Can’t even imagine the atmosphere from fed square when Australia got through. Shame they lost today but let’s be honest, it’s a great story for Australia.

Australia is in the same boat as the USA. Solid team that can advance in the groups but usually loses against the juggernauts of the sport. All the same, australia should be proud to have gone as far as they have.

it was completely packed out the other day. thousands of people there. after the goal the flares were so strong you couldnt see anything. lots of dancing and hugging randoms.

the big screen shut off for a few seconds in the minute between tunisia and us scoring. added to the tension

Mate... that would have been so sick to have been at... I used to take the 67 by there all the time and I couldn't even imagine how packed that place must have been.

Seriously unstoppable. Funny Spain are out too, rooting for Morocco to make the semis for sure

Can’t stop laughing thinking about that Hakimi penalty.

Born in Spain, raised in Madrid, asked to play for the Spanish national team and rejects it. Fast forward some years he’s standing in front of Spanish fans about to take a penalty to knock them out of the World Cup. Goes for the panenka and scores it, burying his home country, and then proceeds to not run and scream but smile and dance like a penguin. Such a legend lmfao I love hakimi dude

Brazil hate is insane to me, explain

nothing but love for brazil the country (just to be clear)

but the team is consistently theatrical prima donnas and some of the worst diving culprits. and those god awful stutter step/hopping/skipping/jumping/dancing/balking run-ups on PKs. i can't believe they're allowed. go up to the ball and shoot the damn thing

i love soccer and hate the diving culture so you can count on me rooting against those teams

They do get fouled, and the only way to get the call is to be theatrical because of poor reffing. Same as basketball, it’s not the players fault, if they don’t act like they’re dying they will never get correct calls.

Brazil is the tekker-ist country ever so I’m also biased af cuz I love the skillz lol

Maybe reffing shouldn't be poor? Last time I saw someone take a dive in hockey they got an embellishment call

Yeah, Brazil 20 years ago was not the drama queen neymar bullshit it is now.

holy shit argentina deserves that.

playing dirty as fuck and playing like shit the last 20 minutes of regular.

yeah i have due respect for their skills and love watching them play, i love all the different countries' play styles. but i can't get behind the histrionics, it's not my bag. i play soccer, i know why it exists, but i consider the theatrics dishonorable in most cases

I thought hockey was a contact sport though, are there fouls for that stuff? I barely know hockey at all lol

Of course. But there's intricacies like you can't slew foot, cross check, slash with your stick, high stick, target the head, etc. If you fake getting high sticked in the face for example to try to draw a penalty, or fall and act hurt for a rather mundane, legal body check like your head was targeted, you can get an embellishment penalty.

May be harder to police for a non contact sport but man, soccer really takes it over the line

The playing area in hockey is also a LOT smaller with fewer players, and there are more referees right there viewing the play. It's just a lot easier to see something happen when youre 5-10m away from the action than in soccer where there's soo much space.

I have referee'd soccer games when I was in college. Sometimes, It's fucking hard to see, as shit happens really fast and far away from where you are setting up. The worst thing you can do is to allow a game to get out of hand physically, where pushing fights and shit can break out... and if you allow guys to just trip each other and get away with it, theyre going to keep doing it and havoc ensues. So you tend to err on the side of just being harsh about anything - which sucks because that's when all the theatrics start happening.

Argentina does not deserve that win at all. What a terrible showing

Argentina's entire world cup history is a lot of wins they didn't deserve.

Also a lot of losses they didn't deserve.

France literally had 2 penalties in that game are you high?

I made that post prior to those right after the flop that gave Argentina their first goal.

I retract it. Gladly eat my words on that one. Really good game in the end.

Also yes

Lol fair

that final was one for the books. turned out to be such a good game

crazy that mbappe gets a hat trick but loses.

also, that save by Martinez in the 2nd half of extra time where he basically went into the splits was insane. may go down as one of the best saves of all time.

long live messi the king
