Women Analyzing Football

It seems nowadays that sports stations like ESPN more often have a women on set during halftime shows or post-game shows who's job is too analyze the game, rather than ask the questions to experienced, ex-NFL players. For me personally, it is uncomfortable to hear them talk about the game. It just seems out of place and forced almost. I know ESPN is trying to be more fair with genders, but this is not the place for it. This would be like if a guy with little fashion experience was given a script for a talkshow on womens clothes or accessories. It would be awkward as hell.

I have nothing against women or anything like that, its just none of them ever played NFL football. and the NFL has never had a women player either. Ever.

When it comes to women reporting with football I feel like they aren't forced or awkward if they're reporting on injuries or asking coaches prewritten questions and basically memorizing their answers.

I'm glad that we leave the analyzing to men like Terry Bradshaw as he slowly descends into madness

Obviously it's impossible for someone without a dick to understand how football is played.

Instead of having an intelligent woman who literally went to college in order to work in news/sports/tv report on our sidelines, let's leave it to the rich bumbling idiot former NFL players with traumatic brain injuries.

Obviously I have nothing against former players, just think it's retarded to believe women can't do just as good a job.

I guess I get where you are coming from OP because it is always shitty to hear someone try and engage in a conversation where they have no idea what they are talking about. I just don't think it should matter that much if they have played in the NFL or not, you know? I feel someone should be able to analyze a game without having played it professionally, but they should at least have some knowledge on it.

Not just the women, I'd bet most announcers are being fed the info

100%.

For awhile, I always thought that these guys just had this shit off the top of their heads, then I started watching sportscenter every day and working for a TV station. Even the prestigious ex-nfl athletes are being fed words through a prompter and in their ear. EVERYTHING is written before they go on air and they definitely add small things here and there but for the most part it's completely scripted.

OP you're being ridiculously sexist, the women who analyze football know more about football than you and your guy friends combined, plus they know a shit ton about other sports too. You don't just get a job being an anchor for ESPN because you're a pretty face, there are tons of low end anchors for ESPN that just do online videos and the people on TV did the same thing, worked their way up and earn that TV spot.

This is pretty dumb.

I don't care. I have fun with life... I don't waste my time worrying about other people's business. We only have so long to live, man.

I honestly agree, I am a full blown feminist, but it's a mans sport, these girls have never played. I've played football for 12 years and can honestly say it the most complicated sport. I'm still learning many things about it. I'm a QB for a junior football team in canada, It's a high level of football, Many guys go to the CFL and the occasional kid gets drafted to the NFL. I can truly say you need to play football to understand it properly, guys like troy aikman and other ex QBs are always the best commentators. It's not being sexist.

You can see how an utterly self interested life is a troubling thing though right? Empathy isn't really a waste of time...

People arguing over the bullshit that goes on in this world is unnecessary.

Mhm, because society would totally exist if we had been complacent as fucking monkeys.

America would be thriving if the colonists hadn't been pissed at the Brisish.

We would have minimum-wage jobs and child labor laws if nobody had stood up for the people getting fucked over.

You sound reallllly ignorant right now bud.

Cool... well I'll let you guys do all the work because I don't care... thanks a lot!

I also have fun with life. But with your mindset, you're going to live an incredibly sheltered and ignorant life. I assume you'll change as you get older and come to your senses though (hopefully)

here's my 2 cents, take it for what it is and as nothing offensive (or god forbid, sexist).

I don't know anything about football. yeah games are cool to watch if you've got a beer, some wings, and your crew with you but otherwise, not my gig. however, I know of very few chicks who eat breathe and sleep football so much that i cant even be in the same room with them when the game is on because they get too technical and competitive with player stats and whatever the hell else football fanatics talk about.. so, I digress...

I think that there are some women completely capable of handling an interviewing job such as the ones that ESPN provides in order to analyze game performance, ask questions, and talk about players fluctuation of progression through their overall careers and seasons. However, I also believe that ESPN would NOT put an unattractive woman on their network who must carry out these interviewing tasks because they are intended to be aired on live tv for the entirety of the viewing public...

again, this is my opinion.

I know that all of us may have met a girl down the road who could talk football but wasn't the most gorgeous lady at the gathering. And this is not me trying to sweat attractiveness in comparison to knowledge of football, rather, agreeing with some of the posts in this thread as to the fact that most, if not perhaps all, of these ladies' live interviews are indeed produced with scripts here and there in order to engage the audience and players as any previous man sportscaster had done in the past (with the assumption that the men had the experience and knowledge to interview without much assistance from ESPN).

in the case that each of these pretty, full-face make-uped girls with gorgeous hair that I could only dream of, HAVE extensive football knowledge, kudos to them because they would definitely deserve that position.

Read what i said earlier man. It honestly helps sooooo much if you've played football. I don't think it's sexist.

This thread is so cringe worthy.

I'd love to hear OP's thoughts on how all girls should wear pink and love barbies and all boys should only wear and love trucks. 1950 called, they want their OP back.

Lol girls know nothing about football. Its not sexist if its true

Its uncomfortable to hear a woman talk about sports? lol jesus dude, you got some issues yourself there, bud.

obviously you dont watch enough professional sports or the coverage because its filled with nicely-dressed meathead ball players that know jack fuckin shit about they are talking about. You're gonna sit there and say guys like Ray Lewis are full of wisdom and insight? Fuck, these ex-NFL players probably have their brains rotting as we speak and say the most blatantly obvious bullshit. "You know what he needs to do to get his team back on track is to score some more points." "If they want to make the playoffs, they are gonna have to win more games." oh and we cant forget my favorite: "If you score more points and outplay the opponent, you will win." Yeah no fuckin shit, thanks for reiterating the same shit peewee coaches tell 5 year olds.

im ranting but im trying to say is you're full of shit with that logic, dude. call me a white knight or whatever but I guess I dont really get all angry when I see women in positions that are normally filled in by dudes. Oh god, i must be such a pussy then.

I would say a chick is capable of being as good of a reporter as any guy that hasn't played college level or higher football. If you haven't been there though you probably don't have any unique insights to share, merely the same talking points everyone else has.

As has been mentioned in this thread though, much of the post game pablum is scripted anyway and could be read just as well by my 14 year old cousin Sophia.

If you were to apply the same logic to a ski announcer, anyone could announce a big air comp if they watched enough YouTube videos, but that will never equate to knowing what it's like to hit an icy 90 foot jump at night in front of 10000 fans. The problem was that you framed the argument as men versus women when it should have been experience versus inexperience.
