World Tour is happening!

Just thought I would let you know that it is in the works, I did not think we were ready for it yet but I did a lot of thinking and decided that I think we can make it work.
As soon as I have more info on this I will let everyone know, but my goal is to have a World Tour with Qual tour in North America and Europe up and running by next fall.

And for those who think its bad to see pros on the top of Open events, think about it, I am sure its more fun for an AM to get 6th in a field with pros in it then to win an event with no pros in it.

If you cant compete against them, how can you beat them and become one of them??

BTW any ideas what the name of the Tour should be?

That is soooo sick and I am super stoked. Knowing how dope NAO was, I'm sure with you helping the entire tour will be dope. And I agree with you as far as pros competing.

As for names, how about the Freeski World Tour? or the International Freeskiing Tour, IFT for short.

That would really take skiing to the next level. Skiing is not only loved by freeskiers, but by millions, if not more. I live in steamboat/copenhagen, denmark and whenever skiing is mentioned in either place, there is nothing but love. A world tour like this would show the world how sick freeskiing really is....

i swear that freesking will overtake racing someday, just because it is so different and diverse.

You can get it done Jon. call it Worldwide Freeski Tour maybe?

The name should be something simple given the large scope of the event e.g.

World Series of Freeskiing

World Freeskiing Tour/Championship

Ski the Globe

jon i am just speechless as to what you have already accomplished this season. You put on the premiere and super informative video blog as well as organized multiple sick events. Best of all you have set a precedent for how interactive pros should be with your super impressive newschoolers browsing.

And yes it would be awesome to see you create a world tour. I think you should name it something rather normal like [Sponsor] World Freeskiing Tour. That way the general public will give it respect and prestige because personally i think the name X-games is gay. Normal people think of the X-games as a joke kinda with all the EXTREMENESS and the jeep, navy, edge, nowwhat.com, and holy shit, jumper ads. But just try to come up with an official sounding name. You could even make it sound european ( i know, i know).

WHAT EVER YOU DO, DO NOT CALL IT THE WORLD SERIES OF FREESKIING OR WORLDWIDE FREESKI TOUR, OR SKI THE GLOBE

No offense. I just think freeskiing could become a little more legitimate and for that we need a more legitimate name that isn't gimmicky.

haha didn't you just say:

"I think you should name it something rather normal like [Sponsor] World Freeskiing Tour"

Maybe like, as gay and french as it sounds,

Le tour de freeski internationale.

TFI for short.

Would sound good on ESPN and maybe the guys would pay some attention to it rather than the huge joke the xgames are on ESPN.

Wow jon your the man. Thanks for keeping us up to date!

And it should be World Freeskiing Tour. Short, simple and to the point.

or better yet,

International freeski association, IFA (IFSA)

Internation freeski federation IFF (IFSF)

idk i just think, personally speaking, a good name might get freeskiing into the olympics which is something i would like to see happen.

oh oh, i got one!! "THE K.A.T.(kick ass tour)" that sounds sick jon good job for pushing the competitive side of things..

call it what it really is: The World Tour of Engas Ski Sliding and Air Jumping and Stunt Taco Doing.

thats my first suggestion. second would be dont let the navy sponser it. thats all.

You never cease to amaze me.

World Series of Freeskiing is good.

Are you still gonna have the NAO next year?? It looked amazing from what I saw on the updates!

thats sick!!
for names i think they should be something simple and stereotypical or else the name will seem silly in a few years. so something like the world freesking tour or the Euromerica Freesking Tour.

Jon, you clearly have taken the helm of innovator for multiple facets of skiing and this is no different.

Name: either something generic like International Freeskiing Open or The TransAtlantic Open.

wow, im so stoked on this idea, i think its so amazingly cool that jon reads nsers picks up a great idea on how to expand out sport and runs with it. You are a man among men jon.

Why don't you just call it as it will be-The Nature Valley FIS AERIAL SHOOT OUT presented by Skiing Magazine .

We can even throw in Dane Cook, Will Ferrell, Alberto Tomba, and Boyd Easley for the broadcast team

World Tour of Freeskiing, WTF for short.

- "Lol, WTF is this?"

- "Yep"

- "????"

But for real, this is super dope Jon, I really hope it takes off and becomes a reality. Skiing's been having a huge year and has progressed a ton, and this is really the next big step we need to take. Dunno how close you guy are but you should talk to Tanner, I have a feeling he might be willing to support the halfpipe side of things, as well as Dumont. With unarguably the three biggest names in skiing backing it, theres no way it wouldn't take off. Imagine Tanner riding in a world tour for halfpipe, how amazing would that be.

it will only be cool if it will be something like the orage masters where there would be a "Team Championship" and rider championhip ..kind of like in racing.

