Wolf Creek

Can anyone give me some info on this place? I know the snow is great, but how big does it ski and how long would it take to get bored there? I'm thinking of doing a Silverton, Wolf Creek, Taos trip this February... I've skied Taos before so I'm pretty familiar but not so much with Wolf Creek. Thanks!

Wolf creek is the shit. If you hit it during a good snow day (which are pretty frequent. Supposed to have 1 foot+ by tomorrow, it's dumping!!!) and when the powder's nice, you can easily ride all day without getting bored. I love that mountain.

From what I recall from when I went there 8 years ago, while the snow was awesome, the mountain was pretty short. After skiing taos it seemed flat also. Nevertheless, I also remember there being lots of fun mini golf stuff you could jump off and the snow is unbeatable.

Wolf Creek is one of the best places in the world when there is abundant new snow. The Waterfall area has some amazing steep tree skiing. My top five or so deepest/best days have all been Wolf Creek. The mountain is short and there are a lot of flat areas through which you might end up skating. And it's definitely more crowded that in used to be. Thant being said, this is a photo from last December. Notice the lack of people on the chairlift.

Yup pretty much what everyone here has said. I went to Wolf Creek last January. I skied the day at Vail, and drove to Wolf Creek. I lucked out, because just as I pulled up to the hotel in South Fork, it started to dump. When I say dump, I mean I have never seen snow fall that fast before... in my entire life. It snowed well over 30 inches from 9pm, till 6 am. I woke up, and my little nissan rental car was buried in the parking lot. After the hotel plowed the driveway, I attempted to drive up wolf creek pass. Which was very sketchy. I barely made it...As for the skiing Wolf Creek is on the smaller side compared to the Colorado super resorts. There really is only 4 lifts to use. It can be very very flat towards the end so make sure you keep your speed up, to minimize as much skating as possible.

However, like someone else has said the waterfall area is some of the best skiing I have ever done. Amazing to say the least. The snow was epic, and that's what wolf creek has going for it. The snow. If your cool with better snow quality, and a smaller mountain then Wolf Creek is for you. They also have some bad ass, easy access, ...back country. All back country gates are a short hike.

Wolf Creek is amazing for powder anytime. It's pretty isolated as it's in the San Juan Mountain range but still so much fun.

Typically it doesn't get too crowded, and its one of the only mountains i've ridden in the west that i think has more horizontal feet than vertical, so it can be flat in areas but regardless it's the tits if you can get out there.

Waterfall are is amazing as well. Super fun on a powder day!

I am contemplating going to Wolf Creek the day after thanksgiving, if they are getting snow. No idea how its going to be crowd wise, never skied the day after thanksgiving...
