On a local level, I'm stoked prop 2 passed in california, it requires that farm animals be able to fully extend their limbs, and wings and move around if they are confined. This is a good start on animal rights.

what does it say about the people running against bush that lost to him twice. I am not scared of Obama he isnt really going to know what to do once he gets into office. I am more worried about Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, they are the ones who control allot more in this country and are too radical.

Wow... You really do not know what you're talking about. It's nearly impossible to turn a huge country like America into a socialistic state like DDR or The Sovjetunion these days. I would say it IS impossible. The difference between a red and a blue partie these days are small. Really small. So when you say that he is a socialist it doesn't really say that much.. Just that he is more of a humanist then you seems to be.

I live in Sweden and we have the highest taxes IN THE WHOLE WORLD (and we don't even hav a socialistic partie "in charge" anymore) and I guarantee you that we have it for a reason and that it's worth it. I mean we have free health care, free school all the way, even college (though we don't really call it that) and we are one of the richest countries in the world. Yes it sucks that i have to pay 30 percent of my salary in taxes, but in the end it's worth it. And because of our taxes and what it gives us we are problaby more free then the majority of the americans are. Yes, there is problably more rich people in the US, but there is problably A LOT more poor people too. The welfare here in Sweden is one of the highest in the world and would have to say that have to do with the taxes. And in my opinion that is a word that America should focus on, welfare.

Yes you are the leaders in many things, but not by yourself and certainly not because of capitalism. The country is to big, and the world is depending on you way to much for that to happend, which also leads me in to why America truly are, as you said, the leaders of the world (still not knowing in which department though). It's because you have the biggest country in the world, which means that you have access to almost everything and it also means that you have a lot more money then say, Denmark. That is why problaby 75% percent of the not-american inventions, and other things that can be consider as something "leading", is presented to american investors or buyers and in the end is seen as a american invention. I don't mean it as a bad thing, it is truly necessary, but to say that America is leading because of capitilism is incorrect, stupid and ignorant.

Sorry if the english isn't always as understandable or correct as I want it to be, but if you have read this far i guess you know why.

At the same time, Americans are going to keep Obama in check. We didn't allow Bush to ban abortion and we won't allow Obama to "become a socialist" (which is an overstated, misused word in the conservative party when directed toward Obama)

First of all, I will say that I am VERY happy that Obama got elected (this is the first election I've really followed and knew the issues they were addressing because next election I will be able to vote, I'm 16 now)
Now for my argument for Obama:
First of all, the US is NOT going to become socialist, it's just not gonna happen. We may adopt some socialist aspects, but we will remain predominantly capitalist. Don't get me wrong, there is NOTHING wrong with socialism. I think that different aspects of socialism integrated with a capitalistic society will create a more stable economy. I think that Obama will lead our country into a better economic situation and GREATLY improve our foreign relations.
That's just my 2 cents, feel free to disagree with me, cus that's just your opinion, but please have a well formulated argument before you disagree with me. As long as you have something intelligent and well thought out to say, no matter how much I disagree with your opinion, I will accept it as your opinion and respectfully disagree.

Hey I don't live in America, but this election was important for the whole world. It is important to care. Hell, look at the economic situation; it is not only effecting America, but the whole world. saying Obama is a socialist, is like saying Marx was a capitalist. Please, I doubt you can find one person who calls them self socialist that would agree with the policies of President Elect Obama.

Obama still falls right of the vast majority of this world, including New Zealend you dumbass (that was directed at ATLANTASKIS).
 
I see a lot of parallels between Kennedy and Obama*. Should be a very reviving presidency perhaps we will have a challenge like the space race. Exciting. I am ready to get motivated and change things. "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country." We have a lot of work to do we are fast becoming the stupidest country (24/29 on math skills in the industrialized world. many other stats back this up.) We need to put aside our differences and work together.

And everyone who hates Obama needs to check that attitude at the door. This is how a democracy works, majority rule. Bush stole two elections and ran our country into the ground. And I supported the man after 911 because I was scared. I ask you now to support Obama, not because you are scared, but because you have hope for the future of our country.

* I'm not suggesting he is going to get shot. In fact I think that would be the worst thing ever to happen.
 
the better a country is the more people will want to move there. If a country is 'great' then lots of people will be trying to move there, so much that not all can move in legally. It makes some sense.

But then you have S. Africa that has one of the biggest immigration policies in the world.
