Thanksgiving is kind of a weird holiday. I mean, we're celebrating the one time in history we got along with the Native Americans. Its like a date rapist saying 'We should concentrate on the great dinner we had before the evening started.'

Unless you love bumps, Winter Park isn't that great on the outside. But once you get to know it, it has some suck stuff in the trees, and good powder stashes and the such. And they get more snow then the Summit County areas (over 400 inches last year).

i want to see a new pic of you slaying that rail in the first picture...take advantage of all that snow...

'I was in the waiting room of my doctor's office before a physical this morning. There's nothing wrong with me, but healthy people get physicals just-for-the-hey-of-it every couple of days. When they finally mispronounced my name, I got up and walked down a hall with a nurse. After a while, the doctor came in and inspected my holes. He said that I should lose weight and consider stop smoking. I blew smoke in his face and explained that he is a douche bag. We all had a good laugh and he agreed.' -Skydaddy

what are you guys talking about, winter park is the best!!!! you just have to know where to go. out of all the resorts they have some of the best trees and of coarse the best bumps, their park isnt as good as the ones at key, breck, and copper, but you can still have tons o' fun there. plus they have the highway run off the other side of parsenn bowl.

I hope winter park gets as good of year this year, as it did last year. I remember on the 16th of novemeber last year, the first friday the zepher was open, we got the first tracks down undernieth prospector. It was waste deep and uncut. It was pretty sweet. Winter Park is usually always a pretty good place for finding freshies, if you're willing to hop into the trees.

Yeah, what ^he^ said!! Winter Park is awesome! The bumps are outstanding!! (although they are getting less outstanding this year now that crappy Intrawest is grooming Mary Jane!!! Someone needs a good kick in the head!! ....anyways...) The Trees are fantastic, the hidden stuff that most don't know about is unreal, and it's a fairly inexpensive town. I've never paid more than $225 for my season pass in the 6 or 7 years I've been getting them. The park isn't the best in the land, but it's big enough to have fun on. If you're looking for good back country, the Hwy 40 access gate off skiers right of Parsenn is incredible. The Cirque is a little short for the time spent getting there, but it's a TUN of fun when you're there!! For more of the 'BC' experience, Berthoud Pass is just a couple miles up the road. Or if you're looking to just set some edges and ride big GS turns, the Winter Park or Vasquez mountains are ideal.

Yeah, I love that place. It's a great ski area where the locals aren't stuck up, the skiing is awesome, you don't have to spend a fortune when you're there, parking is free and you can always find a close spot(at the Jane.)

Last year by the time I left we totaled about 440 inches.

WHAT!!???!?!??!!!!!! Intrawest is grooming mary jane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im so mad now! 10 bucks says that they are trying to make it a more family oriented place! HOW DUMB! and you are right, some of the best BC, the HW 40 run is amazing, you can also get some amazing waist deep freshies in the mushroom patch on sunnyside. and the stuff on berthoud pass is really fun, dont do it if you arnt that good though, there is some pretty technical stuff. sweet place. im regreting not getting a pass to there this season. oh well. it doesnt sound as good as it used to be.

yeah one thing that really sucks about Intrawest taking over is they're building condo's in the trees on the right side of Outhouse looking up. Since these new condo's are going in, they've completly roped off access to that area. So basically the Jungle is off limits now unless you want to poach it. but ateast we still have Touffers and the Mushroom patch.

Permanente1600...

Yeah, if you were there at all during the end of last season, they were 'experimenting' with grooming on the Jane. Their excuse was, 'Well, we have plenty of base, and the season is ending, so we're doing it cause we can and to see how people respond.' So they groomed out the bumps on Frenchmen, and skiers left of Outhouse. Basically what they were trying to do was get more bodies on the Jane side. It didn't work though. Once they groomed Frenchmen and Outhouse, you couldn't ski them after 1:30 cause the lack of sun turned them into an ice rink. It became more 'just trying to get down' than skiing.

It got to the point where so many people were complaing to the lady that sits at the info desk at the Jane, that she began giving out the personal phone number and email address of the head of Intrawest for WP.

