so yesterday my buddy mike and I headed over to whiteface for a day of skiing (little over 2 hr drive), took maybe 3 runs, 4th run comes around, i chuck an underflip off this booter, over rotate and pretty much take 170 lbs to my right wrist, snap it like a twig and go to first aid (11:20). the pain didnt rly set in for like 10 minutes and it was excrutiating. they wouldnt giv me any pain killers and i got the most bootleg sling ever. im driven over to the local hospital where they have me sit in the waiting room for like 20 minutes (its like 12:00 now without any sort of help) no progress is made so im like fuck this, hav no choice but to go back home (2 hr drive) and go to the hospital there. my wrist is honestly shaped like a fdf rail. we get home (2:30 now without any sort of painkiller) and i go to the hospital where im thrown into the waiting room for another hour WTF, im in soo much pain i nearly puke/pass out. its just about 4 now and i FINALLY get some novicane for my shattered wrist. the doc said i snapped the bone and then it was shoved back up my arm so shit is fucked up now. i hav surgery wednesday.

sparknotes: i shattered my wrist at like 11:20, had to sit around with it for 4 hours before i got any help, fuck you lake placid hospital. surgery wednesday, season overrrrrr

Sat in the ER waiting room with my dislocated shoulder hanging out for 3 hours, meaning my shoulder was dislocated for 4 hours total before I got back and was give a pain medication. Pain was absurd.

I've also been to the same hospital and was taken back the minute I walked through the door for the same shoulder injury. All depends on the timing.

Ive had to sit in the Emergency room, in a wet swimsuit, holding the little mermaid towel to my head, drenched with blood, till they finally gave me 12 stitches, 1.5 hours later.

All timing.

And if its something really bad, call an ambulance, because youll be immediately admitted

Same here, weird. Only I wasn't in the ER and I didn't know my shoulder was dislocated. I have a super high pain tolerance. So once I got to the DR it was like 6:30 and it happened at 3.

Not really a terrible injury or anything but while I sat in an almost-empty ER waiting to get stitches in my lip for like 4 hours.

The only other person in that place was the guy next to me who hit a tree and broke nine ribs, a clavical, and punctured a lung.

At least I wasn't him...

was the original er you went 2 a small one?

My buddy fell asleep driving us home from whiteface like 4 years ago and it was awful. they never called my paernts like I asked them 2, they only found out bc my gf at the time was 17 so they had to call her parents. Bc I was freshly turned 18 it was okay from them to not call.

First I layed in a stretcher for 3 hours bc they were taking care of my friend and I was left alone. They took care of him and he got a heli ride to VT. They came back and let me call my rents who were already on their way ( my gf rents called them) my chin was so cut open they couldnt stitch it. When my rents came they said I was fine and could leave.

I told them my collar bone was broke but they didnt believe me so after my dad bitched them out they took more x-rays and my shit so broke bad. I went home and 2 days later they called and said I had a rip in my spleen and I should go to the er right away. I was luckly fine and it started to heal but If i was hit the right way i could have died.

Worst experience of my life, was givin nothing for the pain

same here. I talked to the nurse at the check in and she asked "on a scale of 1-10 how much pain are you in right now?" I responded 8 or 9. "Well why dont you have a seat over there and wait 2 hours"

I tore my ACL in june, wasnt supposed to ski much at all this season, ended up hucking huge consistently instead of spinning.

earlier this february I nollied off the red bull feature at big bear going way too fast and dropped about 10-12 feet to backseat, and popped my meniscus OR another CL on top of the ACL.

haven't even seen a doctor since winter break, but surgeries this summer are going to SUCK. possibly out next season also.

you my friend are a pussy

the kid who ripped his spleen is hardcore

if your wrist was that big of a deal they would have seen you sooner, they probably were dealing with people that were worst of than you. plus you have two wrist so you couldnt have been all that bad with one broke

duh

burmer man, my uncle shattered his wrist, no joke, falling off a truck, his wrist is the size of a baseball, had 3 surgeries, or more, o and this happened 2 years ago. so what you have sucks but be thankful its not a shit ton worse

in the ER

they have to assess which patient is more critical...obviously your wrist was low on the totem pole partner

plus you got another one! so your not that bad off

many moons ago I cut my back open with my ski. I was to land switch, but I under rotated a bit causing me to lose my skis, have them roll down the landing as I fall backwards onto them, cutting my back with the edge.

Only - to me it just felt like some snow went up my jacket and I had the cold burning feeling so I never checked my back. this was probably around 4pm, ish. skied a bit more, drove home to grab some food than to a friends house to play video games. by the time I actually got home for good and changed out of my ski gear it was around 11pm. took my shirt off and noticed it was cut up and bloody. looked in the mirror and found out my back had a big cut in it. drove to the hospital and they gave me 9 stitches. They thought I was an idiot for not knowing my back was cut, I just thought it was funny.

