Who was I shooting?
Everybody - yes - but the laptops were always out showing the photos as they were downloaded from the cam as well as past photos. I had the laptops - my personal one of which was always marked with the website. I had biz cards, I had stickers, I wasn't hiding at all - even the cameras had the site on them. Yes, shooting everybody but only at first was it ever random... didn't take long for the site to catch on and everybody start directly asking for photos - which I didn't mind.
Buy a pass and walk up?
Good luck. Last year they told us ride or not, a pass must be had by each person; so, two passes were bought. Later in the year they told us that since only one of us was riding, only one pass was needed. Rumor has it, they even made parents buy passes just for sitting in the chalet watching their kids (mind you many of them then often conversed with us directly as well - if not also through e-mail and/or messengers).
Their Reply to your inquiry
I find it completely humorous. We were told directly that no cameras were allowed at the resort. Two days of riding plus maybe five runs on the third and the season pass which had been $380 was null. It's funny too then that they tell us cameras aren't allowed yet there's always a big DSLR on the hill who has never identified himself to anybody - I know - he was there when we were and still is. His camera was always raised when I saw him yet no identification. If he's supposed to be working for the resort, fine, but then the resort should supply or require some sort of resort outerwear. Still, no cameras means no cameras - unless it's creative rule making.
Fact is, my site has always been free, always has been and always will be. I have no intent to make a profit off of the images of others. If so, then it puts everything into a whole different ballgame. The site was created originally as a bunch of friends being able to see photos I had taken of them but it didn't take long to snowball. Being in numerous newspapers multiple times in multiple states, the site still pushes far more visitors than any "personal" site. Sure, I could probably turn it around into a paid site of some sort; but, read the newspapers, watch TV, listen to the radio, or get news in whatever other way you want - what do you ever see or hear that's good about the younger generation? The majority of what's published is negative. The fact that I offer something positive, positive reinforcement... truth is, I do have support from both riders and parents as well as the fact that the site has been around for now over ten years. I've never had issues in the past and quite frankly, if this particular resort wants to be that way, more power to them. Those who know me, those who I have supported and who support the site in return, they know what it's about and that's all that matters. I'm still willing to ride but there's only so many season passes I can afford in one season; so, we'll see what happens.
