WINTER PARK FREESKIING OPENThe Winter Park Freeskiing Open was born because of the lack of AM/PRO Freeskiing slopestyle opportunities and events for athletes this winter. The goal it to have a unique format event, provide the finalist with exposure via a live webcast, and put some money in the pockets of the best freeskiing athletes in the region. We wanted to level the playing field and give sponsored and un-sponsored athletes the same chance to enter and compete for all the finalist spots. I hear it might get broadcasted on NS and some dude that writes for NS is hosting the live webcast with some dude from Freeskier.

this doesn't make sense to me...... try to follow me here.... this event is happening because of a lack of slopestyle events available this year. winter park is owned by the same company that owns copper (intrawest). copper usually holds the US Open of skiing which usually consists of slope, pipe, and big air. this year copper decides to only have a pipe us open. and winter park gets to hold a slopestyle event.

does that make any sense to anyone else???
 
yea they both might be run by interwest but the parks are run by different people. Copper and winter park are 2 very different ski areas with different people running things.
 
the parks may be run separately but the companies themselves are under the same umbrella . coppers excuse for it only being a pipe contest is because of the hard economic times. these hard economic times are felt throughout the intrawest family. why is one being allowed to host a slope contest when it seems that if that slope contest was still part of the us open it would bring in much more money for the company as a whole?
 
i think copper was just saying that to get out of putting on a slopestyle. Bob homes runs the winter park, park and he is legit and so should this comp!
 
this comp has nothing to do with the us open. they didnt do slope because they lost there main sponsor jeep or subie who ever the heck it was.
