before any of you say anything..please click the link and read up about this old abandoned resort. and keep in mind the statistics of pa.

current highest skiable vertical in pa ---1072 (Altoona, Pa)

Potential Highest mountain..this mountain at 14320 or something..could be biggest in pa and southern new york..lots of land to expand on Ie: cabins for winter, summer activities for extra revenue...

Water resources--Juniata river that flows directly across the road at the base..

we took a trip up there some friends and i and talked to some land owners..a hostile amish man owns most of the land..about 4-5 people own an acre each at the bottom of the mountain..with the right amount of money we think they would sell..especially the amish man..

heres our plan so far..were going to create a business plan, a very in depth plan concentrating on the advantages and disadvantages of the mountain.. advantages outweigh..the owner i have for my current job now is the man we will give the plan to..he is one of our only chances right now but as time goes on its a possibility with others..

any help would be great..what do you all think..im at work now so this is not as in depth as i would like but spit out your thoughts good or bad..but try to keep them resonable

I have don't any experience for this kind of situation. But my thoughts are swirling! I think it's amazing that you are considering this. Like Mike said above, it's a dream to own your own resort. It sounds like a lot of the things work in your favor. #1 being the vert - a lot of EC mountains don't have much for vert. My mtn is 1402 I believe. Secondly is the water supply, for EC mountains need snowmaking as well. My mtn is 95% snowmaking.

I love the pictures they give of the mtn. It's right near a highway, perfectly visible to public. To me, it just seems like a great idea. No one wants to see a resort die. What other mountains are close by...if any? This would also give local kids something to do. Ahhh haha I think this is a great idea man! I'm so pumped for you! Keep this thread going with updates. I wish you the best!

There has been talk about that hill by many people. The problem to reopening it no ticket sales. Figure a couple lifts an some snowmaking ponds, pumps and pipes and simple trailers for lodges and ticket windows, patrol and ski school. Guess what? You need a sewage treatment system!!

I heard someone peg it at 20million bare minimum in improvements. 5 million guestimate for the purchase of the land. Rough round guess - 2.5 million annual payments just for the loan. Employees to run it!!!! How many? 100,200,400? lets say 200 at 20k annual.. Fuel, electric. another million.

Do the math and figure out how many $50tickets you need to sell in a season to repay 7.5m in costs the first year.

It doesn't work :o(

Comparables:

Swain is for sale - 3.5m if my memory serves me right.

JFBB - (2 resorts) 5m plus 5m in upgrades

Montage sold for 5m and 24m in improvements, mostly towards a water park.

Camelback sold for 24m - they have 250k ticket sales.

uh yep.. to make matters worse...................

"Just a heads up on Ski Snowpeak, I am pretty sure that the community that it is located in is "dry". NOt that its the end of the world, just can make it difficult to run a lodge. The community that the upper portion of the slopes would be in is not dry. My family and I had interest in this place in the mid 90's and decided against it because of the capital investment necessary to get it back up and running. Don't forget about the potential problems with the withdrawl permit from the river."

Case in point: Laurel Mountain Ski Resort

at 900 vert it has terrain that embarrasses seven springs and could be expanded beyond belief, but they just couldnt make enough $ quick enough to keep it open
