Windows Vista?

I have the latest build of it.

Its really cool. When you put your mouse over the things at the bottom of the screen (differnt programs and stuff), it gives you a little real time preview window.

And you can hit a certain button, and everything you have open comes onto the screen (like F12 on OSX).

And the start button menu is now search-based, its way better.

And everything is prettier.

yup. right down to possibly needing certain monitors and everything. Personally, i see no reason to ditch XP for my own use. DRM doesnt bother ALL that much in principle, but in practice its just a bitch.

The one nice thing will be the increased xbox360 incorporation functions...it's going to come close to my current bizzle with XBMC.

me too, actually.

The DRM stuff built into Vista is going to be ridiculous.

It won't let you play or view even some stuff that is completely legally purchased. I mean, not all of it is that extreme, but its still there.

I was just talking about how pretty it is.

honestly, i switched over in february of last year, and, while it felt like kind of a novelity for a couple weeks with all the features, after maybe 20 days, you're pretty proficient in everything and it feels less like a toy and more like a serious professional tool. and in that year, i have not had one crash / system freeze. i can't complain about that.

its in beta testing right now so expect it to be about a year and half or so till its out for the general public it supposedly has 2 versions 32 and 64 bit the 64 bit has a 3d desktop environment and the 32 looks alot like mac osx like identical

Sucks Up Thy Ram.....blah...comp tooo slow.......I like xp better for windows, but i dont enjoy windows that much...

is it out already? and i heard it is supposed to fix the security problems they had before, so that they are good like macs? or something along those lines

Word is correct on this one! they still have security problems, if you want windows go xp, then instal a security center/virus scan. the vista is trying to be a mac but not succeding. they are incredably slow unless you have the largers ram/disc space you can find.

vista isnt as bad as i originally thought. it has a ton of features that are new and great. the sidebar(aka dashboard) sucks and i dont use it. You can make vista like xp and still have the features of vista .. the menus are nice and the folder navigation is great. I got mine through an HP pavilion. the only downside i think is gettin past all the dummy screens they have for idiots.

BOOO vista. its stupid. All it does is add some stupid useless features that have absolutely no impact on how your computer runs and won't help you any more than XP.

have you actually used it or just stated what you read in a magazine?

here are screenshots of it and the 'USELESS' features..
Alt Tab now has Screenshots:

being a graphic designer, and having used both vista and tiger.. id say they are very similar in file structuring and organization now. yes the sidebar eats up resources, but disable it. and the windows defender is nice.

I've heard it eat ram and makes computer run really slow.

Also, is it true that it interferes with pirating or the playback of pirated media?

i'm sure it eats ram like your dinasour! and yes it does prevent alot of pirated useage. Microsoft is dumb, like there mp3 player the zune, only works with the music you buy for it, and you cant use any music you already have. Atleast what i've heard from my friends who now wish they had gone with ipods.

One thing you have to remember, what's the point of having a program that doesn't use your ram? Most people have over 1gb of ram so windows might as well use it.

see i dont have issues with ram cause im runnin 4gb of ddr2 and a core2duo 2.0ghz.. the shit flys and im on vista.premium.. people bitch based on hearsay.. and for windows using it.. all that stuff can be disabled or lessened... most of these kids only know how to get on the internet, download a song or porn.. when it comes to actual knowledge... read up first. and you are correct on the "windows might as well use it"

so with vista if your download a song say thru limewire or something it wont let you is that what you mean by being a bitch with pirated media?

i never said it was new to Operating Systems.. just windows.. we all know they took from linux and apple. i actually like the vista expose over the osx one. and with hover captions its great. if you didnt notice by the screencaps... i have the object dock and use that primarily because im so use to osx. and its great that the windows os finally caught up
