Worst skis

K2 Poacher. I know they have a cult following and are known to be durable but they feel heavy and lifeless. I don't hate the ski but they just feel boring imo

got a few skis. Tried out a ton of dps and didn't find one that skied well. Took out a pair of Zai for a day felt like I was skiing on cheap rentals but with a price tag of $7,000. Honestly couldn't believe how bad those skis were for that much money. Took them back, said these are trash and everyone at the shop that skied them all said yup they are.

Dude were they the ones with the stone topsheet??

After 2 or 3 full length detunes on the edges, I figured I may have had something else weird going on. Would "edge high" be the same as a concave base tune? I started to wonder if this was the issue I had, a bad factory base tune

yo. get it tuned. I bought a pair of new Jeffs and they were so mad scary to ski, detuned tip and tail but the tails would hold you in a turn so long youd fear for your life. throw em sideways and underfoot they would bite so hard youd go forward. one tune made me actually trust em again. my buddys wets were like that too. its just being edge high or something

Next on my list of things to do before I ski them again, thanks. I would describe it as the same way, mad scary when they lock in. Especially going mach 10 switch

My new pair of jeffs are doing the same thing. One day on them, felt like I was just learning how to ski again. Detuned the tips, hopefully that allows me to actually engage a turn. Granted my only day on them was icy with only groomers open, but i still have a queasy feeling in my stomach that i dropped close to a grand on skis that i cant stand to ski. Loved my old Kartels, hopefully i get this tuning issue sorted. Reached out to on3p as well last week with no response. [tag=104013]@ON3P[/tag]

yep. I was thinking the same thing, had my shop buddy roll out of em to make sure I wasn't like being a beater or something. He came back scared and sent em straight for a tune. Ski waaaay better now and super fun.

update to this- just got an incredibly detailed response. ON3P continue to take Ws with customer service.

What was their response, id be interested to know.

"Personal preference on edge tune, both underfoot and beyond contact points, tends to vary pretty widely between individuals. Since it sounds as though you're working with a nearly new pair, best advice would be to continue to dial-in your own detune progressively - throw the gummi in your pocket and bring it up next time you ski. Dial in from there in 5 or so pass groups, concentrating on the contact areas that feel hooky or washy, and play with a few passes until they start to feel good.

The edges will naturally detune with a bit more use too, so aside from gummi adjustments, more time on-snow should help as well. If they continue to feel "off" past 5-6 days or so, next order of operations would be to reset base bevel to 1, and move through progressive detune process mentioned above.

In cases where customers are looking to modify their factory tune after the first few days, more often than not it tends to be more gummi work due to feeling too sharp, rather than looking to sharpen. In infrequent instances where individuals do look to go sharper, our standard 1.5:1 bevel is a solid starting point from which one can adjust to other bevels too.

We see sometimes with newer skis, it tends to be an issue of being too sharp (which counterintuitively, can cause wash), so overall would suspect that to be the case here. We find that our current detune level takes 2-3 days for the snow to naturally detune, so it isn't atypical for edges to require a bit of personal adjustment to get to comfort zone during first few days on hill, particularly in a rather "firm" snow year for most of the country (hopefully that improves soon too!)"

Pretty much echoes what advice i had read on NS, and the advice I got from friends. I already detuned the tips a bit, and im sure a couple more days on firm snow they will start feeling fine. FWIW, I also mounted mine a little forward, which in my experience can sometimes lead to hooky turns.

yeah there really aren't many objectively bad skis out there these days. but there are so many different types of skis these days that there are def skis that you won't click with at all. i fucking H A T E riding JJs for instance, 5 point skis can get fucked as far as i'm concerned, but it's a super popular ski

durability, or just straight up stupid shit like the afterbang's skateboard construction, are likely the only objective bad characteristics on some skis these days

The first 5-point version of the JJ is top of my list of skis I've hated too. I agree with the final point too, most skis are pretty good these days. There isn't a ski I've tried in the past few seasons that was objectively terrible, except for maybe durability-wise. Some cheaper park skis are pretty terrible for anything other than park too.

The line blade is a stupid concept. If you want to do slalom turns just get a slalom ski. If you want to ski pow get a fat ski. The line blade is just a really wide slalom ski, it only wants to do slalom turns and isn’t surfy or playful like a pow ski but isn’t quick edge to edge like a real carving ski

I agree its a bad ski but a good concept. It wants to be a carving ski but is just way too soft and floppy to rip.

I have the Deviation Radian now and I love it for hardpack. It rides like an all-mountain race ski, stiff asf, and can make both SL and GS turns well. and has just enough freestyle in it to rip sidehits

I thought the ON3P standard was 1 degree on the side and 1 degree on the base. Did that change, or is Iggy just presenting an alternative here?

K2 Domain back in the day was the ski I never clicked with. They used the cheapest base material, ski slided incredibly bad. Also the tips and tails where stupidly soft, they folded with the most little pressure applied

I had the deviation mode 112 from a few years back. Didn’t like the shape and profile but I loved the core and flex. They really have a winner with that core and sidewall.

Yes it’s 1/1 from everything I’ve seen aka a true 90 degree angle

What didn't you like about the mode 112? I'm interested in it as a backcountry ski with some kingpins

I had the V1.0 so they changed the shape a lot since. I felt the shape pushed me too far forward with a too aggressive tail. I had to ski too backseat to not get bucked over handlebars but the tail punished backseat skiing.

Overall I’m really impressed with their skis. Just didn’t like that shape. The fit and finish of their skis is amazing and they’re super accessible if you have any questions. I called a number listed on Google to ask about mount point and I’m pretty sure it was the owner. He went super in depth with me.

I'm impressed too, Deviation has the best ski construction imo
