Woooooooooh. Barack Obama Elected president.

Why should it be my responsiablity to help the lower man. He is in a lower postion because his contribution to society is none. We need poor people in the country to do the shity jobs no one else wants. If im rich when im older its because i earned it, its not far to punish people for being smarter and better. I have no problem being selfish and caring about myself, if being fifthy rich and giving back to the community is what makes you happy do it. I would be hard pressed to find someone fininaclly well off who doesnt give back without being forced to.

BREAKING NEWS
SEAN HANNITY was reportedly found locked in his bathroom soaking his balls with his own tears.

check a few pages back or in the other thread. he definitely had a very classy speech. props to him for that.

so stoked counting down to 1/20! i hope he can follow through on all the hype and really make a change, i think he can.
big ups to McCain and his speech, unfortunate that all those yokels had to boo at all his good points. the sad thing is that mentality is caused, for the most part, by the way he used mudslinging to dominate his campaign tactics..... still this whole "unity" thing has me stoked, if it can be accomplished

lets also hope Barack doesnt refer to any world leaders as "typical white people"

and Biden doesnt ask a paralyzed person to stand up for a round of applause

but what does this typical white person know?

The first thing i saw when I turned on the news was a black guy talking about racism. This is going to go on for the next four years

amen.
as to the taxation on coal and pollution, we are unfortunately far from what this world needs in the way of new energy sources. for those of you that think coal or even "clean coal" is our future i beg of you to go look at a coal mine... traditional underground mines, strip mines, mountains being demolished and the remnants the exist in our backyards from mines of the past. in order for the new technology we need to be developed and for these energy sources to become economical our gas and coal prices must rise. at some point these resources will be gone. so bring on the high energy bills... its worth it.

let's also take a minute to breathe a sigh of relief that drew has another thread in which to pwn some noobs.... for a minute i was worrying about a lack of ill-tempered and indignant rebuttals and raging explantions of the extraordinary wrongness of the average NSer

haha, i didn't mean to call you out or anything. on the contrary, i rather enjoy watching your tear people apart...

read up fucker. his policies arent socialist. and that site has questionable accuracy for sure.

I thought it was sad that the biggest worry on everyone's mind this election was their money...but oh well we will likely be leaving Iraq, and it will most likely fall apart. It was kind of inevitable to be shitty in some way no matter how the election went. All we can do now is move forward. Besides, it's not like the world is going to be different tomorrow.

Dude, who gives a shit. The election is over. We all need to go to our rooms, bend over, and take it like a man because no president is perfect and every one of them is guaranteed to fuck you at some point and time. Now can we all kill these threads and discuss the ridiculous amount of skiing we will be doing this weekend?

Such that the idiocy of the voting masses be shown to the world to explain how Palin could ever have even been considered as a viable option by many.

its a step out of the mire though. and at this point change is going to be a bit more coerced. its going to be met by necessity, less driven by a real choice for change.

funny that someone so progressive and "lliberal" for america is still quite right wing from a canadian perspective.

public health care is where its at, bout time america.

Whoa you're using a blog as a reference?C'mon man a blog is not an accurate nor a trustworthy source, due to the fact that it is someone's opinion, therefore biased in some way.
and btw replying to your answer to my other post, yea the coffee cup was a bit over the edge but I figured some of the less-brighter members of NS would be better off with such an example.
Also, at no point did I say you were filthy rich, I just assumed that you were better off than some other people in this country, I mean you're on NS and you ski; and I think everyone will agree with me on this one, skiing isn't cheap. It's certainly a very exclusive sport, not many people can afford it.
And think, I'm not saying you have to dish out money to drug addicts and criminals, of course that would be ridiculous. Many of the criminals got themselves in shit by their own accord and I don't have any sympathy or the will to donate to them so they can continue their pathetic lives more luxuriously.
However, my point is that you (yes you too my friend, you too) also have the possibility of becoming that unfortunate member of society that might one day find themselves wishing they had a helping hand to get them back on their feet. I said this before but I'll say it again; we're all equally likely to be unexpectedly hit by some kind of tragedy, lets just say a bad crash skiing to put it in context, and we might some day need expensive care to recover.
And what about after you recover, you're 50K in debt, you don't have a job because they fired you during your hospital stay, and you find yourself liquifying your assets or selling your home to pay back your debt? To add on to that, what if you lost a leg due to your accident and your job cannot accomodate wheelchairs? What now, you can't work, you have a huge debt to pay, you're homeless and you're in a wheelchair.
It'd sure help if you had health insurance wouldn't it?
and I'm not talking insurance where its optional (meaning if you can afford it) and you'll get rejected for the majority of your claims but a health insurance system where the government would pay for the healthcare so anybody can walk (or be carried in) to a hospital and come back out without dishing out one cent.
And this money doesn't have to come from extra taxes by the way, because if the government plans their spending carefully and not spending billions and billions of dollars on some stupid cause such as the war on iraq (which is considered pointless by the majority of the world and by the way as a side note, Bush could technically be arrested and put on trial for war crimes had he been a third world leader) you would have money to fund the universal healthcare without extra money going out from your pocket.

