I know that when camping in Grizz country forest service rangers can fine you for leaving food out in a campground unattended but what if you led the bear to the food. My friend and I are building fence on a game range in Northern Montana and rather than leaving our house at 4 AM to work we are camping in a nearby forest service campground. There are posted signs that it is in grizzly country and we did find some nearby tracks. Our plan is to stache a large bag of candy bars on some nearby private land (not forest service jurisdiction) and draw a map from the campground to where the candy is hidden. We will put a candy bar on a bicycle. We will hide it far enough away that the bear wont want to walk there but ride the bike instead. We are pretty sure it will work since a bear stole our company 4 wheeler and drove it around for a while and left us with little gas. We are just worried about a potential fine. Anyone else have any experience with this?
