Taos has some of the best terrain I've ever skiied and cool vibes from other skiers but big thumbs down to the ownership and FWT qualifiers keeping Kachina closed for 5 days. I'd be pissed if I had a pass here for 2 grand and they pulled that. Everyone working at the hill is on a crazy power trip.

The owner and like 20 of his friends closed it for themselves last Saturday when there was fresh snow and this week its been closed for a FWT qualifier. Every run I saw was super lame until the one where the guy fucked himself up bad and almost died. He was doing such a sick run noone else went far skiiers left into the rock pile he did and then for some dumb reason threw a 3 into a rocky tight chute.

I've always had the main FWT on the highest of pedestals and the pinnacle of competitive sports and had no clue this was going on so was annoyed when the lift was comp only. I did poach twice successfully but I almost got my pass pulled the third time.

Pretty much the entirety of this rant is incorrect. My Taos pass costs less than a grand, most of those 5 days Kachina was closed for avalanche mitigation not the comp, damn near half the competition took the skiers left line into the same rocky chute in the Dahl-Bredines, and you deserve getting your pass pulled for poaching a comp venue. I at least agree that the new owner sucks though

Honestly this thread brought out the bitterness in me, I’m sure half the skiers on the mountain hate people like us too. In the end we all just like to ski, just differently

the really sick shredders are either in the comps and winning or just don't care that much about them to begin with. I think Max Meza could easily knock out most of the competition on the FWQ but just loves to ski instead of traveling around spending tons of money on comps.

Yeah for the most part anyone who is actually a good skier at Alta and lcc in general is pretty humble and minds their own business. It's the underlying attitude of "only serious skiers deserve to ski Alta" that creates the problems and makes people who move there act like it's an exclusive club. One time some 30 year old man chirped something stupid at me then skied up to make intimidating eye contact and act all tough, before pizza skiing his way down some moguls. Another time I saw a lifty make fun of a mother and her 2 small kids to her face because they had a hard time getting onto a lift. And so many times I've seen random guys harass others into fitting 4 people on chairs even when there are less than 10 people in the entire lift line. It's just so sad to see these people buy a season pass then immediately forget how to be a decent human