If this was like a celebrity pro- am GS thing, i would applaud you Jon.

Sick sick idea, will be nuts.

I think it will be great if you run it like the surfing world tour. have the world tour and the qualifying tour as well so more and more ams get the chance to make it big. like the top 5 or so athletes of the qualifying tour get automatic entry into the world tour. you could have the qualifying tour following the world tour around so they would get to hit the same calibar of features as all the pros.

this way it would increase the depth in talent and get those unknowns exposed.

Also I would say keep the name professional sounding so the average joe would understand it, some like the world freeskiing tour or w/e

just my two cents

Wow thats epic. I can't wait to compete in this sometime in the next couple years, if I get in. Anyway we complain, Jon makes it happen. Jon you were put on this earth for a reason, the reason to help freeskiing in many ways Thanks Jon!

JON, if you want a successful world tour just copy and paste the one that already exists for surfing. it has been tried and tested over the past 3 decades and give everybody a chance to make it big. and it isnt a world tour if you only go to euro and usa. what about japan, new zealand and australia.

^ So true the WCT is so dope i like the World Freeski Tour (WFT), i think it would be great especially to get major companies on board to be event hosts much like how the WCT tour works.

Each stop should be a 4 day event, like each event of the PGA tour

thurs- Qualifying for say 3 open spots, there should be 22 other spots reserved for Pro "regulars" Plus Afternoon practice for slopestyle

fri- Practice for Super Pipe

sat- Practice for slopestyle

Sunday- Slopestyle and Super Pipe finals back to back.

Thats incredibly tough for competitors such as simon that are doing both. It needs to be split into 2 days.

And the summer in austraila/NZ sounds legit as hell

Yeah, there should be stops all over North America, Canada, then some in Europe such as Norway, France, Switzerland, and so on. Then there should be stops in Japan to end the northern hemisphere then it should go down under to New Zealand, Oz, Chile, and Argentina...

If you did 2 north american stops 3 Euro stops 1 asia stop 1 oz or NZ stop and one south america stop it would be legit. I think there should be atleast a stop in every continent. But your right, I don't really know where I am going with this Im kinda out of it...

what about south america and africa? haha.

na but all the realistic ones sounds nececery.

i had idea for the name but you wont like it jon, the international bored of ski racing...

aw cool that gets shortened to ibs-irritable bowel syndrome, good thing it wasn't gonna happen anyway.

First of all - I AM SO STOKED!!!!!

Now I've gotten that out... STICKY!!!!!!!

Right. Those were my first two thoughts.

Personally, I wouldn't really like a sponsor in front of then name (i.e. Suzuki International Freeski Tour)... but maybe that's just me. Unless of course, NS sponsored it (Newschoolers World Freeskiing Tour!!!)

It's great that someone's making this happen. It's great to have something organized. Like TahoeChappy mentioned Burton and his snowboarding idea - this is skiing and yours. First the NAO, now the tour!! I bet Simon will be backing it, I'm sure speaking to Tanner would be a pretty sweet idea - and there you go - 3 of the world's top skiers to get the ball rolling.

It'd be pretty sweet to have a governing body for freeskiing, with people who actually know the sport, unlike FIS, but I guess that will come afer. Mike Douglas is the only name which jumps to mind right now, perhaps JP Auclair and some of those older guys.

Anywawy - JON YOU DA MAN!!!!!!!!!

actually for the most part on here he's a man among small children...

anyway, YES JON!!! man, you are the guy that "gets shit done". awesome.

as for names it would probably have to be [sponsor] World Freeskiing Tour or something because you could get serious $$$ out of the title sponsor this way.

as for format, seriously a carbon copy of surfing's WCT would be ideal. there's no shame in copying a format that works so well. logistically, it would need to be co-ordinated so the events were geographically consecutive- so a north american leg, a european leg, asian leg, southern hem leg otherwise the guys wouldn't realistically afford to go to them all.

How about:

1] US Open

2] Canadian Open

3] European Open

4] Scandinavian Open

5] Nippon Open

6] NZ Open

and then 2 "floater" events on top that move to a new place each year and are invite only, again borrowing from rip curl's "the search"?

anyway, i'm sure it will be sick however you decide to do it. congrats for being the man!

Hahahhaha... yeah definitely with the internet nerd abbreviation.

Royal Open Tour Freeskiing League.

Seriously though I think keeping it simple is the way to go.
