Will my iMac G5 run final cut?

im rockin 2 gigs, but ram or (random access memory) really does not increse the speed of applications just how efficent they will run.

Computers use RAM to hold the program code and data during computation. A defining characteristic of RAM is that all memory locations can be accessed at almost the same speed. Most other technologies have inherent delays for reading a particular bit or byte.

Many types of RAM are volatile, which means that unlike some other forms of computer storage such as disk storage and tape storage, they lose all data when the computer is powered down. Modern RAM generally stores a bit of data as either a charge in a capacitor, as in dynamic RAM, or the state of a flip-flop, as in static RAM.

Software can "partition" a portion of a computer's RAM, allowing it to act as a much faster hard drive that is called a RAM disk. Unless the memory used is non-volatile, a RAM disk loses the stored data when the computer is shut down. However, volatile memory can retain its data when the computer is shut down if it has a separate power source, usually a battery.

Some types of RAM can detect or correct random faults called memory errors in the stored data, using RAM parity and error correcting codes.

please tell me you are joking. you dont even know what processor he has. how can you make that assumption. and ram never hurts. thats the golden rule of computers. that and Buy a Mac.

duurrrrr..... not so much. but alright. ill just speak from experience and say that my 1.8ghz is noticeably slower and harder to work with than my powermac and my dads 2.3ghz. it all makes a difference. if you wanna get frusterated sometimes then 1.8 is fine and ram doesnt matter as you said. but if you add a little ram it makes a lot of difference. referencing your initial lack of knowledge.

please continue to talk, im sure your some mac genius and you love to rub ipods up your cootch,  but final but will run fine on this kids g5 and that is that. i had 512mb of ram in my mb and then out 2 gigs in and the diffrence was there for instance of rendering and working with livetype and motion. but as far as running an application it will have no effect.

i dont own an ipod. thanks tho for thinking of my sexual well-being. your right it will run. it just wont run anywhere close to potential. as opposed to him having 2 gigs of ram. then hed be fine. all this stemmed from your stupid remark about ram. just admit you were wrong and it will all go away.

Ram will not effect how the programs runs, accept the shit that actually takes a lot of power (ie rendering, importing, exporting as i said) would go faster with more ram. But just running the program will be the same, dip shit.

you are on crack. any process on your computer uses ram. you can even go look and see how much ram each process uses. the more ram you have the more you can allocate to each process the faster it will run.
