Will Tom Wallisch compete in Winter X slopestyle this year?

^finally we someone speaks some sense...

don't get me wrong wallisch is a great park skier but let's have some perspective here:

1) PK Hunder is the best all around park skier at the moment. He has the best comp trick in the world right now (his late cork 10) which I'm sure could be taken even further on bigger jumps. As stated, he has 'all day long syndrome' where it's impossible for him to fall. I watched him for hours in London and the guy's a stomp-machine. He also has a killer rail game, not that that even matters because rails count for shit at X. He is the clear favourite. Copy and paste what i just said for Andreas Hatveit, although I doubt he will recover in time.

2) After those 2: Jacob Wester, Sammy Carlsson, Charles Gagnier, Jossi Wells, Colby James West and certainly not least Jon Olsson. These guys are on a different level. Sure there are others like Henrik who maybe have more talent but experience, consistency and 'name' all count so much at X that I'd still think anyone on that list would have a better chance...

3) I would love Candide to storm back onto the comp scene more than anything, particularly in pipe, but I think he's done with comps, more's the pity...

word it would be sick to see him throw down and hit a podium we'll see what happens i guess, it would also be sick if whoever was announcing called him a different name everytime he referred to him like "Timmy Wallnuts dropping in, oh shit Tommy Walmart with a sw cork 10!"

dude, those guys dont have shit on Tom people are stoked on him yeah but he still isn't done blowing up. Ski one lap with tom and you will see. He's consistent as fuck, like homies were saying, he did every trick there is on that windells jump and didnt fall . Dont think that just cause u don't see someone do shit in the movies that they can't do them, and I think the late/dub cork ten isn't as baller as sw dub cork 10 imo. I've see wallisch land all 4 tens with different grabs and multiple axises in one run. I've also seen him do both ways sw dub cork 10 which i believe is the most impressive thing done in the park. it's what pk did... but switch. wallisch is a bitch though.

word, and that one practice day at the NAO he learned a dub backflip, kang flip and switch dub flip. all first try. he has so much potential its out of control.

i heard from Chacha (reliable as it comes bitches) that Sammy Carlson was scheduled to win this years x-games... sorry to say i very highly doubt that either wallisch or henrik will be invited.

^PRETTY sure the bitch part was a joke given who it came from but anywho, I agree that by and large X-games invites are seemingly based on comp results but as previously mentioned pep and andy's inclusion in the past goes completely against that so it would seem that anything is possible. Furthermore while I was incredibly stoked to see Andy and Pep very unexpectedly involved I also recall feeling a sense that two other riders with much more to gain therefore got screwed out of a chance to compete so that two albeit all but immortally sick riders could throw down runs that were basically guaranteed to be insanely stylish but even more guaranteed to score horribly given the way comps are scored regardless of reputation. Although I really don't see it happening it would seem that given the INSANE hype around Wallisch right now and the fact that although relatively unproven in comps his film repertoire and ever growing bag of tricks simply cannot be ignored. I think at this point he must be at least considered for an X-games invite if only because whether he succeeds or fails it would be all but guaranteed to draw a lot of attention, or if you're an x-games exec guy, "viewers."

ok I'm pretty confused and more than a little freaked out that my post is before brodskis because that's what the first sentence is in reference to but I'm hoping it's simply some sort of East-West/Daylight Savings glitch and not that I briefly had the ability to see into the future and I botched the opportunity by posting on NS instead of looking into the stock market or something

thank you. all of that is true, and people need to get it in their heads. except the part about him being a bitch. he was super nice when we met him at windells, so humble. but anyways, the crazy thing is he is at the top of everyone elses game, but he still has so far to go. he has so much potential right now, and he is already crazy crazy good.

If anyone could compete this year, besides those who are already injured. It would be my call that the top 5 slopestyle would be, and not in any specific order:

PK Hunder

Jacob Wester

Tanner Hall

Tom Wallisch

Jossi Wells

For pipe top 5 I would say:

Justin Dorey

Jossi Wells

Tanner Hall

Simon Dumont

Mike Riddle

exactly what I was thinking..

Anyway, I think Tom would be a good choice for an invite for the X-games. Obiously ESPN is about the ratings and not the skiers. If the primary audience was skiers they would never get away with commentators using the term "560". Tom's skiing somehow manages to bridge the gaper-newschooler gap by appealing to both. For example, I have non-skier friends who borrow by DVDs to watch Tom's segments which they love even though they have no idea about skiing. With that in mind I think there would be people who would watch the X-games on TV because they know that "this one skier, he's all over youtube, he's like, real nasty" will be competing. He would attract viewers for sure, and as people have been saying he would have a good chance of a podium.

One downside would be the flood of "what bandana was tammy wearing at x" threads on NS.

his sw dub cork 10 at thredbo's big air was sick! If this kid was from the U.S he would've blown up 12 months ago. It'll take a bit longer but he's got the skills/style to be a stayer.

you've never seen andreas ski have you? the guy can litterlly do any trick he wants. right lip 270? no problem. 50-50 and urban? sure why not. right dub cork 10? stomped.

