Worst experience with another skier

What’s everyone’s worst experience with another skier or skiers? It could also be worse experience skiing in general.

Mine would probably be when I was skiing alone one day and headed to the park and ran into 10 or so guys and one was looking to pick a fight. Threw snowballs, followed me around, said stuff. Needless to say I got out of there quickly. Now that really isn’t a terrible experience but it’s still probably the worst experience I’ve had skiing.

Today, on stories which never happened...

Don't think I've ever had a bad experience with another skier so far thankfully, I've definitely been cut off a few times and probably cut a few people off myself but other than that it's been smooth sailing. The worst thing that's happened probably is kids knocking snow off their skis onto me from the lift but thats also kind of funny

Earlier this year my friend who snowboards accidentally knocked a kid into a lift tower, because the kids mom cut him off so he couldn't stop without turning into the kid, so he then pushed the kid to make him not hit the polebut couldn't get him far enough. He also hit the pole but then the mother started freaking the fuck out at him even though it was her fault, also she was skiing like 6 wide across the trail with her kids behind her. We made sure the kid was okay and pulled him up and attempted to apologise, but the mother started swearing at us infront of her 7 year old son, and made him cry. So we left. Not the best time I've ever had on skis.

I'd say my worst experiences have been watching crashes where you know someone just got royally fucked up. 2 years ago we watched some guy backflip and 3/4s the wave to the moon and wasn't moving. Ski patrol had to cart him down. That's scary shit.

I was with some snowboarders that were kinda chubby and middle aged on a quad up at Jay by myself talking about how they were just looking to get in a fight with a skier. I took a few low key jabs to jiggle there fat rolls on the way up and skied off. Never quite understood that mentality as long as someones not about to injure me or fight then I got no problems. To much animosity between skiers and snowboarders.

Rode up the lift with some dude associated with nightmare snowboards. Making small talk, I jokingly say 'screw this I'd rather be at work' without missing a beat the dude goes off on a tangent about how he IS at work testing his snowboard.

I was genuinely curious about the board and asked him what's rad about the board and he just mocks me for saying rad and berates me for not knowing some snowboard shaper dude without providing anything positive about the board he's repping.

He then goes off on a completely different tangent, on how skiers never treated boarders right and in comps the skier judges don't know anything about snowboarding. Like the dude's mad heated at this point and straight up says the industry needs to be segregated.

He was with some chick who tried to calm him down multiple times and take the conversation elsewhere, she seemed very embarrassed about the whole ordeal. Dude just had to melt down out of nowhere. I was vibin' hard when I got on the chair but when I got off I was super mindfucked.

Anyways, fuck nightmare snowboards hope they go under.

Spring 2012 I was taking some laps before class with one of my roommates at Wachusett. We were coming down 10th when my buddy and an elderly lady crashed into each other. He was skiers left and she was skiers right. They both turned in at the same time and didn’t see each other. He’s a snowboarder and ended up with his back facing downhill. Her ski got caught under his board so when he fell back she fell over him. Her leg broke in the fall. It’s a small mountain so he went down to get ski patrol while I stayed with her and made sure no one else ran her over. I don’t blame her for being upset but the entire time I was with her she was nasty. Called me every name in the book. They got her down and took her away in an ambulance. Three months later he was notified that she filed a lawsuit and the whole process took three years before they finally settled for just under $20k. Still upset that they settled because if it went all the way to court I don’t think she would have won.

Jesus christ this is a nightmare story.

When I was 18 I had some random lady try to get ski patrol to take my pass for skiing switch down an open run. Once she found out I worked at the mountain and was off the clock she then went to the gm and tried to get me fired for being reckless. Never said a word to her nor do I know who she was. Some people are just miserable.

I was night skiing and some of my buddies were on the chair in front of me and we screwing around and one of them fell off of the chair. He was fine but it was scary.

Some dude post holing in a skin track, I very non confrontationally mentioned that it’s kinda shitty to do that. The dude freaked out and told me how local he is and proceeded to say that he does it all the time. I just said you’re wrong and kept skinning, he started trying to run after me super aggro and just sunk into the snow until he gave up.

