WME Email Response.

Dear Jordan,

Warren Miller Entertainment (WME) filed a lawsuit against Level 1 Productions seeking to stop Level 1's intentional misuse of WME's registered trademarks to promote its latest film release.

Beginning with the pioneering work of ski and film icon Warren Miller, and for the last 20 years under WME's stewardship, WME has invested significant resources in the development and preservation of the Warren Miller brand. The careful and creative use of that brand, and the annual Warren Miller ski films that form the centerpiece of WME's business, have played an integral role in establishing and defining the ski film industry. Under the trademark laws, but even more critically under a common sense of fairness, WME believes it imperative to retain control of the use of the Warren Miller brand.

WME will continue its longstanding support of the ski film industry and its affinity with the community of outdoor enthusiasts, and to assure its fans and followers that the regrettably necessary legal steps taken will not adversely affect WME’s support of, and collaboration with, independent film companies and filmmakers.

intentional misuse? Fuck that, fuck WME.

I brought this up in one of the threads but I am going to do it again here, continue to email WME and their sponsors but also take the time to email Level 1's sponsors. Tell them how much you love them and support them and their backing of Level 1. As I said even if Level 1 wins this can still be expensive and this is where sponsors could potentailly step in and help out.

Level 1's sponsors are: Dyanstar, Skullcandy, Jiberish, Kombi, Spyder, Under Armour, Spy, SWEET protection, Freeskier mag, Level gloves, SBC Skier, Moment skis, Orage, Amplid, Volkl, 4frnt, Full Tilt, and EC Headwear.

not weird its a canned message. I sent a reply asking for someone to take the time to email me back personally. Another reason WME is so out of touch with their audience.

Haha, they word it as if by using warren miller's voice, level 1 is taking control of WME and pretending to be WME...so ridiculous. I am sure Berman was thinking, "hey, you know how our market loves the new WME movies? We should totally just pretend to be WME!"

We all got the same bullshit. What they did will stay in my head forever even if they would put the lawsuit away against level1. This was the lowest move ever made.

On another note, Ive never watched any movie from Warren Miller Entertainment and I'm sure half of the kid that where in the audience at IF3 premiere never did too. When I watched Refresh I was just stocked on the product quality. Images/sounds/editing/riders it has it ALL. All the movie was just amazing. I didnt care at all of the Warren stuff, I was just amazed by what I was seeing, wallish segment , henrik, b-dog and the list goes on. So WME saying that people were yelling WARREN is BULLSHIT since I was right there and never heard anything of that. The only thing I heard people yelling was B-DOG. And if there is anything that Warren Miller hiself could do in Refresh is get all the young kid who didnt know about him to get interested to other movie that Warren miller has done, but no you guys decided to sue Level 1 instead to understand that every kid here would have got interest in your product and probably then buy a couple of movie. Anyway , you did well to sue Level 1 so thats way we all know that you guys did nothing for the sport and only cared about your pocket. We all want our sport to stay and grow and it isnt with people like you that it will happens. You are trying to make it die that the only thing youre good at.

Yeah seriously they mis-heard we weren't shouting WARREN at if3, we were shouting B-DOG B-DOG haha good memorys. On another note I love how as the day goes (and people are less and less sober) the vibe gets crazyer and people just start cheering for every add, I love IF3.

the only reason people go to wm movies is for the free lift tickets...

but searously this whole this is bs

Unfortunately, I doubt they are. WME films are as far as I can tell by far the most well known ski films outside core industry supporters. I bet if you were to ask around NS and TGR the members are far more likely to buy from movies from other companies. The market that WME approaches is the weekend skiers, and the parents who want to buy their kids a ski movie for xmas. I think that WME would hardly even notice a dufference in sales if there was a total boycott among NS and TGR. This is why we not only need to boycott them, but we need to approach their sponsors, and the venues that usually premiere their movies. Regretebly, this is probably far to serious of a matter for us to make a serious difference, and the best thing we can do is show our total support to L1P and hope they get through this relitively unscathed.

wow...check out this wisdom. nothing wrong with the logic but how intoxicated are you right now andrew?

''WME will continue its longstanding support of the ski film industry''Thats bullshit! Trying to stop L1P is tearing down the ski industry!

Sharing your feelings about this situation with our sponsors is one of the best things that the public can do to show support (or lack, thereof, if thats the case) of Level 1.
I'm happy to report that the vast majority of our sponsors have our back 100%.

I was over WME after getting a mediocre ski flick for the price it costs to just buy the movie but after hearing this, I'll be out boycotting in front of the movie theater when this movie comes to town

I don't know about that. You would be surprised how much a fairly small internet community can do. For example, I think its fairly safe to say they are receiving more backlash now probably than they have for any recent big public move. We certainly shouldn't write it off as "this is probably far to serious of a matter for us to make a serious difference", because the fact is, this isn't a serious matter in the big scheme of things. As far as legal matters go, this is a pinprick. This doesn't really matter. It is a small, concentraited problem and I think that in this case we do wield the power to at least make ourselves heard if nothing else. Showing support to Level 1 and its sponsers is important, but we should most definitely continue to complain to WME.

You also have to remember that one of the key points in marketing is securing yourself a future audience. A young, cool audience. Hell, Obama basically ran his campaign on it. The future audience is newschoolers, young park skiers, etc. I promise you that a large amount of thought every year goes into catering to this new growing audience, and they will feel this rift they've created with the next generation of consumers of their products.

Yeah no kidding everyone on here thinks Warren Miller films are boring... you are not their target audience (your parents are). The films are meant to show the fun that one can have on snow- not the most progressive double flips and handrails. Does WME really care if a couple Newschoolers don't go to the premier with their parents?

good to hear. This shit makes me so pissed everytime i here about WME. Fuck it. Keep up with the Emails guys!
