You mean the actual button placement right? Show desktop has been on windows since before 95.

I've been wanting to upgrade from xp for multiple reasons but I really don't like the look of vista. This doesn't seem to be much different.
 
Yeah. Whole desktop looks like its a Linux distro with some Windows icons.
I guess that would have been easier to say in the first place.
 
nope....

but the new way that the taskbar works is sort of like one, that you can "pin" programs in place, thus eliminating the quick launch bar.
 
i don't have a sidebar, you can pull everything off the sidebar just like in your first pic. and my taskbar is just as big. i have pretty much everything there except the new paint and wordpad, which i don't need either of anyways.

are you sure it isn't just a new skin for Vista? because creating a new OS just to upgrade Paint and make the buttons huge for people with poor eyesight seems like a waste of time and money.

things seem to have gone downhill since XP. i still prefer XP pro or MCE over Vista...and probably this new one unless they make it less noob-oriented like vista is.
 
i stopped caring about windows a long time ago, when i discovered linux. i don't pay a lot of attention to Microsoft anymore, first they failed me with the Xbox, the Xbox 360, Vista, the Surface, Zune, etc. I only use what i have to now, and that includes Vista because i'm really big on PC gaming and their games won't run on anything else.
 
want to know a skeleton in kyles closet? he once upon a time had mac running on BOTH of his PC's

then i found out it sucked. (And the I'm a pc ads pissed me off) and i promptly banished it from my hard drives
 
i doubt it uses less RAM, if it does, then it can't be much less. It's like Vista, but with MORE features and MORE useless-yet-visually-appealing aspects, i can't see how it could possibly run lighter unless they've already perfected Vista without telling us.
 
Well they debuted a copy of it on a 1ghz, 1gb ram netbook and it only took 1/2 the ram.

They would be commiting commercial suicide if they didnt create something lighter...brute computing power is out, convience is in.
 
question... My dads a homo who is afraid to let me do anything new to our computer... He thinks i willl blow it up or something. Right now i have just my user name set to look like a mac so he doesnt flip shits if it was on his. Is there anyway i could just install windows 7 for my log on account and no one elses. There are like 5 accounts on my pc.
 
is it gonna be called windows 7 for sure? cause windows mobile 7is just about to release, i dont see why theyd have the same name?
 
the beta version has actually been released. you can test it out, i think. its release date ranges from june09 to jan10
 
i think i'm going to stick with Vista for now, new OS's are always shaky for the first few months.