When I was younger and skiing at my home mountain my cousin threw a snowball off the lift and it hit me square in the face while i was skiing down. Hit me so hard it cracked my goggle lens and gave me a bloody nose. I wasn’t expecting it and it knocked me on my ass. It felt like i got hit in the face with some sort of boulder. Not cool but just glad it didn’t break my nose.

Good snow and Sluschmans lift at Bridger bowl always brings out the worst in people, had a lot of skiers (mostly fuckin grown ass adults!) flip shit on you if you aren't riding the ass of whoever is in front of you in line, or if you beat your buddy down and he hops in line with you (chair only holds 2) and dudes will TWEAK.

I hopped in line one day and my buddy joined me a minute later and this old dude behind us starts yelling at us that we're budging and if we didn't get out of line he'd call ski patrol and have our passes clipped. Now remember the chair only holds 2 so he would have been waiting the same amount of time regardless if my buddy joined me in line. We were at the back of the line and it was gonna be a 25+ minute wait anyway so we weren't tripping, but this dude would not chill and started talking about fighting and shit so we literally turn around and offer to let him pass us in line to shut him up. He passes us with his friend and we spent the rest of the wait heckling him, told him I hoped his pow turns were worth it and then went on with my day.

In all honesty, it's common courtesy to wait for your entire group before getting in line, even if it is just 1 other person.

Digging through the resin stained memory books.

At my home MTN (Anthony lakes). One powder day. I have one hour before lessons start. So I go up to the lift and there is a few people there and the first chair only has two so I make my way up to the front. We wait. And they let people on. As soon as I sit down. The guy next to me goes."you know what you just did pissed a lot of people off". Me. "excuse me"??? Guy" what you did you have to wait". It's a triple chair and it's a powder day. I retort. And then he proceeded go on a rant how us "out of towners are ruining his little hill. I kind of give him a blank stare. And say. "Well i work here and I only get so much free time and yeah I'm gonna go for an empty seat, sorry you feel this way". And the rest of the chair ride was silent......

Got pulled over by the Mt hood meadows yello jackets when I was a kid in the family friendly area. My buddy an I were working on our turns. When we get busted BIG time. This guy says "you are turning too much and intimidating the younger skiers".... I go to clap back and three more yellow jackets show up. And have this whole story of us "turning too much". They were all Soo pissed. Then they just let us go. I was like 12 with my buddy. I'm still befuddled by it

I was riding Revelstoke in March and was traversing to Gracia's Ridge from the Stoke Chair. Unfortunately was stuck behind a snowboarding jerry going super slow at a steep compression point in the traverse where you had to keep your speed. She made it past the uphill point but fell over after in a blind spot. I didn't see her since she fell in the blind spot and I was whipping bricks and ran into her bitch ass and ended up ramming my skis into her and got them tangled. Lost a ski and ended up skiing switch on one foot down a double black about 100 feet because of her. Thought I tore my ACL. I was so mad.

Oh look its ankilla when whole foods runs out of watermelon or someone mentions obama

Had a guy scream "fuck you quit cutting me off," from behind me, otherwise I would have had no idea he was there (downhill skier having right of way and all that.) When I stopped and told him I had right of way, he skied straight into me and hockey checked me into the ground. My buddy who saw tried to fight him at the bottom, but I told him it wasn't worth it and we reported it to ski patrol.

Fast forward a year and the same dude tries to get on the lift with us, when there's no line. I realize who it is and tell him to wait a chair because I didn't want to ride with him. Apparently he got bent out of shape, because when he saw me at the bar at the end of the day he waited in the parking lot for me to leave. When I was walking to my car he confronted me and punched me in the ear, breaking my sunglasses. Now I'm skinny but I'm still 6'3 185lb, and this dude is like 5'7 maybe 160lbs tops, so it wasn't too hard to get him in a headlock, drop my weight, and just hold him there until someone broke it up, but he did try to hit me in the balls while i held him down. When it got broken up he starts screaming "you better get the fuck out of Alta if you know whats good for you, ill be here long after you!"

