Windells Winter Camp

Couldnt find a whole lot in the searchbar and it seems pretty sick. Less expensive and better snow than summer. Anyone ever been?

It's alright. From what I've heard from a buddy who went last year is that there is very few people and kind of boring. Weather can no cooperate as we'll. it's still early in the season for hood.

I would go for sure if I could afford it. I hear all the pros sell their stuff at the end of the session incredibly cheap.

i bet it wont be as crowded as the regualr summer camps. not too sure if many pros will be there if that is what you want

Meeting pros would be sick but not really expecting any in winter with comps and all. And also not too concerned about weather, Im from virginia so any snow is good snow.

From my experience, you basically aren't going to have a bad time going to any type of camp environment. Windells definitely has their shit together, so I doubt any product they have will suck.

You should go both in the winter and in the summer. :)

Full disclosure, Windells is a major advertiser of Newschoolers. So sure I'm a bit biased, but you can also know that by supporting them you're supporting someone that helps keep Newschoolers alive. ;)

After working at Windells both winter and summer for several years I can say the winters are awesome. At times I have even preferred them. There are less people so you pretty much have unrestrained access to everything and a closer relationship with all the staff and campers.

In regards to the weather yes it can be less favorable than the summer. It's mid winter in the northwest. Which means it will likely be over cast for part of the time. However since it is the winter and it snows A LOT in the northwest during the winter you are likely to get at least one powder day. The staff at Windells knows all the mountains very well and they can take you to places to ride untouched powder for just about any ability level. If your group is feeling up to it there are even places you can quickly and easily build jumps. It was always one of my favorite things to get kids out into the side country (at timberline you can go about 50 feet off the trail and find amazing gullies and canyons) and hit wind lips, natural hips and trannies, step downs, step ups, etc.

Besides the weather the primary aspect of summer camp that you don't get in the winter is access to the private park and Windell's private features. That being said Timberline has a sick park and since the camp is held mostly during the week there is hardly anyone there. You can hot lap the parks via the highspeed quad.

I highly suggest checking out the winter camps.

I would probably be looking for more powder/sidecountry stuff since there isnt really any of that in VA. Hows the vibe in winter? Ive heard that Windells summer camps have a lot of "im better than you". Would winter be different since its smaller?

Any time you put a bunch of teens in one place at a time with people they want to impress you're going to have that attitude. Ideally you shouldn't let it bother you but thats easier said than done. In the winter the vibe is much much more mellow. The kids that are coming to winter camp aren't really there for the whole "Windells pro coach summer bro down" scene. They're there because they want to go to a ski/snowboard camp and ride some sick stuff.
