Worst trend in skiing

What do you believe the worst skiing trend of all time is? Could be company wise or consumer habits. Anything in skiing.

Not a large trend, but every year right after the x games there is a trend of kids wearing their googles backwards over their helmets like Henrik. Consistent every year.

Greenwashing.

Loaded yuppies virtue signaling about sustainability while consuming far more than a majority of humans on the planet make the roof of my mouth itch in a way only a pistol can scratch.

Kids who don't learn how to "ski" before skiing in the park.

Maybe I sound old, but I really think you should be able to ski all over the MTN, and do it well, before you start hucking yourself around the park. Have a feeling I might be one of few thinking this though.

Tight pants. And no poles.

for a few yrs i went without poles but i gradually slid back into using poles again bc its honestly more natural for your hands to have something of weight attached to them because your skis weigh a shitload and without poles its pretty unbalanced. I like poles that arent too light either. Scott jibbing poles are usually pretty dope.

I know what you mean. I mean, Tanner and some other pros already said it.

But in my opinion, not everyone libes near the Mountains and Snow and have the chance to ski all season long.

For myself i have to say, that i live in a very flat area no snow in the winter.

Only going once a year to Austria to ski for one week... So it's the only week to ski and to progress.

I want to have fun in the park and nothing else...

If you just stay in the park you won't progress as a skier. Kinda hard to learn corks if you cant even carve. Also going once a year you won't really progress past an intermediate stage. Get your ass to the mountains more!

this. IMO If you go on more than one ski trip a season that requires an airplane, you should probably shut the fuck up about sustainability.

Not being nice to people when you're skiing and being negative on the hill. No one gives a fuck that you can ski if you're an asshole about it

Blows my mind that people develop egos because they’re really good at extreme standing.

Fuck that noise, i wax with LF every time!

I remember when I joined CUFST there was this kid from the East Coast that could throw down in the park but literally did not know how to ski. He could get through the park but could not even carve down a blue run. He was a really chill dude and was straight up about it and he actually caught up really quick and got decent at moguls but it was kind of crazy to see someone throw Cork 5s etc but then to barely be able to make it off the groomers anywhere.

To the OP- Bullet Holes with dripping blood stickers on your helmet. Way back even before the thug era the park guys would all rock Burton jackets with army green Giro Bad Lieutenant helmets with like 3 random bullet hole stickers with blood dripping down. Metal Spikes was a plus as well. It was cool at first but got really old after a season.

Rising ticket prices. I know, I know, it is part of life but a Benjamin to ski for a day?

the cost and barrier to entry for our sports that we love has got to be addressed along with many other issues that prevent others from wanting to enjoy wintersports. imo keeping the ski industry alive relies on making it more welcoming, the current model has failed us and doesnt work anymore, and only benefits those who keep it how it is while everything else goes to shit. as long as they stay paid, who cares right?

Toxicity is a trend in skiing thats gotta go. This goes for locals and tourists. Bumping chairs every day and drinking every night doesnt make you cool nor does being on vacation so drop the fuckin attitudes and the "us vs. them" bullshit and just start getting along with people more out there.

People who say "Maa G" and think they're gangster but are actually complete pussies irl.

Prime examples:

That one tik tok of the fagan brothers where one ejects a ski on takeoff and he says "you good gangster"

14 year olds on Henriks youtube comments

I think GANGSTER HOODRAT ski culture is the most retarded thing of all time. Stfu you are rich little white boy doing stunts at a ski resort.

I was under the impression it was a just a meme since dollo says it a hilarious amount, especially "BOOST MA G"

I sincerely hope kids aren't saying this unironically to each other

fagans

The "don't come here it's awful" "go to Vail I heard it's great" "stop talking about X mountain we don't want you here"

It's not yours, you probably have lived there for 3 months, people coming to "your" ski town is how it exists in the first place and your not a local.

On that note, locals being dicks is old for the same reason as above.

I'm not a big fan of kids that all they watch is games of slvsh. Skiing is much more than doing every trick in every direction

Couldn’t agree more, suburban white kids who grew up skiing on mommy and daddy’s dime talking and dressing like they’re straight outta the projects. Extremely cringey and embarrassing imo

i was guilty of this at some point

People who ski outside the park without poles, especially pow. I just want to shake them, there's literally not a worse sight in skiing

The fact that theres trends in freestyle skiing in the first place make me cringe my teeth off.

Oakley goggles under a smith helmet is about as original as wearing a fluorecent poc helmet to a race.

More importantly, what about skiers who wear their goggles OVER their helmet huh, I mean who started that one??

Leaving pro skier in your gram bio after being dropped by MDV, Oakley, Douchebags, US team, etc., and never being actually paid to ski like the definition of professional says. If you catch my drift

Worst trend right now has to be internet negativity between skiers and "style". Whether it shitting on swerve skiers, bagging on park rats, or hating on the return of Dunmont and his style, its just a waste of breath. A lot of ski content is free, and if you have a problem with a Bunch edit or the way Jake Carney hucks to flat then go watch something else, no one cares about what you hate about it. Just go fucking ski and have a blast.

Probably the overarching trends of sexism, racism and exclusion that action sports popular with rich white folk promote.

Be the change!

The strap hurts my ears if I wear them under ?

- more than 1 swap on a rail

- kids trying to sell their used gear for almost retail

- K-feds

- unironic track pants

- the goggle effect

- rising ticket prices

- saga skittle suits

- ugly fits

just naming a few