Correction you ignorant dumbshit, electing Bush for two terms was the biggest mistake our country made. I hate ignorant people who think that Obama will turn us all into commies.

lol at all the kids crying about "socialism."

i bet nearly every single one of your parents claims you as a dependent. i love irony

completely agreed. anyone who thinks this country's gonna be anything resembling a socialist country is out of their mind.

hahahahahahahahahahahahhaha

holy fuck, some of the republicans in this thread are such morons. glad you guys are a minority now!

this thread is amusing.

As we decide who to vote for - let's all try and understand at least one

common issue - basic bar stool economics.

Econ 101

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten

comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it

would go

something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.

The fifth would pay $1.

The sixth would pay $3.

The seventh would pay $7.

The eighth would pay $12.

The ninth would pay $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every

day

and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one! day, t h e owner

threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers, he said,

'I'm

going to reduce the cost of your daily beer b y $20. Drinks for the ten

now

cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes, so

the

first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But

what

about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide

the

$20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?' They realized

that

$20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from

everybody's

share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid

to

drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to

reduce

each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out

the

amounts each should pay.

And so: The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100%

savings)

The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings).

The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28% savings).

T he eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).

The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).

The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued

to

drink for free. But once outside the restaurant the men began to compare

their savings.

'I only got a dollar out of the $20,'declared the sixth man. He pointed

to

the tenth man,' but he got $10!'

'Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar,

too.

It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!'

'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back

when I

got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!'

'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get

anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat

down

and ! had bee rs without him. But when it came time to pay the bill,

they

discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between

all of

them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our

tax

system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit

from

a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and

they

just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking

overseas

where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

Well when Tommy Douglas first got this crazy far out idea about medicare, lot's of people got really scared and started calling him things like "Pinko" and "Commie" and Saskatchewan became the first "red" province (and not the republican red, like Bolshevik type red). Who knew such a wacky idea might catch on.

Oh man. America. America.

You know I'm glad Obama beat McCain and all, but there was something that struck me (and incidently my dad). As foreigners it's quite obvious. It's even blatantly obvious by the rhetoric used in this thread (socialism, communism etc), that the US is terrirfied of anything slightly left. It's so bad that its humurous to many outside observers. You get one media outlet saying Obama has connections to some activist he knew back in college and it exlpodes into accusations of him being a communist dictator from Cuba. It really is funny. But on the other hand it's not. It reduces actual representation within the democracy because any leader realistically wanted to get into the White House has to distance themselves from that discourse as much as possible, so many policies of the traditional left, ie concern for the 'environment' (you can't have an economy without a healthy working 'environment' (I put environment in 'environment' because I see it as a part of us and us a part of it, not a separate entity)) are drastically disregarded. This all results in a party (the democrats) running a campaign at the furtherest, along centrist ideologies. So you have a centrist party and a right wing party. The left - the whole of the left- are disregarded as too close to communism to win an election. Sad.

That's just one observation I made. And yes, I would have voted for Nader.

Yeah well, the republican party in this country is smart, I have to hand it to them, they have successfully sold to much of the public, a label on anything outside their agenda as "Radical" it is truly unbelievable.
And yes, if you want proof, you just have to read some of the comments in this thread.
