Wire up two mics to a go pro? (not ski related)

Hola,

I've had an idea for a while now, to make a vid of my Subaru with two microphones. I want to wire up mic #1 to the engine (turbo/BOV) and mic #2 in the rear for the exhaust (Brrroaawww). I'm wondering if anyone knows of an adapter I could get to put two 1/8" mics in my go pro?

Why?....well, it's dissapointing to see all these youtube vids, of guys with $40k+ cars, who film their cars with a digital camera and say shit like "oh yea, well, you can't hear this because of XYZ"...NO EXCUSES for me.

If not, is there another way to do this? I could run three separate cameras, but I would like to skip the whole synchronizing thing and do it all in one shot. Not to mention I'm trying to get the best quality...

I could run it through a mixer, but I'm in my car, so I'm limited for space and all that stuff. I could work through a macbook/windows laptop if there's a program out there? Could I just plug two mics into a splitter and it'll work? I probably should have some kind of mixer though...

My sister is in music at McGill, so I'm pretty sure I have access to any equipment.

Later concerns involve wind noise and such, but that'll be a whole other bridge to cross.

Gracias,

Fuhrer Lorida.

you could try a mono-mono to stereo or a stereo-stereo- stereo splitter, i don't see why one of those wouldnt work. however, i'd suggest using a digital recorder and syncing the audio in post. You'd have to use XLR microphones, but those would give you better audio anyways. I'd suggest the tascam dr-100 or zoom h4n. I'm sure the music department would have one of them, and several mics that would work fine. No need to worry about the lack of gain control on the zoom because you'll be dealing with a lot of noise. and long as you set the levels right you'll get really baller sound. Good luck!

If a splitter will work, I'll definitely give it a shot...If the quality is shit, then I'll opt for a digital recorder.

Thanks.

+1 on the h4n or other digi recorder.

run the recorder and two XLR wireless lav's? Are you intending on hard wiring in the mics to your cam/recorder?

Just run mics to a recorder or laptop and edit the sound in. Make sure there is a strong matching audio and video cue to sync them up and you're good.
