whats sucks:

they try to make you use IE. but you can delete that from the get-go.

and all files transer from windows 7.

I recommed it everyone. and if you have a tablet its even more doper.
 
thats what i thought.

at first is was complicated as fuck!! but after a few minutes of tinkering and personalizing it became better. its kind of like the layout on your phone with all the different apps, but with your traditional desktop. also the cloud sharing is really neat
 
Am I going to need to re learn how to navigate windows? It's nice knowing it so well after all these years
 
no. the desktop is pretty much the same. its what they added that need to learn. but if you have a smart phone it should be pretty simple.

 
I was in on the Betas > RCs and then the RTM and am running it now. From a UI standpoint it's terrible. They need to figure out a way to meld "classic desktop" and the new tiled interface. From a stability point it has been pretty solid. Surface and Surface Pro seem interesting. We'll see how the end up competing in the overall tablet market.
 
Yes, the start menu is totally gone. Unless you separately make a desktop icon it is difficult to launch "desktop" apps from the desktop. This requires you to switch back to the "start screen" and launch from there or do a start from there.
 
I feel like I would still like to have win7 if I got a windows computer... we'll see how it pans out
 
yea definitely 7. 8 is bullshit for the sole reason that it's employing the 'walled garden' in this operating system. where software needs to be certified by Windows before you're allowed to install it. this is what I've heard anyways.
 
I agree with OP. It is sick. I am still discovering cool new tricks.

I haven't had much for incompatible stuff besides obvious things that will take time like some special drivers.

Being able to have all my social networks updates in a side panel thing is handy/neat.

The start menu is really different. very phone/tablet like

I feel like windows 8 is a really cool combination of the phone/tablet os and traditional windows.
 
Huge linux fan here. I just wish canonical didn't have the same vision for ubuntu as microsoft and apple have for windows and osx...

Also linux doesn't like my rMBP (yet).
 
Apple has been much more conservative in adopting iOS features in OSX as MS has with adopting tablet features in Win8. Tablet OSes work great on tablets but not on desktops/notebooks. The opposite is also true. Many Desktop UI features work great on that device but would never work on a tablet.
 
but if anyone is wondering. you CAN use a linux only computer for day to day life. I got through a year of university with no issues running just linux. If you are in science you have access to MORE software, and it's often free.

The only thing that sucked was trying to use it with an iphone. I am going to buy an andriod phone next for this reason alone.

I liked apple before switching to linux. my computer died before the ubuntu XPS 13, so I decided to buy another apple laptop. I bought the rMBP. It really is a KICKASS piece of hardware, but the OSX that I loved is no longer here.
 
Meh. It forces you to make a new account, where you don't have your original files and settings. In the administrator account where your originals are, you can't open metro apps
 
i don't use any of the features i gained from switching to windows eight, and my computer causes me way more problems than it did before. it freezes, it's slow, files don't work.

i can't say i'm happy with my choice to switch
 
I'm still using XP on my desktop, love it, so simple and fast. Only thing that might make me upgrade soon, is the fact that new games are supporting less and less XP.

Win8 seems weird at first, I would use it on a tablet or on a laptop with touchscreen, but on desktop it feels bit off. But I'd probably get used to it eventually.
