Will my bindings be a problem?

When I returned back home from college break, I took my Salomon STH 16 and ON3P blue steeles to my local shop to get them mounted for the upcoming season.

I get a call from the shop saying that with my weight and skill, I am 150 and I put level III ability, the bindings would be too powerful even on the lowest setting (9) and I could get hurt. My current Kung Fujas are on 5.5 and they pop off fairly easily.

So my question is will these be a problem for me? Will they be so tight that I could get hurt if I ate it on a jump or rail? I always read on NS that people just crank up their bindings no matter what. Keep in mind that on 5.5 there was no chance off me hurting myself because a binding wouldn't release.

Gracias

Cranking up your din is SIMPLY stupid. Yeah if you don't care about breaking your knee, go for it, but if want to keep them intact, I rather have my skis to come off instead of twisting my knees.

Good point.

Also keep in mind that I ride medium sized jumps and rails so I don't go huge enough for a crazy wipeout that could result in me hurting myself.

you dont have to fall hard to jank your knee up. you just have to be really unlucky. my sister fell racing slalom, skis didnt release and got sorta tangled like what always seems to happen, poped here acl while trying to get up. hell, you can tear something just gettin out of bed goofy in the night.

You'll find it weird, but a 5 foot long small sized rail could be deadly for your knees if you land weirdly, or if the landing is shitty. You never know where you could get hurt.

I'm assuming you just bought them and didn't use them previously.
Dins are not something to mess with and I would not suggest going for it. I'm 5'10 and 155-166lbs and I'm on an 8 for park.

Well those were recommended for me by some people, because of how many releases I got at a din of 5.5. I'm around like 160 with all my gear so how tight are they with them at 9? Do they feel ridiculously tight and don't pop off.

I have a 29 in boot size whatever that translates into.

Also Solly SPK Kreation from last year if it matters.

your bsl would be a 327, at ur weight and the type of skiing ur doing id recommend selling ur bindings, and go for something that starts at a lower din setting, check out the sth 14 with the driver toe piece, im assuming u bought the sth 16 becuase of their driver toe, or the fact there is more metal in them.

Not for everyone. I would rather my ski not fall off on the lip of a jump or while skiing exposed terrain where falling could be a lot worse than blowing a knee

try selling your sths and get some 12 din bindings, most 12 din bindings have a lot of good features and will save you money and weight

Yeah... the larger your boot, the smaller your DIN. You should definitely get a lower DIN binding. I would recommend checking with your shop to see if they epoxied when they mounted them, ask them if the STH 14 DRIVER will remount without a redrill, then see if you can find a pair to trade for. If I had a pair, I would gladly trade you. It shouldn't be too hard.

You shouldn't, but you can remount slightly forward or back. Shoulda done your research before buying those bindings. If you're used to a 5.5, def go with a less burly binding.

youd rather release than stay hooked in most situations unless ur heli skiing and some big mountain shit. after you hit a rail and there is a 2 foot rut after it you could have the slightest tweak tht would mess the rest of ur season. you can fall anywhere anytime
