Would you wear a watch that counts down to your death?

If Mr. Mephistopheles offered you a watch that revealed your time of death, and counted down to it, would you accept this token, no strings attached?

Why the fuck would I want that? Kind of takes away the beauty of being alive if you're counting down every second until your death...

Some don't like the thought of not knowing when they're going to die. Not me personally but I'm sure there's people out there that would want to know when their life will end.

Would the time change depending on the decisions I made? That would sketch me out a fuck ton.

Anyway, IMO I don't think it would change anything in my life, I mean I know I'm going to die anyway. I would still enjoy every minute I have. It wouldn't change the excitement of anything, or the spontaneity of anything. I could still get seriously injured and become a vegetable. I am much more afraid of that than death.

I think I would, because having a constant reminder that I am indeed mortal would hopefully help me keep the time I spend/waste on stupid shit to a minimum.

You'd have to be a psychopath in order for it to not drive you insane. I don't think any normally functioning human mind could handle that for an extended period of time without going balls to the walls crazy.

man I can barely handle my fucking alarm in the morning. If i wake up within an hour of when my alarm is gonna go off I lay in bed anticipating it and I can't get back to sleep

My thoughts exactly. I wouldn't really wanna live in that time unless I was on the rich side.

And no I wouldn't wear said watch.

It's ticking down, not up. The very ability to manipulate your own fate the way you describe would make the device he's describing a theoretical impossibility.

Thread jack

Who here thinks there is a definitive point in time/space where they will meet their demise? Or does one have the ability to alter things like this?

Basically, who here thinks there is such a thing as free will?

You don't believe you have the ability to alter your time of death? I expect based on my current lifestyle to live around the average life expectancy for an american male. Do I believe I can shorten my lifespan by smoking a pack every day, doing meth, and playing in traffic? Certainly. If I continue my current lifestyle, is there a decent probability a drunk driver could prematurely kill me or I could drop dead of a heart attack at 50? Certainly.

thislife is like skiing

you can control whether you'll fall or not by picking runs/features that you are comfortable or uncomfortable on, but there's always the chance you'll catch an edge or some gaper coming out of nowhere hitting you.

Or you get hit by a car in a random street.

Or you get cancer.

Or you get murdered.

Or you fall off of a roof...

The question is do you believe it fate. Is everyone going to die at a certain time. I don't think you're grasping the question.

but at the same time it would put some motivation in my life. i feel like its real easy to say ill do that tomorrow. but if i knew how much time i had, i wouldnt waste it

Cool I appreciate you not actually answering the question.

The question is,

'Is that hamper inevitable for some at certain times?

Dum dum.

Exactly, and whether or not he/she/whatever is real is a question that has been posed as long as humanity itself.

So I could be thinking on it for a bit..

I would definitely want one. It would motivate me to be live to the fullest and not waste my time poorly.