I hope tom gets in. I think the selection commitee really needs to look at the big picture this year, and select some new riders with a ton of potential. someone should make a petition or something

besides jon's original kang flip, tom's dub is one of the only one's i've actually liked....and as much as we complain, the judges at least claim that style factors into the overall score...and no

you cant complain about his huge right cork 9 at JOSS, he tweaked that nose grab to his face, lol, so sick.

im just saying, people really underestimate Andreas. my favorite doubles are PKs or Jossi's.

The X-games are dope and all and its great fun to watch. but who put these judges in charge? The whole spin to win factor is mad dumb. Its not about how big you can huck a trick its about how you make it look. Skiing is all about steez these days. I personally would rather see a layed back mute 3 with a stomped landing then a 10 with a sketchy landing. But I doubt its going to change for a while

Haha, never thought I'd hear something so blinkered on ns from someone that really should know better. You expect that kind of comment from 13 year old kids that are unaware of human life outside of Amurkah, but seriously...?

How could you possibly believe that 'those guys', the most decorated and proven slopestyle skiers in the world, 'don't have shit' on someone who has hardly any competition pedigree, apart from an Aspen Open silver, against a really-not-very-stacked field?

Let's see what happens when he competes against a decent field:

North American Open: 30th place

European Open: 8th place

USFSO: Not in top 14...

I'd say that speaks for itself. Great video park skier; still an unproven comp skier. End of debate, get of his dick.

u should read what i said... and what'd jon get in all of those comps I'm curious? And were u at all of those comps? quiet u

the judging for the aspen open was fucked. so many people were screwed. as for the NAO, he would have easily placed top 10 if he didn't come up short on the last jump doing his switch double due to the weather that everyone was having trouble with.

Ok so I reread your post and it is still missing the point completely. You can tell me how good Tom is all day long, you can even claim he has better tricks than PK Hunder if you like, absolutely none of which changes the fact that he still has to prove himself as a comp skier. How can you debate that?

To answer you're 'rhetorical'' question about Jon, NAO: 2nd, Euro: did not compete, USFSO: did not compete. Why are you questioning the pedigree of the most decorated jump skier of all time? How does that in anyway support your argument?

What are you lot smoking over there?

after reading the entire thread pretty much here are my two cents,

Tom Wallisch does have a chance of winning X, IF he is invited. Regardless, of what people will tell me about how good everyone else is I have never seen anyone in skiing stomp all 4 tens in a row like tom does, straight rediculous. I mean, think about it, how many truly amazing landings have you seen at X over the years? Tom could change all of that, and he has doubles which he stomps cleaner than almost anyone out there. THere is no doubt in my mind he has the potential.

PK and Andreas also seem to be favorites. One problem with Andreas is that he is HURT, and even if he recovers by X he won't be prepared so as much as I love that guys style, forget him (this year at least). PK on the other hand is also at a different level. His recent dub cork tens have been sick as hell. But once again, good luck winning with that trick considering Tom and Henrik can both do it switch and stomp it and as one person said, Tom can even do it UNATURAL! PK, Henrik, and Andreas are the only people TECHNICALLY comparable to Tom.

go ahead and flame me i truly could give a flying fuck, im just saying that is how i see this entire question.

WOW thats a terrible thing to say, like thats REALLY offensive and ignorant. that jump was a 145ft long step-down and he was one of the only ones with the guts to hit it. also he broke his back and now you try and rip on him and make a joke about it? just cause you want to jump on the henrik/wallisch bandwagon try to at least think before you post.

one question... why didnt tom compete in big comps what already were this year? like fs.ch, london... i mean only exps he cant be on top on X games... pk, jacob and andreas (ifs healthy) will own it..

I love PK's style but honestly I see Henrik taking X. Its like watching a video game watching him skiing around.

1.) Henrik Harlaut

2.) PK Hunder

3.) Sammy Carlson

Definitely could see Tom placing top 3 if he was invited but an X-games invite is a tough ticket.

Wallisch very very easily could have won Aspen Open. his run was really sick. both sw 10s, and from what I have heard, he should have done much better in European Open. He is a very good park skier, if not the best, he is damn close, and nobody can argue the fact he is one of the ones pushing park skiing right now.

Yes, results matter a lot in X-Games decisions, but they arent everything. Last year, if i remember correctly, Turpin got in with little or no results, i got lucky getting the last alternate spot almost no worthwhile results before X. sean decker had a 4th at 07 US Open, and Spriggs and Durtschi were in with no top 5's in major comps i think... somebody correct me if i am wrong. But the bottom line is he has some results, and its clear there has never been a larger following demanding somebody make it into X. I would say his chances are quite good. I would love to see him compete.

i thought, and still do think, that he was ripping on candide and so i gave my 2 cents. where'd you come to that conclusion?