So that being said, I was reading in the WP Manifest that Intrawest has been blasting Outhouse over the summer so they could get a groomer up the skiers right side of the run. In addition, they will be grooming the skiers left of Railbender. I'm not sure of the status of Frenchmen though...the article didn't say. So yeah, it sucks that they are grooming parts of MJ, but most of the time when I'm looking for bumps, I'm on Cannon Ball, The Halls, Coupler, and Boiler. There were great moguls on Bender, and I'm upset that they decided to groom half of it, but what can you do. If it gets too bad I'll stop coming.

Don't get me wrong, I still love the place! And it still has the best bumps in the country. I just hope they don't get rid of any more of them. Like I said earlier, Some one needs a kick in the head!!!

that really sucks, outhouse, drunken frenchman, and gandy dancer are some of the best bumps on jane, but your right, railbender, long haul, sort haul, all the bumps on that side of jane are to die for. i think we need to make a petition, i have no doubt that we could get soooooo many people to sign. (i dont think it would do much though, intrawest has already started to spend $ on the new developments) oh well, im starting to fell better about not getting the pass this season.

dOOSH bAGGINS

They had a petition going last year when they started the whole 'grooming experiment.' There were pages and pages full of signatures, not only from the locals, but from the out-of-staters (who are the people WP/Intrawest is making most of their money off of.) In addition to that, WP and Intrawest began getting border line hate mail from people.

But your right, they've already started the development and there's probably not much we (joe skiers) can do about it. They are wanting to turn it in to more of a destination resort area, but given the location and the terrain, I don't think it will ever be a Vail or Keystone. It's too close to denver to be a destination area (i.e. you're flying in to DIA rather than a local airport), and too far from Denver and the Summit County area to be considered 'close' to either.

One thing WP does have going for itself is the open lease with the forest service. They are not limited in how much they can expand the area. So there is incredible potential for more expert terrain to be added.

So I'm halfway dissapointed and frusterated, and halfway opimistic about what they will do in the future. I'm still deffinately glad I got my pass this year. I just wish I didn't live so far away now.

Yeah, last year we were there opening weekend and they already had 60 inches of snow and half of Winter Park open. it was awsome. We ducked the ropes on one of the runs over by Allen Phipps and got theigh deep pow on opening weekend. It was nice.

Yeah, they definitly have some bitchin hidden secrets off in the treees. All sorts of cliffs and such. And just weird stuff. Like last year, we were pretty deep in the trees that seperate Winter Park and Mary Jane and all of a sudden we popped out onto some backyard of a house, just randomly deep in the trees. It was weird.

^ ^ ^

I Don't know specifically where all of the condo's are, because they'd just begun to build them throughout last year. But that new bridge they put over corridor is the road that leads to them. If you stop on the side of Maryjane trail, (after Outhouse comes into it) and look up you can see some of the condo's through the trees. I'm not sure how far up they go, but you can see them.

I love WP, and as long as there are good bumps, I'll keep going there. But, It just seems to me like Intrawest is trying to turn WP into Copper Junoir.

One rumor I have heard, (however I'm not certain how likely it is) Is that the long term plans for Winter Park (i.e. 10-15 years down the road) might include the purchase and expansion to Berthoud pass. Like I said, its a rumor. I don't know how realistic it is, but if this happened it could really open up some some nice extreme skiing.

The only redeeming factor about intrawest purchasing WP, is that its going to allow a significant amount of money to be pumped into the area. Winter Park has always been great for trees and bumps. However, one thing they've lacked on is really good steaps.

danget I hit the wrong button!!!

In continuation. . .

I basically think intrawest has the ability to do some great things for the area. But It all depends on what they actually decide to do.

Yeah, I definitly agree. Interwest could 'make or break' the ski area.

By the way, my friend went to WP this weekend and said that they already had 7 runs open (2 of which were for ski school with the magic carpet, so not really usable for anyone else). They had 7 rails set up, but no jumps yet. I'm excited got this coming weekend. I'm gonna go up and 'shred it.'
