Windsurfing

anyone on here windsurf? I was wondering how much that stuff costs? I tried it a few times, it's one of the cooler sports out there that I have not really gotten into. It would be so awesome to have one of these things!

I am a windsurfing junkie. Once you get it down it will consume you. The only downside is that is kinda spendy. You will probably buy used since it's more cost effective and your newer at it. I would say at the very least your going to spend 500 and that would be for some old school gear. A new board will run you in the range of 1000-1800. Sails are 300-550. A mast will run 200-300, Boom 100-200, mast extension: 50, mast foot 45, fins 50-150 each. those are some of the basics you need. After awhile you end up buying different varieties of each. It is free once you buy it and its a ton of fun.

yea, i windsurfed about 30 times or so, but i used my friends gear, whenever i go down to nantucket. it's pretty sweet

Ski. Eat. Sex. Sleep. Ski. What else is there?

if its anything like sailing it will cost you an arm and a leg and maybe the other leg and a kidney and your soul and that will maybe get you some gear from teh 1980's

if you want to be a real gangster wear your ski boots to the dance. when he starts shit when youre

yeah i got a bicsport wavebaord (8'6"), gaastra mast and boom, neilpryde zone sail. i havent used it in ages though......oh and unless u have insanely strong forearms u really need a harness

I am from MN and get in at least 40 sessions a year windsurfing. San fran is decent stuff, but not nearly as good as The Gorge on the columbia river in OR/WA or even Cape Hatteras and South Padre when they are going off. Kiting is hella fun when you have a big launch site and friends to help you launch and land your kite. If you like to go by yourself your kinda screwed a lot of time. Yes self launching is done, but not easy to do. Windsurfing is also great for really high winds and huge chop, Kiting in those winds is really sketchy and you will rarely see on on the water.

I started windsurfing when I was 14 on some junky shit and loved it. Then i bought less junky stuff and overtime I ended up getting new top of the line stuff. I dont recommend getting new beginners gear as you will outgrow it in a season. Just buy 300-500 worth of gear from the mid 90s and pound the shit out of it. When you got it down. Spend the 1500 on some nicer stuff and a 130-150 liter board and go nuts. You will never regret getting into windsurfing. It is such a rush.

Oh and the freestyle scene is really taking off right now and the sail and board ranges are getting better so you can buy 3 or 4 sails and get the same wind range that 6-8 used to get you.

Windsurfing is one of those sports like skiing. Once you get good, (first time on a plane, first jibe etc), your in and your not getting out. I love it. That first clip you posted^ yay for kanaha and naish that was sick. Second ones were sick too. Check out www.continentseven.com and click on moves. Check out Ricardo he is ridiculous.

Also, I think the fuerte comp is still on www.high.tv. Ricardo is so consistent it makes me want to puke haha.
