet 9 true tails ove the bottom jump. he is a kid that skis at winter park that had good style

Yeah at the end of the rotation his arms kinda came out. if they had scored him well theo the comp would have been soooooo much more fun. ppl would try to do stylie 12s to beat his, or just get really huge amplitude. It was all switch tens cept for a few 9s and 7s.

Yeah Luke from WP is sick. He and Parks Thompson. They're both really good. Luke does switch rodeo 5 true tails, and parks is the one who threw the cork 10 that someone talked about earlier. He had a safety too. I saw it cuz i was filming him.

what's really funny about this whole discussion is that we think that a 1260 can look clean in any situation....

And just so conservatives don't take it to heart
I don't think Bush did it cause he isn't that smart.

I agree with jarrod on this one, that is a stupid rule. Like josh said, it's all about control and you don't always have to grab to make a trick look good. If it doesn't look as cool as something with a grab then judge it accordingly but mandatory subtracting points is just gay cuz i have seen some sick ass tricks w/ out grabs for sure.

yeah i conquer like when people do huge stalled threes with no grabs those can def look cool and as for the kid who said a corrked ten beats a d 7 it all depends if all that kid did (ididnt seeit) was go and huck himself f a jump and hope for the best then that doesnt beeat mikes d-7 cause those are buttery smooth

i think any strict formula in judging is bad because it cramps both style and innovation. everytime that a competition makes a rule like 30 points off if you don't grab, freeskiing loses the free and returns back down its path of progression towards racing, where you have to have the strictest of form to compete. fucking judging is ruining the sport.....its just not freeskiing like that.
