Wow, pirates holding guy i know hostage...

so i just found out yesterday, there was a ship carrying food aid to africa off the coast of somalia, pirates took the ship and a guy from my town surrendered himself alone to let the rest of the 30 something crew go. i know his daughter fairly well and he used to let me rip around on his snowmobiles, super nice guy.

right now he is on a lifeboat with the pirates, and there is a navy destroyer withing eyesight of them trying to negotiate, they also have navy seals on board if things get crazy. i really hope he comes out of this ok.

wow and i was just going to find a link to an article, apparently they are asking 2 million for ransom, last night he tried to escape by swimming to the navy ship but they shot at him and he turned back.

I sail as a 4th engineer on bulk carriers, but only in the great lakes for now. Piracy is a scary moment in one's life. I hope everypone gets out ok...
 
I really hope it turns out well, they have threatened to kill him, and he has already tried to escape once. He jumped off but was recaptured. Frankly, I am really embarrassed at how obama and clinton are handling this one.
 
esus dude that is out of control. The somalian Pirates must be worried that if they free him, the Navy ships are just going to unload on them...This doesn't look like it's going to have a happy ending, really hope your friend gets out alright.

Yeah can you believe that? This isnt even altogether uncommon, seen many many similar stories.

Anyways your friend is a badass, hopefully he can jack bauer the shit out of them and get out haha~

yea more like someone screaming at you in another language and pointing a loaded AK47 in your face. Than most likely holding a k-bar to your throat when they make a cidio to send to your family demanding ransom.

This isn't 24, he's a really nice guy and his son is one of the nicest kids i went to highschool with.

I saw on the news the pirates called in backup, it kinda made me laugh actually just because of how rediculous that sounds. but good luck to the guy, he's definatly a bad ass.
 
Navy seals should just swim towards them underwater and pop up and shoot all the pirates, or a simultaneous sniper firing to kill all the pirates, and both of those sound like impossible to pull off. Fuck them for taking hostages because they are scared, if they kill him I hope those navy ships unload on there pirate asses. +Vibes though
 
Yea, one of my dads friends knows him too, he is from my town. It bloooowwwws, they shot the news from the corner in my town though, kinda cool.
 
first off i hope the captian of the ship gets home to his family safely and +vides his family and crewj. i might sound like a dick but the government or the shipping company should not pay the ransom money that the pirates are asking for. if they do it just show other guys in somolia that they can make a shit load of money off of being a pirate. if the money is payed there will be a bunch more pirate attacks like this in the future. also who knows if the pirates will get the money and then just kill the captian.
