Wondering why everyone loves L1P

I just finished watching S6 and although a good movie, it wasn't bermans best or second best for that matter. So my question is Why does every kid have a hard on for L1P and Berman and every kid that joins this website hops on the L1P bandwagon. Poor Boyz movie last year was by far the best with TBC coming in a close second. To me S6 was just a skiing rip off of the robot food guys and it didn't impress me that much. Why can't Berman create something new, I know that he has the ability and desire, but for some reason that last two films are carbon copies of old snowboard films.

i just watched SH6 for the first time recently and i thought it was really good, and yeah i agree their group of riders is awseome too

Shanghai Six was the overall best movie last year... and actually TBC seemed to me like a copy of snowboard movies, and PoorBoyz is always just ski porn, all their riders do a lot of the same stuff with the same style at the same shoots... level 1 has lots of different young good people every year, they have better music, and i like the editing more... PBP, Level 1 and TBC were all way sick last year but S6 was the best

id pick L1P over poorboyz. why, i couldnt tell you. i like the feel of the films, i think that they just flow better than others.

couldnt agree more. S6 had good variety. In War, how many times did you see some of the same stuff? Don't get me wrong, i thought the movie was good...but i like S6 better.

i like it, but everyone loves it because of epic mocvies like forward, full with shit your pants funny extras

the problem with companies like L1p is that their is absolutely no good big muntain skiing...its all park., thers no like gnarly terrain or anything just gay ass booters although i havent seen S6 ive heard it was overrated, i like TGR, but thats probably becUSE im a big mountain junkie, but PZoorboyz has it all so they get my vote over L1P although TBC was a sick movie

level one just has a vibe like that they enjoy the skiing more then anyone but war is a very close second.....

travis reed and craig coker look like they are having so much fun skiing and the filming and music makes me want to just keep watching and watching

Here's a question to you creator of this thread; why do you have such a hard on for snowboarding's movies? How about before you create a thread ripping apart one of the best filmed ski movies of all time with possibly the best flow, you pull snowboarding's dick out of your ass. I think the internal bodily shit is being pushed up too far through you and putting pressure on your brain cavity causing you to make such weird assumptions and claims.

l1p for me understands that a ski film isnt just sick skiing with a song in the back ground, they do do that but they provide an atmosphere no other film does for me, i could never "relate" to msp films because they seem like they are really "trying hard" , L1P films like high 5 an SH6 are about having fun! thats what i like about them

Josh does more with a 1/10th of the budget of TGR, MSP, or PBP. He doesn't have the doe to fly helis over park shoots or spend 3 weeks in Haines. He makes movies with a camera and some creativity. The reason people like his movies is because he shoots skiing the way we want to see it and does it with 1 other camera guy, not a full staff. Watch "Balance" and then "SH6" and tell me you aren't rooting for a guy who has come this far in 6 years...

Level 1 is good. Forward was a sick movie, lots of urban, lots of originality. Since then they've began adding more BC and it just doesn't seem to compare with movies like War and TBC in that sence. Some riders (ie. Vanular) had some really nice and unique tricks. While a lot of the other tricks in the movie seemed bland, as did some of the camera angles. Now I know that Berman is working with a way smaller budget, but it would be really nice to see him make a movie that is completely different then poorboyz and make a movie based much more on urban in general. Don't get me wrong I thought Shanghi was good, 2nd best behind war.

youve gotta hand it to neil and berman, s6 was hands down the best edited movie of the year but i wasnt really feelin the music (with several exceptions) and i dont think the riding was quite as good as tbc or war. overall id give movie of the year to tbc followed by war and then s6

It had a little more of everything Big mountian, BC booters

and personally I think that Forward was L1p's best film. I like movies that encompass all aspects of skiing jib, booters, gnar lines, and little lifestyle

and I wasn't say that snowboard movies suck I was saying that bermans movie has the feel of a robot food movie, and since he does have a way with films that are fun and up tempo he should make something that is his own and not a skiing version of a snowboard flick. We are two different sports with our own aspects and thats what make skiing unique and snowboarding unique as well. I want for our sport to stay and individual and not get lumped in with snowboarders and I also believe that snowboarders want thier own spirt that is there own.

In general people on this site tend to like the underdogs more even if they are not as good as the company with more money.

If you want to be a succses on NS all you have to do is make something related to freeskiing with no budgit.

Berman has the best urban, he is always coming up with sick angles that nobody has. he uses hd, so your not wasting film. you can get more tech, try tricks more times, get cooler shots. Bermans smart, and he comes up with new ideas every day. there is always lots of progression in a level 1 movie from unique camera angles to good skiing.

