Just like in facebook. You could talk with your friends without having to wait one day for answer, instead you would get them instantly and a pop up box would appear somewhere and you could reply etc...

Is it hard to make, or is there some reason why we dont have it? it sounds super fun to me..
 
Or even just an integrated chat with private chat ability like flashchat..

Don;t know how much it would be to have as a feature. but a music website/forum like this with less members has it.
 
potential overload of stupid kids messaging everyone.If you could limit to who you allowed to message you it'd be fine, but then it's be facebook.
 
TBH we've looked at lots of solutions for this. We started by making our own cult chat system, but the performance / adoption of that has been mediocre at best.

Integrating 3rd party stuff (as far as we've found) has been pretty mediocre at best.

So you can note that we're looking at solutions for this, but we have not found anything we yet like, and there are other things we'd like to fix first.

Do note that it is on our list of things to look at.

 
the thing with the cult chat thing is that nobody is ever checking it at the same time (or you'd have to find a lucky coincidence and have a live chat with someone ...

a community chatroom would be fun i think ...

like the NS tinychat but official ....
