Worst Midwest ski resort

Marquette mountain currently features a flat box a down bar and a 45 foot stepdown. They have made no effort to set a park and it is almost february...

Welch Village. You'll get tetanus from the rails, and if you're looking for jumps, the lips to down rails serve that purpose.

I am from the midwest with Raging Buffalo as home mountain. Any other resorts that would be worse.

RB isn't even the worst in the Chicago area. try 4 lakes or Villa Olivia

The hills in the Midwest can be pretty ghetto, but I have so many memories around here. Falling off of a chair at Big Powderhorn, Severe concussion at Granite Peak after I ran into a snow gun, Losing my ski in the Powder at Bohemia...good times. It's honestly going to be hard to leave for college in a couple years.

there are a lot of crappy midwest places.

i think the worst place would be lacrosse or coffee mill.

I say this because welch used to be good, and I like to think of it that way.

Those sound like some pretty shitty memories to me.

Yeah there's a lotta of awesome skiers from Welch. I talked to some kids from there the other day and they were saying its just gettin worse every year. So many good edits came outta there too. Pretty sad to hear.

I would probably say keystone or Breck. A51 and freeway are all magic carpet rides to the top. By the way the top is 55 ft in elevation.

The park crew at wilmont is pretty much a bunch of blind monkeys but that sucks raging buffalo as your home "mtn" vowed never to go there after hearing horror stories about that place.

Actually I take this back. Boston Mills Brandywine has been absolutely pathetic this year.

this, i made the trip to bmbw for TAFT this year and was not impressed with their setup

I can confirm both of these since I live directly inbetween them. Mt. la crosse has more jumps and better rails but they don't have their full setup up until like halfway through January which sucks. Coffee Mill has crap rails but they usually have a halfway decent jump at the bottom. I go to Coffee Mill mostly right now because the season is longer but I might be switching.

Agreed. I haven't been there yet but some friends have told me that it sucks. Boston Mills hasn't been too bad for carving and all that stuff but everyone here probably doesn't like that.

management is so stupid there. hey management, ever heard of a groomer?

how can I expect to take my family out for a nice day of skiing in the middle of nowhere?

the snow swallows up my kids and there's all those darn trees in the way too. bohemia sucks.

I take that back, Mt. la crosse has a much bigger jump this year

Anything south of traverse city in MI sucks balls. I drive 3 hours north past a handful of places to ski at places that are still only half ass. With the exception of Nubs and Highlands, lower MI resorts pretty much blow.

The farther south you go, the more they blow. Just like women!

It's terrible up there. All it ever does is snow.

If you are referring to park skiing, than you have it all backwards. If you are referring to "real skiing", then Michigan just isn't a good spot to be in general (aside from Bohemia).

How are people bitching on Coffee Mill & Mount Lacrosse? Absence of a dialed park doesn't mean the rest of the hill blows... I'd rate Coffee Mill right behind Lutsen, Giant's Ridge, and Spirit... it's got a lot of shit going on for the limited number of runs.. not to mention the righteous vibe it's got going on. It's the longest & steepest South of Duluth... I guess I'd have it tied with Troll, maybe giving Troll the slight edge b/c it's got a fucking dialed park almost all the time (and a longer season)

I'd rate Afton slightly below Coffee Mill (because of the ruthless intersections & high gaper concentration), and tied with Mt. Lacrosse (unless it's icy, which apparently that hill normally is.) The cities hills all have rad parks but nothing to speak of if you want to cruise around & take shit to more natural features. Buck is rad because it's got a pipe & super cheap morning passes, Hyland & Elm Creek are like skateparks on snow, which is awesome.

Welch fucking blows. It fails vibe-wise, park-wise, and it's got boring runs. The shittiest place in the midwest has got to be some bumfuck spot in Iowa or Nebraska or South Dakota or something. Most of the people in this thread are tripping.

For a hill that park is honestly a joke but it is still so fucking good ski whitecap Takes the bread so many cliffs to huck

I would have to say alpine valley in Ohio is the worst. It is managed by bmbw staff but has the smallest park. Although it turned a blue run into a jump line. They also never run the chairlift for the park. However alpine valley guests get into bmbw and vice versa. These are my home resorts and the snow consists of a very fine powder on top of a giant block of ice.

My snowboard buddy grew up riding raging buffalo and he is one of the sicker boarders out here at Jackson. Riding shitty icy snow and having the balls to throw down will make you a lot better of a rider.

The whole point of bohemia is ungroomed backcountry like terrain. not every ski hill has to have a terrain park. and there doesn't have to be super easy beginner terrain everywhere. it says EXPERTS ONLY for a reason.

I was skiing mt la crosse this weekend and I can honestly say that it is nowhere near the worst. Park was amazing, snow was amazing, everything was far above average
