Would today's tricks be possible 60-70 years ago?

Given the state of the equipment in the 1940's / 1950's, would it be possible to do today's tricks with the skis / boots / bindings of that era?

 
i might be mistaken, but i believe most people still skied on freeheel bindings then. so in general, no, but telemarkers can do some decent park tricks
 
actually you cant really land backseat and lean back in ankle high leather boots. if im getting the tricks skiers do today correctly.

not a chance . my grandfather skied in the 1950 and turning was a bitch. u have to remeber their skis were 210 cm they had these terrible bear trap bindings, and boots were just high leather bootss with some terrible rubber sole. my dad also has a ski musuem so yeah there is no way
 
I'm gonna go ahead and say today's tricks couldn't have been done 10 years ago. Center mount alone makes such a difference, let alone other tech
 
Somethings could have been done, but others would have been impossible. You could land switch on straight skis, but as soon as you started to turn or carve switch it would be ugly. Carving was a lot tougher on older straight skis. If you really want an education go find a pair of old straights and try them out. Carving switch would be pretty much impossible on Straight 205's . The weight was totally different too. Because the skis were mounted traditionally, the tip weighed more than the tail. That made it much tougher to stop your rotation. Corked stuff not landing switch would have been doable. I'm sure some old freestylers did them by mistake when they were trying to learn full twisting backs.
 
actually i think many of them would. however, people have only been progressing this way because of the knowledge we now have. example, in order to pretzel, you have to drop your ski. thats something we have learned very recently. the people had the knowledge we do, they could and would have done many of the stuff done now.

i wouldnt say so but who nos maby but who would think of all those tricks sixty or seventy years ago haha it has gotten so much better compared to then its unreal!