^ Trust me dude, no snowboarder, none, compares us to them. Same with people who don't know what they see outside of the X-Games. If you showed them Bermen's movie and Robot Food's they won't give a shit and say, "My God, they are like the same!" No man, they'd see two really sick movies. Who cares if they are identical in some way wether it be editing, music or style. Someone has been there, done that, who cares, it's good entertainment.

i really dont like bermans editing. i found that S6 was a good movie, but i found it REALLY monotonous. personally, i think PBP movies are much more interesting to watch because of the variety of content, not just skiing.

Level 1 is sick, althoguh its my favorite film company, I thought war was better than s6. War was just encredible. It had a mix of everything in it, and the editing went perfectly with the music. everyone keeps saying the music sucked, but i thought it was really good.

Shanghai six was still really good. the editing was really good, and the music was ok, I jsut liekd war better. but level 1 is better than any other production company. the last 4 movies have been sick.

btw, msp sucks ass.

i think that S6 was by far the best ski movie last year but has anyone seen the DC mtn lab video... that is the coolest thing ever and could be the best snow sports film ever made

Yeah, you can go buy the movie at an EMS store so do it people! And while you're at it, buy Born From Ice, sick ski movie!

l1p is amazing because they have the perfect group of riders, they have good music, and they have a good variety of stuff, id rather see more urban than backcountry

urban is slayed, rails are slayed

he edits with the best music around and forward is the best movie ever

MSP - made amazing movies back in the day, SM2 and Sm3 are still some of my all time favorite ski movies. Recently, they suck, havent made a decent movie since SM3. yearbook was ok I guess, but still, MSP recently = poop.

L1P - Berman has come a long way in the last few years, High 5 put this company in my top 3 favorite right now. I like the spirit and the emotion thats in each film, High 5 felt so 'happy' that I cant stop loving it.

TGR - Ehh... that sums up my opinion of these guys. While they produce sick shots, they get too much into the lifestyle for me, and each film seems like its has some weird living life message. Also, theres something about the filters they use thats also kinda odd. They do have some very sick shots though, I wish I liked the editing better. Also, Micah Black's commentaries and interviews get annoying.

PBP - Decesare has been rocking my ski world with his films since Propaganda, and I love the solid style and sick shots in each film. I like that he doesnt try to make his films anything weird or special: they're always solid, straight up good ski movies.

Kris Ostness - I loved Tee-Time and Flying Circus, these films epitomized the crazyness and insanity that skiers have. Giant gaps and hige tricks were the staple of these films, and always kept my jaw nailed to the floor. When Ostness came out with TBC after a long hiatus, I immediatly loved it. Although the tricks have changed over the years, each shot is still crazy. I love the filter on this, it reminds me of some snowboard movies I've seen in the last few years. If anyone wanted to know what newschool skiing was, I would show them this movie. Ostness is definently at the top of my filmmaker list right now, and I hope more movies come out in the next few years. A little dash of oldschool might be what our sport needs right now (besides, who doesnt want to see some guy try and backflip a 140' gap?).

Why is everyone leaving out Plehouse? I think White Shine was the sickest movie of the year. It may not have the most incredible skiing but the whole vibe of the movie is awesome I think.

I thought TBC was second best, followed by Shanghai Six, and then War, although they were all good movies.

not having seen sh6, you have no frame of reference here. sterbenz had a ballsy drop in his seg, and some gratutious big mountain lines, as did luke, and john symms, who absolutely kills it no matter what the conditions.

I wouldn't say bc booters are "gay ass" and even though some movies have more variety it does not make the movie better overall. I respect Berman because he knows how to put a general flow into a movie, I can watch SH6 from start to finish and be like, wow, that was a good movie. He also knows how to be very creative with some of his angles and editing. The first time I watched the movie War I could barely understand what was happening, there was NO flow whatsoever and their scenic shots are like holding a cactus in front of a camera pressing record and putting a filter over it in post...now that, is what I call lack of creativity.

And even though TGR is sort of on the right track for making good big mountain ski movies, their commentary is forced, they exaggerate some certain things to make it sound more "epic" or "bad" than it actually was. Someone should really step it up, and not try and wow the croud and actually make a decent fucking ski movie.

That's my $.02

Yes, I completely agree. They try to make thier movies more hardcore than the footage actually is, and it sucks.

War sucked, there was no reason for anyone to buy it over any of their older movies, it is the exact same layout. Sure it has better skiing, but that is just because it is newer so more progression has happened.

Personally i think the one movie i can watch over and over and over is Hitlist RIDERS REMIX. Then Shanghai Six. then TBC

you clearly have zero idea of what good music is then....The Secret Machines, Bloc Party, Zion I, Tribe Called Quest? Go see any of those groups live when you are old enough to get into a music venue and then make that statement...
