Worst someone can be and still get sponsored

What's with all you guys and sponsors? I'm not good enough by any means to deserve a sponsor, but it seems like kids only ski to get sponsored. Personally I would never take a sponsorship from a ski company unless they made my favorite skis to ride (ON3P). Sure it may be cool to say you have a sponsor, trust me I think it'd be cool to be able to say that as well but when it comes down to it i would rather be having fun cruising on my favorite gear than to be riding terrible gear that I hate.

Ps: what's all the hate on Perron for? Sure he doesn't have any huge tricks but he has a super unique style and makes all of his tricks look pretty good.
 
Because skiing is expensive, and if your skills and attitude gain you the ability to get free gear, discounts in resorts and a travel budget, I'd say it's not a bad call.

In the case that someone is low on money I'd agree with you. However, I do think many of the people on here trying to get sponsors are 12 year olds who would like to say they have sponsors.
 
You can be the most respectable, nicest best skier in the world, but if you dont market yourself and get your name out you done.
 
i don't think age has any single reference on the fact that skiing is expensive. Someone is paying for it, if not the youngins' by themselves, then their parents, doesn't make it any cheaper.
 
Well it's not so much your name as your sponsors name.

If you win a competition, but don't recognize your sponsor once over the course of qualifiers, interviews, etc. you are pretty much worthless.

So yeah you're basically correct.
 
You mean like putting up your ski, taking a swig of a Monster can filled with water etc.? I don't think I've ever heard any athlete start highlighting their sponsors' amazing products in any comp interviews, but if you have some examples please share.
 
It might not necessarily apply to skiing, but usually in things like bike races, formal skate contests, and usually surf contests. When a rider is introduced, the announce will read off his sponsors.

I'm too lazy to get examples, but I'm sure you might have heard an athlete maybe thanking his sponsors in an interview or just generally showing them off like you said.

if you live at a small hill and your the best at the mountain, they might pay you or give you some special treatment or some stuff like that...
 
Charles Gagnier doesn't have a ski sponsor after Salomon dropped him. I'd be willing to bet he's the best their is without one. (unless he's been picked up recently)
 
Apparantly all you have to do to ride for Elan these days is have dreadlocks, do half-assed presses and "blunt" slides (which in this case means barely tipping your noses while sliding on your heels), sketchy 450s and no jump tricks whatsoever except a carving no grab 360 that is not corked in any way shape or form.
