Will Park Skis Suck In The Powder?

I just ordered a pair of park skis because I plan on focusing on mostly park this year but I still wanna be able to hit some powder occasionally. Now i know that park skis arent going to kill it in powder or anything but are they at least acceptable and not just complete shit?

Last year...for every powder day i used my salomon thruster and they worked fine its just more work cuz they dont float.

yes they will suck compared to the giant skis, but if the people in the early days of skiing could ride 50 mm skis could do it then you could probably do it.

if people in the old days could use 50mm skis in the powder, then you could probably do it with 80mm skis

moment jibs,,, dead center... fine in pow.

its the skier not the ski. If youre worried about deeper snow, get a wider ski. ARV little wider, banger park ski.

It depends on the park ski. If it's the anthems it will do pretty well but if its the invader it wont do amazing. you'll still be able to ski powder no matter what ski you have though.

was just about to say that.

i've ridden my center mounted invaders in waist deep pow and it sucked, but it was waist deep pow so i really didnt care that my skis didnt perform top notch. for light pow skiing they'll be fine but you just gotta lean back a bit.

zach, i rode my invaders in the powder for all of last season. haha

its just way harder. but after like 2 pow days you wont even notice.

They won't float like a fatty ski, but skiing is skiing when it comes down to it and if you didn't own a fat ski before this then you shouldn't notice a difference. The more sidecut a ski has the more your tip wants to dive when you begin to initiate a turn in powder which is why a all mountain groomer ski sucks in powder. Park skis are midfats and typically have less side cut than a more traditional ski so the tips won't dive as much. If you are really worried about it don't mount your park skis center, mount them standard so you have more tip and that will give you more float. Hope this eases your mind a bit.

head mojos, dead center with 3 feet of fresh hardest thing i have done in my life

more than anything, i would say it depends on the flex, a softer ski will let you lean back more and get your tips out, but theyre still gonna blow monkey chunks

wait before anyone answeres.......where is the powder you will be skiing......because if its alta utah, your park skis are deffenately not going to work.

depends alot of people use volkl bridge for both and that works great. Anything 85 and under will not do the trick on those waist deep days unless you can find a 45 degree slope your not going very far

I have invaders for park and I rode those in powder a little, and they can ski it, but not half as well as my old back mounted PE's. You'll probably be able to make do and have fun, but you could be having a lot more fun on a different, more pow-specific ski.

haha word. ull notice a huuugee difference. i tried to ride my center mounted walls in powder last year n really had to work

Yes, it will be fun. If you have rocked fat skis in pow, then you might get frustrated, but I did'nt have fat skis until 3 years ago and shredded pow all the time just fine. Its more of a mindset thing. Like some people say, don't mount center and it will help prevent tip dive. but if you do, you'll just have to lean back. way back.

While I think you will be fine, you should think about getting something like the anthems, or kung fujas. though I used TNKs (centermount) for a few pow days this year, and they worked fine (it was only like 1 ft of night fresh at BOreal). They arn't hellbents though.

if your on the east coast don't worry about powder
you'll be too happy to care about your skis thats what always happens to me

Ya, its still fun if you like steering from the back seat. And eventually you'll learn some terrible habits, like sitting back when you ski...

it'll be like skiing straight skis in the 80's in the pow, they'll sink to the bottom and you'll have pow to your knees on every turn!

look at it two ways

powder will feel deeper

or

park skis suck in powder!

My par kskis are wider than my "fat" skis from 7 years ago. Things are just easier than they used to be because of equipment.