By now there was a crowd, at least 5 or more had seen him initiate both the verbal and physical fight, and even more were watching him threaten me. Turns out this guy had a lot of similar incidents that alta locals were aware of. Long story short, he ended up getting banned from the entire town Alta for a few years. Only fight I've been in since the second grade, and the sheer pettiness and absurdity of it still amaze me.

Jeez, similar thing happened to me when i was 13. My buddy and I were getting in line and this guy slide up beside me and he is smoking a joint. Where I'm you aren't allowed to smoke weed but the Lifties are chill and didn't say anything. I have nothing against weed nowadays, but i was 13 and my friend was 12 so its pretty uncool to do that next to us. We were about to get on the chair and my friend and I stayed behind, so he got on the chair ahead of us.

On the chair he turned around and started yelling at us. We got off the chair and he was following us around and screaming at us. My friends dad came to pick us up at the end of the day, and the guy followed us to the car, and was yelling at us and threatening to stab us. My friends dad punched him and he left

Did she say anything about it or what happened after the crash?

Hmm this one isn't a skier but a liftie at Copper was refusing to bump chairs on Sierra. He would just pretend to bump it but he wasn't actually doing it. The chair would just slam into the back of my knees every time and the worst part was the best skiing that day was off sierra. Now that I think about it, some of the worst experiences i've had on the mountain have involved lifties. I understand the job sucks and to be fair most lifties are chill but there definitely are some bad apples/people having a bad day.

I was on the chair with my buddy at a small resort called Nordic Valley back when we were like 13 or so. We saw a guy teaching his girlfriend to snowboard and my buddy decided to yell "I'm going to fuck your girlfriend!" like a dipshit. The guy heard him and proceeded to unstrap and run up the hill and meet us at the top. This particular chair moves very slow and he was able to beat us up to the top. As we're getting off the chair he starts yelling at me thinking I said it as my buddy skied off. I kind of ignored him and tried to just ski around him but this grown man grabbed the back of my jacket to stop me and made me ski down and apologize to his girlfriend. As soon as I got there, the girlfriend recognized that I wasn't the one who said it and got super upset with the boyfriend for the whole ordeal. After, I skied down to the bottom and couldn't find my buddy. Turns out he was hiding in his car in the parking lot.

That's fair, wasn't saying I was in the right but I was super taken aback by the dudes reaction- especially since he had to be at least 50 or 60. In the end I guess I could never imagine getting that rattled just waiting in a lift line, everyone has to wait the same amount of time and the snow will still be there.

Yea dude definitely overreacted it sounds.

At my local in MN, 95% of people in the park are snowboarders. Most beef has been snowboarders vs skiers (i.e. me and 3 friends as we were the only skiers in the park for a good 3 years that were there nearly every day).

I have had snowboarders shit on me literally just for skiing. I've heard some ridiculous insults. One time, a guy and his 2 friends followed me and my 2 homies around for nearly an hour, throwing snowballs and stuff at us and swearing/insulting us. No joke, one of his insults was "You guys must be sooo gay since your feet aren't strapped in. You're always just ready to spread your legs and take it up your ass." This specific insult just screams to me now how fucking stupid this guy was, but at 13-14 it was upsetting. After about an hour of these 3 guys chasing us, my friend Nic stopped at the lip of a jump and just let them catch up with us. He asked them what the hell their deal was. At one point Nic says to the main guy who was being the biggest asshole "do you just have major daddy issues or what?" One of the guy's friends goes "Hey man don't talk at his dad! You don't know what he has been through!" and the main bully snowboarder looked like he was about to cry. The next dad the main douchebag came and apologized to my friend Nic.

Another time, more recently, probably when I was 17, I had a snowboarder (who I am now friends with) hit a rail nearly at the same time as me. I was going up to the rail from the left lip, and this guy bombs in and goes into a front boardslide from the right side. On the rail, I grab this fucker's arm and just yank him off of it. Unfortunately, the guy didn't eat shit, but we both fell off of the rail. He just turned around and looked at me, all confused about why I would have done such a thing.

Damn guys, seems you got some of thoose internet troll bitches on the slopes.

