Winter Olympics 2022 Boycott

This isn't the first time the games have been given to a crappy nation attempting to look good while they do shady stuff. Hitler got a games, Putin had Sochi, China is just the next to use it as a global PR campaign to cover their asses with. I would support a boycott, maybe it will make the IOC make better decisions.

Idk why people are just starting to act like this now. We've known about all of this for years

Dont forget to add Brazil to the list. That was a shit show for sure.

I doubt anything is going to change, the IOC and the host country put so much money into it, seems unlikely anything happens. But who knows, anything can happen with social media.

I'm not really sure why this is relevant, the US has had like 4 Olympic games in the last 40 years and has 2 more coming in the next 10 years (summer 28 and winter 30).

shit good point, I didn't really think that through. I was in the frame of mind that China has been up to shady shit for a while and trying to emphasize on whats basically a PR stunt to turn the attention away from the genocide theyre committing

I was going to try to compete in slopestyle but I've decided to boycott. So maybe some of theae others guys will actually stand a chance.

The IOC demands are so messed up, there was a country a couple of years ago that leaked a memo of what they were asking for upon their arrival. Plus the white elephants that get left behind in those poorer countries. China are actively committing genocide too.

All should be good reasons not to go, alas, money talks.

Not gonna happen. If olympics wanted to sort out countries that violate human rights they won't have many options left, luckily not all of them are litteral genocides but it will result in olympics having to rank violations and decide if they are "too much" or they are "okay"

yea but the real question is whether [tag=38820]@eheath[/tag] thinks a boycott will be good for the industry or not

My opinion is certainly not that important, I am just a casual viewer at this point. I doubt you will see any brands or athletes in the ski industry boycotting the olympics because regardless of the county where it is held, it's still the world games and nobody is going to turn down that experience, going to the olympics is the ultimate dream of every athlete. I think the only way an athlete doesn't participate is if their country boycotts the olympics, but this seems unlikely for any country that has serious winter olympic athletes IE USA, canada, france, italy, sweden, etc
