Would anyone else like to see more from a buyers guide?

Being so excited when I finally see the buyers guide in the mail box and........ what is this? we have seen pictures of every ski out for next year for months over newschoolers, so where is the new info? We all know all the freeskier dudes are on this site and see whats going on ( such as the countless threads about next years equipment)

How about something as simple and basic as: " this ski has such and such amount of pop, stiffness, turns like blah blah, WEIGHT OF THE SKIS, maybe something on how they slide the rails and spin in the air??? Thats great doing this for one or two pairs of far from the most anticipated skis for next season but i will not be happy until they have a picture of the ski and answer all that shit. get it together freeskier or your grounded!

ive never found buyer's guides useful. the magazines are too beholden to advertisers to be critical of anything, the best advice your gonna get is here on NS

Whats everyones take on the general idea of a buyers guide? Do you read it cover to cover, then decide on what set of boards to buy? or buy this time of season have you already picked out a certain model? And if so, what drives you to pick this model, brand, ahtletes, grafx, ect...

they rated addict pros last year really bad, stating too stiff for park, aka they're weak girly men and cant handle the sickness of the ski.

Yea the Freeskier buyers guide is usually at least decent, with some useful information. It is nice to see all the lengths and models in one place. But I just got the Powder buyers guide and it was pathetic. Really, really useless. Anyone else think it was a joke?

i had freeskier buyers guide last year ad it helped me choose the ski i wanted. it just convinced me after seeing other reviews and things like that, but you cant only base your idea on it.

the only legit ski review I see in ski mags is the one in the free mag Ski Press (it's not that good though, and it's oriented to the weekends warrior, I like how they rate the skis etc...)

other ski mags just make me feel bad not buying the 09 skis

you can easily map out all of next years equipment using newschoolers and the threads.

on account of what kind of stuff i will be getting next year, just the amount of presence and dedication moment skis has put into this website and skiing in general is reason enough for me to strongly look into they're merchandise and after further checking they're stuff out and messaging their reps ive been able to conclude that they have dope ass skis and riders and stand for a lot of good things and that's what skiings about. i dont really want to buy from a company that gives no effort...i want something that reaches out to me and speaks volumes

i also go by word of mouth for example i heard the urban punx are dope as fuck and line has some sick skis

this is killing me F freeskier for not getting my magazine to me and getting everyone elses to um before so they can just talk and talk and talk it up on the post forums so i can't even know what their talking about or anything. so lame dudes. so lame.

i cant wait to get mine!
they cant cover everything about every ski out there they are just giving you an over view so you can narrow down the choices and find the 5 skis that fit your needs best.

I have now read the powder, freeskier, and skiing buyers guides. For the most part they are all pretty worthless. I would rank them with Powder having the best and a mix between Skiing and freeskier for worst.

Skiing atleast gave a review off all the skis they put in the mag, freeskier did not even bother, they gave a review of 1/4th - 1/3rd of the skis, and just gave you the dimensions, sizes and price along with their worthless 'stoke' rating for the rest of the skis which did not even include that many. There were alot of noticeable absences from the free skier review. Add in the fact that they and Matt Harvey are ass kissing Oakley outerwear (the water proofing and quality you expect from Oakley?!?! what the fuck Oakley has not had good water proofing or quality for the last 3 or 4 years), and Salomon bindings (the only one they bother to review) and you get a pretty worthless Buyers guide.

The Skiing one was also terrible as it did not bother to include many top quality skis for next season, and instead gave their 'best in test' rating to their top advertisers. (add money not playing any factor my ass) Their reviews were often inaccurate, and once again proved a good chunk of their testers can't ski for shit (the new LP is defiantly not a charging ski), (the Megawatt suck balls in everything but powder, freeskier got that one wrong too), They also described the Big Trouble as being soft and forgiving while the rossi S5 as being stiff (Scratch BC), and unless Rossi really changed the Scratch BC/S5, the big trouble is stiffer then the rossi.

The Powder one was the best by far. they gave you a good description of all the skis, telling you what they should be used for and how they will perform (poppy, stiff, etc.) They did not bother to review them, which is better then Freeskier and Skiing's shit reviews. You can not give a good solid review of the ski after a run or two. You need to test it in all sorts or terrain and conditions.

I can't stand the way they did the skis this year.

Last year, they had the skis by brand name alphabetically with a picture, price, website, name, and a blurb or something about how the ski performs, plus the rating,

This year, 90% of the content is gone... it leaves me questioning about the skis i would like to buy. there are only blurbs about the "high rated ones" and lower rated ones only have a picture... and stoke.

and as the guy said above^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^, magazine ratings aren't that good of a basis for why or if you should buy the skis.