Most sucky shit this season was wipeing out fucking wrist not to run over some kid coming jumping into the park from slopes out of control, then totally fucking it later ehh crashing into a tree. then corona... Ski touring with one wrist totally sucks.

I did have threatening shenanigans yelled from the lift at random, when I was waiting for him/his friends at park entrance ( this was like 300 feet from top of lift, and where park starts.. well yeah He was extremly apologetic saying it was just "just a joke"... I'm over average height and build, might have helped.

the whole snowboard beef shit seems to have died down as everyne has friends rideing both and.. well yeah, only snowboarders I hate on is the shitty ones that feel like makeing ice then piles on steeper sections.

I'm only aggressive when people cut in line, and OVER my skis, always seems to happen when you have box fresh skis, not your beatup old shit. Younger kids also kindsa seems to listen when I say cut the shit out, guess runnin twintips a lot doesnt hurt the argument and they see me ride park...

On positive side, so many awesome new skiers, had lunch and some apres with lots of new random friends, Learned some new tricks from kids this year, also helped a few along with their skills.

Idk in general I've had pretty good experiences. No major injuries so I won't count bumps or bruises. Most bad experiences have been with people being too douchey in the lift line or being let down by overpriced resorts. I've got two weak stories:

Mix of good and bad. Maybe 10 years ago we drove up to Vermont for New Years, first time ever too. Gonna ski Okemo first day. Super stoked cuz prior to this we thought Peek n Peak was the tits. To make it even better, it nukes overnight. I'm talking 18-24". So we wake up, learn that all the breakfast places are closed so decide to eat our leftovers which happened to consist of some fish and a baked potato. Oops no microwave in the room. We knew we had to get some energy so ate that shit cold. This will forever be my worst pre-ski food ever. The fish juices had soaked into the potato and everything smelled like fish. I gagged a few times it was so gross.... Fast-forward to skiing. We show up early, at a time when most wny ski resorts would open on holidays so didn't even think to check the operating hours. They weren't open for another 1.5hrs so we sit around doing nothing. So much for waking up early.... This was back when they offered half off student tickets so we got lift tickets for $40 each. Sweet. So now we are standing in line, pretty close so we would likely get 3rd or 4th chair. The spot we are standing in is in a convergence point so people have to alternate. So now when the lift started spinning, everyone is like shoppers on Black Friday pushing and shoving. The few people in front of us go, then when it is our turn, no one will let us in. Literally tried and people just rush up and block out path, ignoring us. This goes on for what seemed like forever. So now the folks behind us are getting antsy and us annoyed. I finally just stick my arm and skis out and cut these kids off. The kid begins to yell at me for cutting him off and how I need to wait my turn. Whelp that was my first taste of southern Vermont. Fuck you people from the city. Also skied the next day at Killington and everyone was a douche bag so learned my lesson there too. Don't ski southern resorts on holidays or weekends.

Second is also a mix of good and bad. My fault honestly. We were itching for one last ski day, especially a pow day. So April 1st is coming up and holy shit a huge storm is gonna wallop the east coast. I call my brother, and he says let's go. Vermont here we come. Checked the weather and Stowe was supposed to get the most; never been, heard it's great, so chose there (shoulda chose Smuggs). Lodging was cheap to book. I drive 3hrs home to my parents house to pick him up. We then drive all through the night. He started the drive so I tried to sleep but I was all paranoid about him driving my car. It was absolutely nuking out so we made the decision to enter through the top of Vermont rather than risking it driving through the Adirondacks with no reception and probably worse snow. After about 14 hours we arrive at Stowe. Roads have been doo doo but at least it's not dark anymore. The snow has stopped and it is an awesome day. Go to buy a ticket. "that'll be $129." excuse me what? I thought your website says $89? Nope. That's to reload the card. You have to be fucking me. Whatever I pay for the overpriced ticket. Place was packed. People were assholes. Took us forever to find somewhere to eat cuz their signs and hours were so confusing that day. The baskets on both my poles broke, but overall it was a good day. The pow turns only lasted for about an hour at best. First experience with Vail Resorts that has forever stained my perception of Stowe and any other vail operated resort.

Skied in rain and freezing rain. That was depressing.