I sat in a waiting room for 2 hours, and then another 45 minutes in the hospital room waiting for the doctor. WITH A FUCKING FISHING HOOK EMBEDDED IN MY LEG

I broke my wrist in the summer and waited 8 hours in the emergency, then another 2 hours in the little room waiting for the doctor.

boo hoo. your wrist will take two three months.
remember this is two seasons in a row... first season, skiing two feet of pow, friends cant hang, had to stay with them. first run threw park, straight air and case a jump by like three inches, hyper extend and blow my acl. Season over ( plus more, cause its not a wrist.)
second season, skiing take two laps, on third jump off a mogul sit when i go to stop on accident, BOOM acl and minicus. sit the rest of the day in the lodge, 11 to 4. another 6 months out.

moral of story. stop bitching. you have it easy. even my stories are easy compared to others.

eewwwww saggy vagina. I was talking with a couple of girls and they just starting talking about birthing and saggy vaginas.

Anyyyyyyways I had pink eye and went to the ER (in vail mind you) and only waited for an hour and a half

i got stabbed in the eye and had to wait in the er for 3 hours before receiving any sort of pain med. they didn't stitch me up until about 8:00 am when the specialist arrived - 6 hours later. i fucking hate emergency rooms.

well those all sound like freak accidents. These sound wayyyy painful. Ive sliced open my knee with my ski. Fell and lost both skis. bitched. got up and put my skis back on. started skiing and felt a cold trickle down my leg, thought it was snow. looked at my pants and notcied a cut...

didnt hurt a bit.
1207008070cut2.jpg

skied down and sat in ski patrol for 2 hours cause my parents were BC skiing. Finally my dad came down and drove me to the ER. Didnt hurt a bit. Got there and waited for an hour. got a lil pain killer spraid in there and stitched that bitch up. no pain no gain

The reason shit takes so long at the er is because our health care system is fucked. Anybody can show up at any time and treat it like a doctor's office because the hospitals are required to offer medical service.

women scientifically proven on average have a higher pain tolerance than men.

they give birth, we don't. end of story.

i broke my tibia and fibula , pretty much shattered one and twisted other. first i was taken in a sled to the ski patrol hut, then to my car where my dad drove me to the hospital and i had to wait there for like 4 hours. the ski patrol, all of us not knowing i broke my leg, told me i would be back on the hill tomorrow. well i was out for more than the season. im fraser macgillivray and this is my story

in aspen got a flu that wasnt covered byy my flu shot. so my throat was clogged by snot and i couldnt breathe, passed out threw up. took 5 minutes to get to the er and they had me outta there in 30 minutes. threw up once more and slipped in it, oops, and they were really nice. good expierience. very gnarly stories above though

honestly man fuck off, in addition to having to get surgery im a type 1 diabetic which just makes shit that much more difficult. the bone will take longer to heal. my life is far from easy.

sucks how true this is. going to okemo/wherever we choose to go in burlington for a few days and thats always fun, then jay the next week

Not only that, they go when they need meds and sometimes the homeless go when they just need a bed (they fake an injury to get the free treatment and FOOD). My fiancee tells me about it all the time, she works 48hrs a week in our ER.
Broke my nose doing some flips on a trampoline when I was younger (came down and hit my face on the metal bar). Waited 4.5 hrs for the doc to tell me he couldnt do anything because the airways weren't blocked.
But hey, at least your legs still work. Just get a cast and go carve up some groomers. Its better than sitting on the couch watching Revolver/The Way I See It/Eye Trip wishing you could get out on the mountain. Oh, and if you have therapy, DO IT.

did the same to my wrist, but i was just fucked around and fell on it literally looked like a fdf rail too, i was in by 930am out at 3pm, sat for 3 hours till they even saw me then another hour till they put me to sleep to put it back into place and cast it.
hospitals fucking suck

deepfried my hand (about 60% of it) in 450 degree cooking grease.... Waited for about an hour. Fortuneately Ski Patrol (I was working in a kitchen at a ski resort) gave me the last of some sort of chemical for burns, they didn't even know why they had it. Doctor said it saved the skin on my hand from pealing off. Never got a pain killer until after I was done with the doctor.
Otherwise I've never had to wait. But then again, I've only had head/kneck injuries which they tend to be quick to treat.

This is so wrong! ...and I lmao.

I guess at least the good news is that, after you have gutted out the pain waiting for hours, they will usually do a good job. It hasn't always been that way. I guess we all need to carry our own industrial strength pain killers around just in case. Alternative is to slit your own throat or shoot yourself in the waiting room so you get bumped up in line, so remember to carry razor blades or a gun and percocet in your backpack,
