Yo I just realized that I haven't seen any edits from windells this year and they are usually some of my favorites of the summer. I just scoured the internet and found nothing. Am I missing something? are they making a movie or something this year? Help me out plz!

PS sorry for the misleading title, just realized it looks like I'm posting windells edits but really im just looking for em

They hired filters to make minute long Instagram edits and ditched the whole weekly session videos bc they think Instagram is the only thing worth posting on nowadays, there was a thread on this topic awhile back.

Pretty whack move IMO, I can’t believe they bring on filmers to make insta edits lmao, not knocking the filmers/photographers at all but if I got brought on I would be super disappointed that I would just be making little insta ads rather than full length videos.

Nothing will beat last years media squad though. Dahlberg havey and goose KWTFGO when it comes to summer ski content. Owen’s full summer recap from last year is one of my favorite edits that has ever come out of mt hood.

They should have just posted all the clips on NS for edits and then just some clips on the gram but not all. But honestly they’re shifting their marketing strategy well because as we all know there is way more user flow on Instagram than Newschoolers

!!!!!

tbh pretty bummed about this summer being insta only, its understandable from their point since that's where the eyeballs are these days, but also them doing so doesn't help fix that "problem" either, and is further hurting the cause. I'd love to see an increase in high quality longer form content posted to NS like it was close to the 2011 peak, quality over quantity

fucking wack, no amount of insta clips will ever be as satisfying as the old windells edits. I used to get so hyped about those in the off season

damn yeah that sucks, so just no edits at all this year?

What I dislike about instagram is that you cant rewind or pause the video when you see something cool and wanna watch that part over and over again.

I like watching video on my computer = big screen

YO FUCK INSTAGRAM

*fuck video on instagram.

When it was photo only it was a great supplement, not stoked on the complete takeover reality we are at now with just a sea of forgettable iPhone clips. Its super wack and I feel like thats not an unpopular opinion, yet everyone wants to play the game and don’t want to acknowledge the issue

I mean the gram stuff has been sick but they also had two new filmers whereas they usually had a larger crew of filmers that usually seemed to focus on different pieces of filming camps stuff. I think everyone loved the full weekly edits but it gets difficult. The 4(ish) man teams that they usually have weren't there. Two people filming every day and being at camp when the campers are there to film makes it difficult for two people to sit down and pump out full 2 minute videos for 6 weeks straight. Its an all day job, if you look into it to it even says on their website that it is a difficult job. When they did have the larger former groups it was easier. The more the merrier I guess, still stoked on the stuff they put out.

You have an entire week to create a 2-3 minute edit filming with the best skiers in the world, as well as filming kids having fun, all you need is common knowledge of trick selection and good music taste and you got an edit. Doesn’t seem THAT hard to me, I’ve been editing videos for like 12 years now and I’m confident I could easily make a windells video in that time frame.

And im pretty sure it was only a two man team when Gavin Rudy was shooting with windells, I feel like it’s been a two man team for quite awhile now. Aiden Ulrich single handedly put out some of the most impressive photo for two summers at windells and his work (again not knocking anybody that was in hood this summer) was in a different league when it came to angles and the overall look of the photos he was snapping.

If anything i think making multiple smaller videos trying to cram everything into a minute long insta edit is harder than creating a full week long recap. That’s just me though.

I also could be wrong about everything I said about how many people were on their video team so my bad if I was mistaken

obviously it sucks but unfortunately thats the way it goes now. instagram videos get a shit ton more views than online edits do, and thats what the people calling the shots want for their business. quantity over quality. ive actually heard from other skiers who's sponsors have told them just to post anything, doesnt matter what it is as long as they post.

as for windells goes, i dont believe it was ever just a two man team. before havey it was nick broms filming with gavin. those guys all worked a lot with how much daily footage they got and had to make the edits during the in-betweens usually. that with being paid little to nothing, its hard to keep good employees around that want to keep doing it.

pretty sad, the old videos that jake strassman and crew made back in the day kept me coming to mt hood in the summer for the last 10 years

Someone mentioned a potential end of summer edit at least? I still think the session edit frequency is perfect. With all these lil insta updates unless you're glued to your phone you're missing a good chunk of the content. With a weekly edit you know it's coming and you can get excited for some bangers.

But I'll happily watch a recap edit and see what went down this summer too.
