No, I wouldn't be offended...but my people weren't enslaved, lynched, denied justice, denied education and generally looked down upon for centuries. The black community might just have a SLIGHTLY different perspective than I do...

I don't buy it. What some of the blacks went through was an absolutely horrid thing that I don't wish on anyone. But 4skizzle is right, most blacks in today's society were born a free man just like us, yet why do they get this constant special treatment?

Sure, their ancestors were oppressed. At one time, their race caused them to be treated poorly. But are we forgetting that just about every single race out there has been slaves at one time or another?

Think about it.

Indians were traded, Jews were slaves to Egypt, Irish have been treated horrible, when first coming to America think about what the Japanese went through.

Esentially, this is my point; we can either move on with our lives, let go of the past and learn from other's mistakes OR we can continue to hold onto it and let it drag us down.

I'd like to agree with 4skizzle, but I don't think we have equality even today, so I guess the fight, as it were, continues.

The key is making the distinction between individual black people and their community's identity. Just as most americans will hold their hand over their hearts in respect of their forefathers and country, despite not having been alive during the revolution or present at the signing of the declaration of independence, it's the same with the black community. Most of them are proud of what their people have done and will continue to treat their heritae with the respect it deserves.

Of course in practice there are a lot of people who'll just be habitually offended at anything remotely controversial, and others who'll take it in stride, but like I said, there's a difference between the individual and the community.

 
J.D you make a good point but how many black people actually 'respect' their ancestors. To me it seems like they just use them as an excuse to ask for special treatment. It's kinda like they're just using what their ancestors went through as an excuse. Their kinda latching on to an old arguement.

JD may you are completley right, in the sense that there still isnt equality. Affirmative action has cause the white male to become almost a lesser person. Having to work almost twice as hard and score almost twice as hig on management tests. It happened to my father twice. Wasn't promoted at his job because when he took the test with a minority, he outscored them but wasn't promoted because they had 'different standards' he was told. COmplete bullshit. If someone was to go make a channel call White televison they would be the biggest racist ever, but no, its ok to have that, and all black colleges, black clubs, and anything else. BULLSHIT

i dont get how black people are aloud to make fun of white people because they were or are still now 'oppressed' but im jewish and i cant make fun of a german because i was 'oppressed' 50 or so years ago, if i did that it would be racist and i would be reprimanded, i dont think germans are generally bad now cause people change, and most germans i think werent even nazi's, i dont think black people deserve a right to make comments about other races while we dont, every person is racially or religiously made fun of regardless of skin color or anything, we all should be allowed to make comments in jest.

skiinsted mentioned affermitive action. he is absolutly right, it is the single dumbest thing that has ever been worked into the Canadian charter of rights and freedoms. section 15(1) says that you can not dicriminate based on sex race religion ect. and then section 15(2) says that programs to help people who are disivantaged by sex, race, religion ect. are alowed. Does anyone else see the hiprocracy of this? it is reverse discrimination. You can not discriminate based on these criteria, but you can say that they are disadvantaged and that there should be speical programs to help the people who fall into those catagories. thats just a slap on the face.

that is the only thing anywhere implying that blacks/women are inferior. i dont carry around an attitude that because i am a white male, i am superior to anyone. and im sure that blacks/women dont personally go around feeling 'inferior' to white guys.

what im saying is the government, in trying to promote equality, are the only ones holding it back. in essence, i, the white male, am now a minority, and am being discriminated against.

im not at all a racist of any sort but one thing i find funny is that the african americans have their 'BET' (Black entertainment television) and it is considered a big step for them,although, I have a feeling that if a so called 'WET' (white entertainment televion) were to come out, that it would be taken as a 'KKK', or white supremicist movement or something. what do you think?

cracker just doesn't have the conotations that nigger does. white people don't feel opressed and because of that, the word doesn't have associations with oppression. nigger does and its as simple as that. when you say it negatively, it has only one intention, to bury a black person. i went to a high school that was 40 percent white. i got called white boy or cracker all the time, it was never serious, they were usually joking. but all jokes aside, it didn't hurt to be called that, it just rolled off my back. nigger just isn't the same word. but then of course theres no such thing as reverse racism.

I agree 100% that programs such as affirmative action promote racism for the sole fact that we are making laws that are not colorblind that in an essence is the majority of the problem. Even talking about racism promotes it in my opinion.
